My three wishes about the new cable
The new cable is similar to the MagSafe connector,
The new cable is longer, and
Apple offers additional cables at a decent price point. It'd be a pain to have to shell out $20 a pop for extra cables.

If the cable is an active cable with chips, I wonder how long it will be until 3rd parties can make them cheap.

It would be great if the new small dock connector would snap into the iPhone like the magsafe! :D

What would be the need? The magsafe is designed to stop a laptop going flying if someone trips over the relatively long cable. If the iPhone had that it would still go flying off the desk regardless with it being such a light device.

Its a connector LOL. I actually prefer the old style 30-pin dock connector to the newer version since you could push in the little clips at the side. Over time the new ones scratch around the edge of the port, because they can't be pushed in.

lol i understand that but when i see that cable i immediately thing of modding or mounting. and the old ipod cables/3rd party ipod cables with the HUGE connector was a pain in the neck to mount in say a car or something. so it would be nice to see apple keep it lean and mean from the beginning.

I dont like the long white part after the adapter. Kinda like how it was on the older ipod cables before they slimmed it down. they should of slimmed this one down to start since thats kind of the whole reason for the new adapter.

I think that is probably done to give the plug strength, so that Dock Manufacturers can use it to support the weight of the phone...

I think it would be cool if the new connector was universal and went in both right side up and upside down. It's just a nice touch not to have to even think about if you're plugging it in the right way up.

I'm glad they are finally dropping the worst connector design in history.

Seriously, can we buy these part leakers nicer cameras and some photography lessons?

Because pulling out a giant Canon with a macro lens and getting the lighting JUST so, adjusting your aperture and ISO settings while pulling a part off the line in a production facility would probably cause a little suspicion, yes?

Apple may make the best looking phones but they still make crappy cables. All my cables have deteriorated at the base! :(

Wi-fi sync doesn't always work though, at least not for me.

Same here. Do you find it a PitA to get it to re-establish itself once it gets in one of it's moods where it just won't sync? I will say, on my new iPad, I rarely ever have an issue, and when I do, it is easily resolved. My iPad 1 is a pain, but my iPhone 4 is downright evil, it seems, when it gets in that mood.

With every other phone out there using micro USB as well as all that Euro political stuff pushing that as standard i don't get why they don't just use that if they're gonna screw all their legacy add ons by switching the dock connecter anyway:mad:

It stinks that I'm stuck in the middle of a Family SharePlan on Verizon with my Grandfather, that I want to get out of, but doesn't end until October. So, I can't pre-order it. However, as soon as I get it, I'm going with Straight Talk (AT&T MVNO). Any way I can buy an AT&T subsidized iPhone from Apple for $199, and just sick my ST SIM in it, without buying it unlocked? I should be able to buy an AT&T iPhone for $199. ST is an AT&T MVNO, after all.

What parts haven't been released already? Are we going to see the new box for the iphone next????

I'm glad they are finally dropping the worst connector design in history.

That connector lasted for almost 10 years, and had EVERYTHING that you would need coming out of it, (USB, serial, component video, composite video, line-in, line-out, etc), and has only just now become the limiting factor in device size.

Seems like a pretty amazing connector to me.

+1. This doesn't look like MicroUSB. Can't they just use that instead of a different proprietary connector?

I just noticed something that's going to suck.

The current dock connector is sturdy and strong enough to hold the phone up in a dock. This means you can use your phone in any dock, even without having to use dock adapters or similar.

The new one doesn't look strong enough for this. This either means dock adapters are going to become mandatory, or accessory makers are going to have to make universal docks.

Not looking forward to that.

What a stupid looking plug... Seriously... Those contacts being exposed like that are gonna be scratched, scuffed, whathaveyou... And it'll be so easy to just be touching something and short out...

Don't forget FireWire. <sniff>
