If they have silicone ear tips, I'm not buying them. Simple as.

I shall take advantage of the Gen 2 fire sale when it comes, and stock up. I simply can't stand silicone ear-tipped earphones.
That’s interesting. I have the Pro too but I totally get what you mean. I like the AirPods Pro and the noise cancelling, but love to switch to the standard AirPods, I like that I forget they are there and use them when I really don’t want noise cancelling. It would be a shame to merge the two form factors unless....they keep the current AirPods design too so there is AirPods Pro, AirPods “silicone” and AirPods classic....at a much lower price 👍🏻

My favorite thing about my AirPods is that they do not go into the ear canal. It was the number one reason I chose them over all others and why I didn't even think about getting the Pro model.
My reason for sticking with the original design. I have a hard time with the pros for this reason no matter the size swaps. I gave the pros a few weeks, my ears just don't go well with this design. Bummer.

I don’t understand how the people who can’t handle “in ear” but love the “on ear” of the original AirPods. Hey I got news for you. They are about 98% the same.

AirPods fit seems to differ wildly between people. I have tried both and found original design fits and sits perfectly. I have the pros now and they are a pain in the ass and never stay in my ears. I've tried all the tips as well.

I was going to take them back but the place I bought them from didn't have a returns policy. Wont be shopping from them again.

Everyone buying AirPods knows they are picking a model without silicon tips. Many of them, deliberately. Why the hell would they walk back on that? I'm sure that's wrong.

Plus, the actual features of the AirPods Pro (Noise Canceling, Transparency) go hand in hand with silicon tips. A version of those without those features makes absolutely no sense.

Hmm, I'm surprised if they're removing all seal-less designs from the lineup if this is true. I figured it would be in a shape like the Airpods Pro, but lack the silicon seals, because some people just don't prefer them.

The one thing i like about my current AirPods is the lack of touch controls.
The thing i hate about my Sony headphones is the touch controls that make me want to violently throw them against a wall whenever i accidentally touch them
God i hate touch controls on headphones. Ill stick with the old airpods for now.
I also prefer the taps of the current ones, when biking or running it's much easier to just tap your ear rather than a more precise gesture like the squeeze.

I developed allergic reaction to silicone tips from using the Pro. Hope they still make one without it in the future.

Those things would pop out of my ears. That shape airpod or the old wired air buds would never stay in my ears. Maybe i have freak ears. 👂 I dunno. 🤷‍♂️ But they’re definitely not compatible with Apple airpods.
Logged in just to say that I am exactly like you! We be freaks! 🙌🏼

One goes inside the ear canal, the other doesn't. What is hard to understand about that? Hey I got news for you. That's a lot more than a 2% difference. It is significant.

LOSS OF TAP CONTROLS = TOTAL FAIL !!

If the rumor is true and Tap Controls are killed off, it will be the biggest APPLE FAIL (prob the biggest tech fail) of all time. Anyone that's ever tried to change songs (with the Air Pod Pros) wearing gloves, mittens, hats, hoodies, helmets, tangled in a covid mask, etc, etc, all the above, or even just with their hands full, understands why Tap Controls are the AirPods singular best feature. I've literally paused a song by tapping my head with a thermos... through a hoodie, under a hat, wearing mittens while holding groceries and a toddler (AirPods Pros fail at thermos). Apple needs only spend a day outside Cupertino, anywhere cold, to see how vital Tap Controls are to the AirPods.

The Pros don’t work well for me. I tried, even ordering expensive foam ones. My left ear AirPod Pro would slowly creep outwards and by 5 mins pop right out. I gave up when I almost lost one on a bus. Returned. No issues with the non pro AirPods so if Apple were to create them with a pro like design I’ll have to pass.

Completely agreed, despite having the Pros I still find the normal version much better for everyday use. Only reason I kept the Pros is the fact that I travel by public transport a lot on a daily basis (well, not the past year...) and the noise canceling is a lifesaver for those purposes.

Eh, those silicon eartips always slip out of my ears at whatever size. I’ll keep my 1st & 2nd generation AirPods & my APM thanks! (Which all stay in or over my ears just fine!

A new image claims to offer our first real world look at Apple's next-generation AirPods. The image, shared by 52audio, showcases both AirPods and the charging case for what the site claims to be the third iteration of the wireless earbuds.

52audio has in the past shared images claiming to showcase different parts of the third-generation AirPods. Most notably, the site in November shared an x-ray image claiming to be the new AirPods, however, it was later proven to be faked and simply a compressed x-ray image of the current-generation AirPods Pro.

The image shared today, however, is in line with what we know so far about the third-gen AirPods. Bloomberg has reported that the new AirPods will take design cues from the AirPods Pro by having a smaller stem and silicone eartips, but they will reportedly lack high-end features such as Active Noise Cancelation.

According to 52audio and a provided caption of the leaked image, the new AirPods will feature a pressure-relieving system, the same technology featured in the AirPods Pro. The system is meant to equalize pressure within your ear to remove any discomfort from using the AirPods for a prolonged period of time. Based on the image, the charging case will be less rectangular than the case that comes with the AirPods Pro, and more in keeping with the original AirPods case, but with the addition of an LED charging indicator on the front.

The third-generation AirPods may also be borrowing touch controls from the AirPods Pro. According to accompanying 3D renders from 52audio, each new earbud will feature touch control surfaces, instead of the single and double-tap controls on the current AirPods (first and second generation).

The new AirPods are expected to offer the same five hours of continuous audio playback as the second-generation AirPods, according to the latest report. This differs from details provided earlier by Bloomberg, however, which claims that Apple is looking to improve battery life on the new model beyond the current five hours of audio playback. Additionally, the new report claims that Spatial Audio support, a feature currently exclusive to the AirPods Pro, is "highly" probable for the new AirPods.

Apple analysts Ming-Chi Kuo said in November that mass production for the new AirPods will take place in the first half of the year. According to 52audio, the new AirPods are set to debut at the beginning of March. This week, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman poured cold water on speculation that Apple will hold an event on March 16. He did however leave the door open for an event on another date in March.

Leaker Jon Prosser, who has a mixed-track record when it comes to reporting on Apple's plans, recently reported that an event on March 16 (now unlikely) will headline AirTags and new iPads. Apple released the AirPods Pro via a press release in 2019, so it remains to be seen how and when Apple will release the next-generation AirPods.

How can you tell they are not airpods pro ?

Hopefully these actually sound good. I can’t buy these with the sound quality they have. I’ll stick to my Sony in ears till apple can make something sound like it’s not 20$

Some people cannot handle the pressure that a fully sealed earbud puts on their ear canal. Others do not like being cut-off from the outside environment.

I guess contact lenses and glasses are 99% the same as well ?
