Clearly this was taken on the sofa in Tim Cook's residence. No way this is the real thing...

Looks pretty legit. I'm fairly confident this is the new dock connector. Although I can see it being useful for charging I don't really use the cable for syncing anymore since the iTunes Wifi sync options became available.

Wi-fi sync doesn't always work though, at least not for me.

I just hope that they've upgraded the cable so that it can handle more power. The iPad 3 desperately needs a more powerful charger - it has a 20% bigger battery than the 11" MacBook Air yet a charger that can provide only 20% of the power that the MBA's can. As such it takes forever to charge.

I dont like the long white part after the adapter. Kinda like how it was on the older ipod cables before they slimmed it down. they should of slimmed this one down to start since thats kind of the whole reason for the new adapter.

Its a connector LOL. I actually prefer the old style 30-pin dock connector to the newer version since you could push in the little clips at the side. Over time the new ones scratch around the edge of the port, because they can't be pushed in.

I'm not too thrilled with all those exposed contacts. I know the power is negligible and no one is going to get shocked by grabbing them but it seems they'll just gather fingerprint oil, dust, etc., and then deposit it into your new iPhone.

Although I can see it being useful for charging I don't really use the cable for syncing anymore since the iTunes Wifi sync options became available. If maybe they'd have been able to incorporate a thunderbolt interface, I know thats sorta impossible since thunderbolt and USB are not compatible, but it would have been blazing fast.

I'm so used to using the cable/dock that after almost 10 years I'm still doing it out of habit even with Wi-Fi sync being available now. I have to actually remember "Hey, I don't need the cable!"

It would be great if the new small dock connector would snap into the iPhone like the magsafe! :D

Why are leaked photos always a tad blurry with poor lighting? It's like people take the photos with an old Nokia flip phone. Just something I've always wondered.

I'm so excited! I'm liking the smaller for factor.

looks smaller.

interesting.

While smaller in some aspects, it seems longer on what goes in the iPhone.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't recall ever seeing this many possible leaks ahead of a product launch before...

I agree. I'll putting on my Jerry Fletcher hat, I am starting to wonder if this is all, to paraphrase Ducard/Bane "Theatrics and Deception" to really wow us on 9/12!

I wonder if this will be a USB 3.0 connector or if Apple will continue to stick with 2.0?

I would think moving to USB 3.0 would be the obvious choice as Apple has begun putting it in their computers.

I'm pretty sure the title should read: Photo of Alleged Smaller Dock Connector USB Cable Surfaces, because I don't think whether or not it is a photo the question.

Smaller sync cable = more room for a battery in the nano. Going to need that for all the crazy "apps" that will be available for it. You think they only app is a watch?! ;)

You know, that's a good point about the nano. Personally I could never see Apple saving enough internal space in the ipad/iphone to make a painful dock transition worthwhile, but it would be significant in the nano (or even a revamped shuffle). Interesting.

Wi-fi sync doesn't always work though, at least not for me.

It works fine with me. two iPhone 4S's, iPad 2 and a First Gen iPad all work fine syncing to my MacBook Pro's iTunes. Although I can't comment on music syncing since I dont sync that anymore, since being able to get a 50% discount on spotify with me being at Uni, which works on all devices saves a tonne of space.

Carrier Wars

man I want this iphone so bad! But i am still unclear as to which carrier to get it for!

We should probably start a different thread for this, but I am seriously considering going with Virgin Mobile if they get the iPhone 5.

It's just such a better deal.
