So that Steve will be able to say "Look how THIN it is".

Sure, to some extent it's a prestige thing. But it's also really nice. I love how portable my MB is. (In fact, I still miss my 12" PB.)

It may be a stupid questions but any help would be appreciated:

When a new model of a apple comp (macbook in my case) comes out, what will happen to the older stock? What do they normally do with them, do they sell them at a cheaper price? What is the deal?

I am not so sure I like the look of aluminium and really like the current black plastic macbook. I am waiting until the new model comes out in the hope that either a) I will actually love the new model and it will be worth buying OR b) The previous black macbooks will have dropped in price enough to validate buying one of them over the new model.

What generally happens in these situations????

Thanks:eek:

The glass trackpad is a myth. It's not going to happen. Trust me.
Why do you say that?

Anyone care to take a guess at what the RAM options will be?
Probably 2 GB standard with 4 GB and 8 GB upgrade options.

The NC State bookstore states that "Apple MacBooks are on their way and should be in stock October 1st."

September 30 update? :confused::eek::D

FAKE FAKE FAKE FAKE

Plus there will be a distinction and should be.
I'll laugh if the new low-end MacBook "Pro" only has a low-end GPU and a larger display as advantages over the high-end MacBook.

I'm not talking "worth" here. I'm saying, flat out, that Apple is charging two times the price for the exact same components as other PC makers. If you'll admit that, we can move on.

You based that affirmation on what? I just went to the Dell website (which I can assume are the cheapest PCs out there) and build a 13' Laptop with mostly the same specs as the Blackbook. It was 1169$. Then went to HP, it was 1,153.99. And it's not including Vista Ultimate (the nearest version of vista in comparition with OS X) Anti-virus softwares (which are not needed on Macs) Microsoft Office, etc. And accounting the Blackbook isn't even needed, we can take the mid-range Macbook and upgrade it to 250GB, which is really only about 250$ extra for a brand new Macbook.

Apple charging double is not totally true. On MBP & BTO options I can't argue. But base models aren't that expensives.

DOES ANYONE THINK THERES A POSSIBILTY THERE WILL BE A BLU-RAY PLAYER IN THE NEW MACS COMING BEFORE LATE OCTOBER? Please post a reply i Want to Know What You Guys Think? So Is there going to be blu-ray? if So that Would be GREATTTTTTTT!!! :apple: :apple: :apple: :apple:

No blu-ray in the upcoming books.

sorry.

 I have nothing but hate for that HORRIBLY DESIGNED POS. (i own a 6000)

If people think that the MB had serious design issues, i suggest spending a year with this laptop. Youll be making out with your MB when you return to it.

Ever think the 160 just wasnt selling too well?

I say the reason was to make it thinner he made a point to mention that. Toshiba just after the keynote came out with a large slim drive and I bet my money it will be in the classics next update.

I agree that Apple has become thin obsessed. So much could have been with the touch. What do they do? Slap some buttons on it , give it nike+ a feature very few care about and made it THIN.

I have said this a thousand times the Macbook Air is not an ultraportable. I find the damn thing to be heavy. If I pay that kind of money it better be light as Air. But its not! There are thinner and lighter laptops out. It missed the mark big time but why should Jobs care after all its THIN.

I do not mind thin but I would like a full featured light weight thin product over something that is just THIN

Most people I know love the look of the current models. I know many on here want a redesign and it is coming, but the current ones still look good.

Well, you asked for it. Just read my post here. Don't forget that both of the HP's are much better than the Macbook specwise.

People can always argue that Mac OS X is worth paying double the cost for what their hardware is worth. But they can't argue the fact that Apple's hardware is double the price.

Im curious as to what you think the touch needed? Im in love with my 1st gen and i cant really think of anything else Id want, that cant be added through mere updates or a bit of jailbreakery

If OSX itself is worth it, then what does it matter if you lose a few GB's or ghz?

Again, that's not what I'm talking about. We can argue about whether OS X is "worth it" all we want. But the fact that Apple is selling a product for twice its pure hardware value is undebatable.

Is that all you have to say? See my sig on the supposed "iPhone differentiation" part. A lots of people are upset at Apple's obsession with thinness, and thus the ignoring of better hardware features were the device less "thin".

Yeah, that's a brick alright but the latest Dell Latitudes are just as thin as the current MBP, but in typical Dell fashion they're littered with ports, card slots etc. They look pretty much like black MBPs:

I'm all for portability, I'm just saying that the current MacBooks are already thin enough, and that if they can't make them any thinner without omitting features and/or downgrading specs (ports, battery life etc), they should stick with the current size rather than take the form over function route.

Beric, i wasnt aware that you are in the industry. How in the hell do you know they cant make them a bit thinner? Are you aware of every component thats currently available?

just a thought, the new models were rumored to incorporate a 16:9 aspect ratio. can anyone here using photoshop verify if the resolution in the picture is indeed 16:9? that might help some

Again with the "always"...

OK, Always since Steve Jobs took over Apple, they have split there products into two lines "pro" and "consumer". The pro line is superior and designed for the high end market. The consumer version is designed for the middle range market. Apple normally doesn't target low-end, discount markets.

But if the low-end models get an aluminium casing and Apple stops calling the high-end models Pro, the low-end machines will look a whole lot better and more worthy of their pricetags.

But Apple is marketing for two different markets not one. They want to offer an affordable alternative to the middle market and a high-end model to the high-end market. They don't want or need to merge the two. Aluminum casing is part of Apple's GREEN initiative nothing else. Besides, the new models are not even released, we have no idea what will be offered in the two models, that will separate the "pro" from the "consumer" line.

I'll be there with you, sister! ;)

You know, Tuesday is my day off and I like to take it easy and relax. The last few weeks I have spent the entire day on MR getting all excited for a new release. Tuesday night is spent randomly looking at MR with Wednesday morning being a very tired and disappointing affair. I'm so sad
