If the 13" Macbook has a smaller bezel and footprint than the current one, I might finally replace my 867MHz 12" PowerBook that's still going strong!

Those 12"-inchers are fantastic machines, imo. If the 13" MB is a modern day version, I'll be a very happy camper.

the wall behind the apple boy is beige and behind the laptop is white....

the iSight must be changed....just found the first failed part of the new !!!!!:p

It does not have to be HDMI. It could just be Optical, COAX, or RCA. You can also use an adapter to connect audio to a DVI to HDMI cable, plus Apple likes to come up with new things, so maybe they will have a special connector for audio. Also, optical and SPDIF can handle 7.1 and higher sound systems.

TEG

Sorry, but that's not true. Only HDMi 1.3 and above spec can handle audio bitstream or decoded 7.1. Optical digital and SPDIF can only handle 6 channel PCM, DD5.1 or DTS5.1 multichannel audio, not Dolby True, DTS-HD Master Audio or 8 channel PCM.

Unless Apple manage to put 8 analogue PCM out sockets, there's no way to get these new HD audio standards out to a receiver / amp.

looks pretty realistic to me...only a few weeks to go till we find out for sure.

Allow me to debunk that photo..Being into photography.

Look at the shot. It shows what's supposed to be an Apple employee taking the shot of the MB via Photo Booth. It shows the person.

Now please look at the angle of the iPhone being used. It's a semi angled down view of the Mac.

Now the photo itself.

The ( sic ) photo shows the MB straight on. No angle.

Had the photo taken by the iPhone been this photo. Which the "photo" is trying to convey it would have been at an angle not straight on.

Look at it again then think about it.

Surely they'll fit on the brick, along with the optical drive, glass touchpad, USB hub, scroll keys, and laser-etched apple-logoed fruit bowl.

As much as I hate to admit it, I think this might actually be real for once.

All the rumors which have been circulating are part of this picture, and not like other photoshopped ones where it's the faker's own wishful thinking projected:

1. Rounded corners similar to MacBook Air
2. Glass trackpad for faster application openings and more screen space
3. iMac inspired display casing
4. Black keyboard design

I think this might be real guys. And yes it's perfectly natural to reject changes such as this, we are humans after all!!

Sounds like they mean it goes down to one FW port; at least I hope they retain 2 FW ports on the 17 inch. At the moment I use an external drive on the 800, and Apogee Duet on the other, both bus powered. It will be annoying if this set up cannot be done on the new model.

On the plus side, if the machines are 15" and 17", hopefully this suggests 16:10 so at least I don't lose 10% of my pixels compared to the current hi-res model.

Apes

How does eliminating the USB 400 port reduce the footprint?

Ok I don't want to try to be an expert on the topic but I'm in Advanced Placement Environmental Science at my high school and I'm just going to have to say products that reducing the foot print would be from making less materials used thus this means less used less materials consumed and less materials recycled.

SOoooo because probably 1/10,000 of these ports are ever used why put them on there?

why i see this being kinda dumb... they should incude a free mini AVI adapter on ALL NOTEBOOKS WITH MINI AVI. I hate how I have to buy another part and spend $30 just to use it with a normal screen. I see most windows graphics companies doing this and there customers will now only buy from them just because.

this make sence to anyone else?

Plenty of room! :D

They weren't kidding when they codenamed it "brick".

can someone confirm whether or not you can boot off an external drive using FW800?

the thing about the MBA is it has no FW ports at all, so you can't boot off an external drive.

why would you want to do this, you may ask? for troubleshooting purposes. if your laptop's hd crashes, you can boot if off an external drive via FW.

AFAIK, you can't do it via USB.

IDK if FW800 works.

Every Intel Mac can be booted via USB.

I'm using my Macbook's hard drive to boot my Mac mini via USB as we speak. I'm doing this because my Macbook is in repair (again!) since 3 weeks now and I want to continue using the same system. The only downside is the response time (slower than when connected internally) and Time Machine won't let you use the same backup tree because it's not the same Mac you made the backups on.

Damn You Jobs!!!! Damn You!!

I am hoping for a black anodized model option. I am so sick of silver. It looks like cheap Walmart C%&P!

Word. If the only change is that they're all silver (with no price drop) with some speed bumps I'll just end up buying a prev. gen. on sale or used.

I have a question for anyone who might be able to help though: Does Apple allow you to ship part of your order to one address and part of it to another one? Like if you're buying a "gift"? I want the $250 deal on CS4 but I'd have to buy a new Mac to get it, so I'd find someone who wants to buy a laptop and they'd get $100 off, but without the gift-shipping it would be almost impossible to do I think.

Um. The "footprint" reference was to the amount of SPACE the unit takes up. Nothing to do with carbon or the FEWER materials used / recycled / shoved up our collective banana receptacle.

A.P.E.S. indeed.

See above.

Please, PLEASE let there be a 14" or 15" MB. Not the MBP, just the normal MB.

+1

I personally value vertical space - it means I hunch less. As well as meaning you don't have to scroll as much. I want to use my new MB as my sole computer, so I'd welcome a bigger screen but can't afford the Pro.

I also play a lot of DVDs, and burn them too, just to add my voice to the debate. That's what comes of being a student with no other screen.

Hurry up Apple and just release them already! I have to admit, when I woke up and saw part of the thread title I got a bit excited because I thought the other part was going to be released

I have to admit, sometimes when I wake up I discover I'm completely excited and have to release "the other part" . . .

I hope they're building up stock of the new MBs and MBPs so they'll have lots on hand at all the stores (and other retailers) when they go on sale in 3 1/2 weeks.

I'll take one (MBP) with everything. :)

FWIW. My friend delivers to ingram micro. Including today they have been receiving skids via UPS & FedEx freight of laptops. Ingram then supplies apple stores usually a day or 2 prerelease based on apple's direction. Maybe they are the current generation laptops but you'd have to doubt it if updates are as imminent as they sound. Again just for what it's worth.

:D, sweet... please do keep us updated.
