Serious question...

Is there a benefit of the vertical camera setup? Or is this just for sake of saving space along the top, on the inside?

I am very curious on how Phil will sell this - here are the two 'good' 7s models and then here is the 'best' iphone ever - iphone 8 (or edition or whatever)

It's the same design as that supposed dummy photographed in the pictures over the weekend. And that one looked pretty sexy. It was the love-child of an iPhone and an Apple Watch. Just like one past "analyst" predicted.

I think we're going to start seeing more rumours that the whole 3 or 4 new models thing was wrong, and there'll actually be no 7S, or there will be but it'll just be a spec bump and price drop, like the Apple Watch Series 1.

And check out that camera/speaker/sensor cluster at the top of the device! Interesting!

Hope that's the case instead of a fingerprint scanner at the back (!)

But man, would love to have one big mat sitting at my night table by my bed, plugged into my wall outlet, where I could just put down my phone, watch and whatever else I might want to chargeup so I could use it the next day. I assume it would also work for whatever else electronic gadgets, not just from Apple, as I have no idea how this technology works - if it just works, then I'll be happy

Blah vertical camera is ugly.

Yes, but an augmented reality live pass through of your environment won't work as well if both the cameras are on the horizontal as they'll both be on one side.

I think it's just a re-alignment of components to maximize the footprint. The camera sensor would now include a flash between the lenses so it's a smaller sensor to make room for more stuff. And if there's any wireless charging coils or circuitry, that changes the layout from previous phones too. Add the possibility of removing bezels and integrating the Touch ID into the screen would radically change the layout too. It's hard to even compare this rumor to any previous iPhone layouts.

The "proper" way of taking photos and recording video, especially for AR and VR, is by holding the phone horizontally. The cameras may have been designed this way for practical, horizontal usage.
That doesn't make sense. I use both cameras on my 7+ for portrait mode and hold the phone in both landscape and portrait orientations. Same effect either way.

I'm betting Apple will sell the charging mat separately as an accessory. It's much cheaper just to include a cheap cable and you buy the mat if want it.

I don't fully understand what you mean, and also augmented reality is a bit of a fad, nothing useful at the moment, and probably never will be. Just like VR. Now I do think AR is more useful than VR but still. Nothing worth making an ugly phone over.

Why do you keep saying small 4mm bezel? That's hardly any smaller than the side bezels are on the current models.

Because they're talking about overall bezels and the bottom and top ones at the moment are ginormous.
