Everyone on here is so hung up on Apple ditching the optical drives and ports on the new notebooks

Not me. All I ask is either (1) Apple brings out an updated Mini before I retire (that gives them roughly 29 years); or, failing that, (2) Apple brings out a MacBook that tastes like a banana.

That's all.

Design I agree. It's good.
OS X? well I found it extremely 'narrow minded' so had to move to 64Bit Win system to run apps that I need.
Reliability... Sweet. You must be lucky then. My iMac had a Logic Board replaced already and a screen.
My macbook was in repair for 10 days and my Pro simply died.

Sorry man. Apple is gonna fall. you'll see. They are as fake as US economy now. Pure marketing.

Fully agree about the US economy, which is little more than a bunch of green papers with freemasonry signs on'em...but if you were a bit of an old skool user, you'd know that Apple has ALREADY passed through the dark ages...1996 anyone?

As for reliability, your anecdotal bad luck doesn't mean anything; just check the stats and you'll see that Apple comes out on top in pretty much every reliability and support aspect...and it has been like this for several years already.

My Gf's Dull laptop just died, so I told her to wait for the new MBs...all my other friends who just bought Macs could NOT be happier...and they will never return to PCland...after all, they have seen the light.

Good! A second FW800 port, just what I need if eSATA aint catching on (which it shouldn't really, connections are **** poor).

Oh and ditching the drive in the MBP is the stupidest idea I have ever heard :/

All I can say is PLEASE NO don't put only glossy glass screens on these devices. If they are glossy only MBP's people just will not buy them.

Spot on glossy displays suck!!!, I hate those displays. The colors are all screwy, and there is no way of accurately calibrating them.

Butt ugly

Usability nightmare (so, when actually does the Dock hide and when is it on, just to ask)

I so hope that this is not true.

Rest assured it is a fake.. It is suspiciously fuzzy in the lid gap but also has a fishy angle in the bottom left.

If it's going to have Blu Ray, it has to have HDMI. While you may get HDCP out of DVI and DisplayPort, they don't output any audio, of any sort. Digital optical or coax don't output any of the new HD audio formats (compressed or uncompressed), so the only early to support Blu Ray is with HDMI.... Or WHDI (Wireless High Definition Interface). Ok, I'll admit that's a long shot, but it would be so cool, and so Apple.

It does not have to be HDMI. It could just be Optical, COAX, or RCA. You can also use an adapter to connect audio to a DVI to HDMI cable, plus Apple likes to come up with new things, so maybe they will have a special connector for audio. Also, optical and SPDIF can handle 7.1 and higher sound systems. The biggest problem with replacing DVI with HDMI is that there is no way to convert HDMI to VGA because HDMI removed all the analog capabilities that DVI has.

DVI is it for now, until VGA systems are replaced with Digital interfaces.

Also, I hope that the new systems have UWB or Wireless-USB.

LOL, you dismiss the anecdotal evidence and back your argument up with, surprise, anecdotal evidence.

"Support satisfaction in the US" does not translate into hardware reliability. Are you the bloke who referred to a 1995-survey the other day to prove that macs were cheaper to run because it was more reliable?

Btw, take a look:

Also, one has to consider that Apple has a huge following of true fanboys who are willing to gulp anything Apple decides to dish out. In true fanboy-fashion, this results in people claiming that they have no problems with apple products, yet at the same time are willing to play with voltages to the CPU and "tweak" the fans to run constantly in an effort to avoid core shutdowns in the MBA.

one thing I know for sure the macbook pro and macbook will be thinner. Thats the trend.

Will it have an optical drive? I think its time to make the optical external or optional built in. I wish my 5.0 lb macbook did not have that clunky noisy drive that I never use. Dead weight imo

Oh and for the love of god no more discolored palm rests! Both my white ibook and macbook palm rest turned greenish. I would also like to see them bring back laptop colors.

What if macbooks and macbook pro's shed most ports and the optical drive (allowing for cheaper prices), and apple comes out with a new "brick" that contains the ports and optical drive, which would work wireless with all laptops. Just an idea

Worst idea ever. Ok loosing the FW400 port OK, won't loose sleep on that one if the new ACD have a FW800/3200 port on them.
A lot of pro's need the ports and are not going to be happy (read:pissed off), if Apple decides to drop them.

Wow! How wrong can you get?

Glossy and matte use the exact same LCD displays. The only difference is that the matte displays have a coating which slightly smears the light. This results in less glare in direct sunlight.

The glossy displays have a clear glass screen which transmits more light unfettered by a smeary coating but suffers from glare in direct sunlight.

That is the only difference. Both have accurate colors, both can be calibrated. Matte or glossy is a personal preference and it really depends a lot upon the environment in which you use the laptop.

Stop spreading FUD!

Well, I expect this 'anomaly' to go away soon. Apple has seen some tremendous growth over the last years. A lot of people where drawn in that can make their own comparisons and if Apple continuos to be so self centric they will become disappointed very quickly (just look what they are doing to the iPhone developers...).

firewire 400

um...yeah, because there is no need for the 400 port, its not used for music production or anything; I certainly wouldn't want a port to plug my Apogee duet into.... Either way, I'm glad I got the macbook pro now, before Apple gets all weird and tries to eliminate any plugs or drives... after all, I know Apple is thinking "wouldn't it be easier to just have a port hub/drive separate from your computer, and it can connect bluetooth or wifi... yeah!!! No need for a cd/dvd drive, or usb plugs or firewire......" That way your computer doesn't need to be cluttered with any of those troublesome, you know items that make the computer work.

Thanks.

Good news then.

No problem. And yes, it is good news, unless they actually ditch a fw port, then we will effectively have halfed the number of fw ports. I hope they ditch the fw400 port in exchange for a fw800 port so we will still ahve two.

FW1600 and FW3200 would be almost dreamy, haha.

Can it have the accelerometer like the ipod nano. I just wanna shake my macbook and have it randomly play songs, or movies, or open random programs. that would be fun. a 1000+ dollar shaker

All Intel Laptops and the latest powerbooks have it. It's supposed to secure the hard drive when it feels the laptop is falling. But applications like MacSaber (google it, it's fun) and iAlertU use it differently.

looks pretty realistic to me...only a few weeks to go till we find out for sure.

charcoal would do it for me, with the apple in cobalt blue...daaaamn yeah Apple should have a "customize your MB/MBP case" option..I am willing to pay to pimp my MBP up...

Limited to Apple accepted style standards that is....no use having even more tackiness around
If they are all aluminium there is no reason why the cases couldn't be customised by laser etching like the Zunes are. I am surprised there isn't a company out there that does this already.

To those asking for "sick" yellow and orange anodised aluminium though, I agree. That would be "sick" indeed

More realistically, if they are changing the material expect them to be either all grey aluminium or perhaps a black option and maybe a second kind of grey. More than that is hardly likely.

If they do cripple the MBP like that I'll be surely disappointed.
