Seriously?

Don't mean to be harsh... I'm just extra careful with stuff I pay a lot of money for. I just don't get people talking about their own mistake. You bought it, you dropped it and it broke. Sucks to be you.

DISCLAIMER: I'm a clutz when it comes to crap I don't care about... I'm 10000000000% careful with something I love.

I think it's a bit unfair to call a piece of high end electronics "extremely fragile" because it cracked when dropped onto a hard surface from (I assume) a few feet up... The iPhone is not a ruggedised device like a tough-book or something, and has never been sold as such.

It seems like reversing a nice new car into a post and then complaining that the bumpers are extremely fragile because they cracked or scratched.

That said, sucks for you - must be gutting to break a shiny new toy within hours of getting it. Reminds me of when I totally wrote off an rc plane within seconds of the first take off due to reversed ailerons that I had missed on the preflight - one moment of inattention, big dent in wallet!

i got a rubber case today. i've dropped my 3G about a dozen times, most of the time on hard concrete. 3G still looks great due to a hard case and screen protector.

I think a pic would be good to see... Also how did the phone hit? Directly on a corner? How far up the glass did it go?

He dropped his camera.
bwuahahahahahahahah funny stuff.

Yeah.... saying something is extremely fragile when you were so blatantly negligent with your brand new $600 device is a joke. I saw iFixit drop a phone a few times onto asphalt with it only breaking on the 4th drop when the video poster manipulated it to drop right on a corner.... guess what, it will crack if it's abused, surprise!

It is a phone made of glass. Dropping it from a distance onto tile is abuse, not normal wear and tear.

This reminds me of last year's Day 1 video posted of some dude shooting the parking lot, then steps out of the trolley and it falls to the ground...

Almost simultaneously you here *BANG* "Oh, S**T!"

This is exactly what the Purchase Protection Plan is for. File a claim (calling is faster than online) and take that money to Apple. Repair on a "totaled" phone is usually $200.

Why does everyone want pics of a broken phone? LOL! Are you really that insecure (small in the pants) that you need proof that the phone can be damaged? Who cares? Dude dropped his phone and it broke. What else needs to be said? I have my iPhone 4 in a case. I'm not taking any chances.

I'll be carrying mine in a homemade case (duct tape wrapped completely around a fiber cloth lol) until I get my bumper and Wrapsol skin

Humor is lost on you, isn't it?

The back plate is extremely easy to replace. Apple is looking real smart for not putting the size on the back plate now. I bet they offer replacements for a small fee.

pics or it didnt happen...

lmao i love it when people say that to everything, why would someone lie about breaking his iphone 4 back on tile and then ask for help on how to go about getting it fixed with protection plans??

You're still going to shell out at least 400 bucks though... You don't think Amex is going to cover the price to buy a full priced phone do you?
Why would he buy a full-priced phone from AT&T when he can take the cracked phone to the Genius Bar and get it replaced for $199?

Hey OP, it all depends on the your phone hits. Engadget saw an iPhone 4 thrown at the wall, and it didn't break. David Pogue dropped his iPhone 4 five feet, from the top of a car down to concrete. It didn't break, much less scratch.
