How would you charge the Apple pencil with this iPad design? Or are we talking about it supporting the outdated Apple pencil?

Seems like a missed opportunity with the mini... Would love one with updated design and specs for a reasonable price... A pretty good travel companion for both my days on the road with work and in planes etc.

They're not going to cannibalize the iPad Pros. You don't put newest designs and latest tech in cheaper models. It's like cars; there's a trickle-down effect that takes place after a while. Everything from the flagships gets moved down after a while.

Well the Apple pencil is giant and just don’t suit iPad Mini,if it was a miniature sized stylus (like S Pen on Samsung Note phones) then yes but current pencil is just too big to comfortably write on such small screen.

What are you even on about?? People use normal sized pens to write in tiny notebooks. There aren't pens better suited to a4 or a5 because of their size. Sigh.

If its just a spec bump then why even update it after all these years?
Why, so that you and others can bib-dribble that it's *not* been updated in all these years and how Apple has totally abandoned [insert assumed market group here] and that it's nothing more than a money grab.

That's why.

XR vs XS vs XS Max. 319 iPad vs the 10.5" Pro. The thing you're saying doesn't happen, happens often with Apple.

Nah, I think it's because you so maturely used the phrase bib-dribble to describe someone. Want to turn the mirror back on yourself? Your passion comes from falling HARD for Apple's marketing. If you can't respond without unkind name calling, don't respond at all.

when I look at MacBook, it seems if you want Power and Option you need to get the 15", you can't get a real graphic card in a 13". iPad start to be the same, larger screen get all the option and the small one are just there to show a low price item, and to attract you the the more expensive and more interesting model.
But I will buy the iPad mini 5 because I love the size even with if the put an outdated CPU in it.

Would you pay $599-699 for it?.

Maybe, but I certainly would never pay $599-699 for a big, heavy iPad Pro.

and to attract you the the more expensive and more interesting model.

Exactly. But what they don't get is that for many people the large model is not interesting at all. Not because it is more expensive, but because it's simply too large and too heavy. iPhone XS Max (even XS), iPad Pro, MacBook 15... it's all the same. And then they offer smaller low-budget models lacking many features such as Pencil support, with bad CPU and graphics and they'll go like "See? We told you there's no market!"

I'd love an updated iPad Mini regardless of whether it is just a simple specs bump or an entirely new design. However I do agree that if they plan to keep it low cost it is unlikely that they'll include FaceID or an edge-to-edge display.

I could however see them using a "liquid retina" display like the XR currently has -- it just wouldn't be edge-to-edge.

do you even have an Apple Pencil and have you forgotten the size of normal pens or the iPad mini?
when people write in tiny notebooks they usually use smaller pens.
even compared to standard full size pens, the Apple Pencil is large and long.

Personally the only time I use a tiny writing utensil is when I play mini golf. Otherwise, it’s full size, regardless of the size of the paper.

I guess it’s too much to hope for an ipad mini pro design....but The previous ipad Mini has one of the best screens of any iPad. Seems kinda weird to go backwards and give it a worse screen.

New iPod Touch & iPad mini... spec bump for future IOSs... A8 --->A12?

Would like 4.7" - 5.5" choices for Touch... larger batteries.

This is really good new actually. Because if the iPad mini isn't getting any thicker, that means it gets to keep it's laminated display. Possibly even a slightly improved panel.

Also that increases the chance that the new "standard-size" low end iPad, supposedly 10-something inch, will have a laminated display and a thin chassis as well.

And the more I think about it, the A11 chip increasingly seems like the obvious choice for new iPad mini, iPad and iPod touch all the same. Possibly a 7nm die shrink.

A spec-bump mac mini would be ideal. But why does it take them 3 years to do a spec bump? That's what's pathetic.

Not really. Increase the screen size a bit, but keep the total size or even trim down.. you know, without bezels.

It's not worth the R&D expense for Apple. The Mini has to remain inexpensive to be worthwhile, and I think that most of the people interested in the Mini are perfectly fine with the form, they just want it equipped with a processor that's not 4.5 years old.

This makes sense in light of the 9.7" iPad (2018). Just put that or a newer A-chip in there, maybe with pencil support and it's good to go. And, given other more recent redesigns, maybe that is a blessing.

As for cost, I don't see why it wouldn't be priced the same as the 9.7" model. It's a great price-point, just pick your size preference. Those two models could actually be locked together in terms of hardware specs... ie: just iPad, comes in either 7.9" or 9.7".

Agreed. But again, 3 years to swap to new CPU? They let it age out to 4.5 years old. Timmy could not care less about Apple products.

Match the 9.7" 2019 iPad in specs and price and just let me choose the smaller screen size. I'll be there cash-in-hand.

Just like the iPad Air and mini 2 were matched when introduced. I remember going back and forth at the Apple Store and deciding on the mini 2. The air and mini 2 were $100 difference in price for the same storage tiers.
