Gotcha! I was just saying that, while the prices may be more "competitive" as stated, it will be a minimal drop...

I agree, he has repeatedly spoke about prices for other computers which have little relevance on an Apple forum. Hackintosh maybe...

I will NEVER own anything other than an Apple, and although I am not rich by any means, pricing means very little to me when it comes to my Apple purchases.

Then you are not a college student, who has a part-time job in addition to being full-time, and is strained for funds. I love OS X. I would like to never have to run Windows. But prices come first. And for a ton of PC users, "Macs are expensive" is the first thing that comes out their mouth. I have certain specs I need, and if I can't meet them, I'll be forced to go PC.

The number one thing that bothers me about Mac users is that they can't admit Macs are overpriced and get mad about it, so Apple would have to change, but just live with the prices and say they're "worth it". They're not. Apple is using the same parts as anyone else and charging you 2x the prices for them. If you would stop living with it, you'd be much better off in the long run.

I've talked with tons of other college students about Macs. The number one issue that comes up? Price. I know another guy I just talked to today, in fact, who owns a Macbook and has for 2 years, who said he'll buy a PC for his next laptop, because Macs are too expensive. He's a creative musical guy who likes OS X. But it costs too much.

Sorry, but it's become clear over the last couple of years that Apple will stop at NOTHING to make each model thinner than the last one, just so that Steve can get up on stage and fire off the word "thin" 3 times per sentence. You know how anorexia works, people lose track of reality. They don't care that their teeth are falling out or that they can't muster the strength to lift a pair of socks, they only have one goal -- to get rid of that perceived "excess fat" (=skin and withered muscles).
are you saying the current MBP's are sickening?

(honest question) where they at least close to high end when they were first released?

Also, does no one factor in that compenents only get smaller as time goes on. Surely you could have almost the same product just a wee bit thinner with newer technology.

Its not like they get together and cram laughably underspecked components into their MBP's in the name of thinness.

Annectdotal evidence is not evidence. The value of "worth" isnt a set in stone price and you know it. Compare specs all you want, but there are certainly other things to a mac that make them worth it to others.

The thing no one ever seems to factor into price is all the "little" things about apples designs that are so neat or make computing actually enjoyable again.

Like thin laptops that overheat? Macbooks that crack and MBP's whose graphics cards fail? MagSafe power adaptors that fray and catch fire?

Apple is on par with the industry. Every one of their design features also has a big drawback. The only thing that puts them ahead is OS X.

How much cheaper do you think the new macbooks are going to be?????
:apple:

About $100-$200 more than a comparably speced pc. Considerably better than the current $400-$500 premium. They've been extremely dificult to sell recently with the 30% reduction in the price of laptops during the year.

I love Apple and have owned Macs for 8 years. Of course they are overpriced spec wise. Stupid to argue that. However I still will buy Mac because I like them better. My money and I can spend it the way I choose. Just like everyone else.

Apple relies on people like me. However I'm not blinded either. I know I'm paying a lot more for OS X and the name (mostly). I willing to accept that.

Yes, every component in macs have a 100% failure rate.

Please stop stating your opinion as fact. (the underlined)

I'm not talking "worth" here. I'm saying, flat out, that Apple is charging two times the price for the exact same components as other PC makers. If you'll admit that, we can move on.

You are correct, I am not a college student. WHEN I was a college student, I could not afford a laptop period. Now that I am out in the real world and not a starving student, I can allow myself certain joys like MBP ownership. We all know that Apples cost more then Acer, Dell, HP, whatever... That is not news at all. Pricing is not the ONLY factor. That is why there are so many more MB's in classrooms than MBP's. Common sense I think.

yes ill admit the prices are substantially higher, but thats just you deconstructing what has previously been stated down to a statement that makes it appear that you are 100% right. You cannot factor out peoples opinions on worth when it comes to buying a product. It may not personally matter to you, and many others, but it does to me, as well as many others.

Why are they talking about DVI? If there is not HDMI or DisplayPort on the new Macs, Apple can go to...

More MB's also in other places besides the classroom. Most people I know who own Pro's don't need it and it is a waste. It is bought as a status symbol. A MB is what most people need. People can spend their money anyway they want, but I do find it funny when people try to justify buying a MBP because they know they don't need that much power. One buddy I have always tries to justify it and I prove him wrong. Finally I told him there is no need to justify it. You wanted it and that is your right.

well you cant say its always bought as a status symbol, some people happen to like pretty things and are willing to (wastefully) spend on them.

All I'm saying is that Appleorexia is slowly taking over the entire company. At first it was accomplished by clever engineering, but nowadays it's done by removing stuff entirely.

The iPod Classic 160 GB was dropped in favor of a lesser 120 GB model. Why? So that Steve will be able to say "Look how THIN it is".

The iPhone 3G has no battery door, no 32 GB option (like the iPod Touch) and the battery is rather feeble for a phone + video player + internet device + gaming device + GPS navigator. Why? So that Steve will be able to say "Look how THIN it is".

The MacBook Air is a ludicrously underpowered notebook with no CD drive, no battery door, no Ethernet, no Firewire, no card slots and one single miserable USB port. Why? So that Steve will be able to say "Look how THIN it is".

He needs to be able to say the same thing about the new MacBook (Pro) and will stop at nothing to achieve that goal. He has painted himself into a corner with this thinness obsession, to the point where Apple can never again release a product that's as thick or thicker than the previous model. If the components aren't getting smaller fast enough, features will be scrapped, trust me.

I never said always. I had a 2.4 MBP. Hated it. Sold it. Bought a Black Macbook. Why did I spend an additional 125 USD for a color. Because I like the color better than white and I can. I don't justify it though. I tell the truth. Honestly most people can do with a $500 laptop though they won't admit it.

This could be said about almost EVERYTHING in life. That is why we drive different cars, live in different houses, wear different clothes... That's just human nature.

Who tells you what you need or don't need? Or deserve for that matter.

Ever think the 160 just wasnt selling too well?

32GB on the phone would require TWO 16 GB cards to keep the price the same, and the 3G redesign wasnt that much of a change on the internals, just a new back case and support for 3g

Hmm what would the air be with all those things... oh yea, a macbook. You do have me on the air tho, but the whole point of it IS its thinness and portablility, its not marketed as a full purpose laptop, merely a travel extension.

Do you personally have info on how fast these components are getting downsized? Tech moves forward at an amazing pace these days. A component today can be less than half the size it was just 2 years ago.

Yes they do focus on thin, but its not like they release netbook specs in their products in the name of thinness.

If i had the extra 500 i woulda bought a blackbook as well, its just sexy lol.

The truth is most people could live with a netbook, but people like having the option of more power. And yes i do think its sad when they wont admit their motives for buying.
