Me want it. Me want it. More details more specs...does the macbook have x4500 intel gpu? what video card does the mbp have...me want to know.

depending on price point...I have to decide between a refurbished mbp or new mb or mbp.

come on come on come on...cant wait...

In other news...my windows XP dell POS blue screened again....I just updated all the damn drivers....<\rant>

If that bit about DVI and FireWire is true, then a lot of people are going to be pissed!
Myself included! I'm a video editor and I feel that proprietary ports will mess with my workflow!

If they ditch the dual link DVI port on the MacBook Pro I'm going to have to just upgrade to whatever the most OSX86 friendly non-Mac laptop there is out there. :(

Steve can pry my 30" LCD from my cold dead hands.

What if macbooks and macbook pro's shed most ports and the optical drive (allowing for cheaper prices), and apple comes out with a new "brick" that contains the ports and optical drive, which would work wireless with all laptops. Just an idea

I agree..... if you want to reduce the footprint why the fat miniDVI? Why not HDMI and better still DisplayPort (ever so slightly lengthier than HDMI). Oh right.... because they haven't developed any of those themselves and would require another name in their License list! <sarcasm>

Actually DisplayPort doesn't need to be licensed, or at least paid for like HDMI does, hence why the computer industry wants DisplayPort over HDMI. Not to beat a dead horse yet again, but if the 400 port goes, those with ANY of Apple's current displays will be hosed as the breakout cable for the hub has a USB2 cable and a FW 400 cable, so either Apple will include a 400->800 adapter like the 4 pin->6 pin Firewire adapter they included with 3rd gen iPods, or new displays are coming with FW800 ports instead of 400. Full DVI needs to stay, I hate bringing my DVI->VGA adapter with to presentations as is, last thing I want to do is carry 2 adapters that could easily get lost.

If they all look the same and have the same ports I wonder how they'll differentiate them.. will it just be by the graphics card (and obv size)?

I think you just hit the nail on the head. And I hope you are right.

If I like them I will be selling my Alu iMac and getting a MB. Can't wait!

Hopefully I can get enough money for my iMac to pay for a brand new MB :D

Can it have the accelerometer like the ipod nano. I just wanna shake my macbook and have it randomly play songs, or movies, or open random programs. that would be fun. a 1000+ dollar shaker

That would be great! I hardly use the optical drive and would love to see cheaper prices. ~$800

please no

All I can say is PLEASE NO don't put only glossy glass screens on these devices. If they are glossy only MBP's people just will not buy them.

great stuff, I am going to upgrade to a new Macbook Pro in January, I should get a christmas bonus, and I think I will spend it on a new laptop to upgrade from my Alu Powerbook G4 1.25Ghz, it served me well, and still does, but it's time for a more powerful machine now :) Oh mr Jobs, Quadcore processors please :) :apple:

I second this plea...I just bought my MBP, and would not upgrade if the new ones "only" have :small" changes like the case color/material and less or different ports ( i know a lot of people are gung ho over this, but me personally don't use those ports much). BUT if we're talking quadcore processors and being able to stick in even more memory...I am on the buying list!

Ditch the optical drive already....I use it 3% of the time...makes it unnecessarily heavy and bulky...the brick option sounds far more appealing, but it has to be included in the package, I am not paying more for that option..or it must be at a competitive price

i hope you are right as well.

that would be really awesome too as the only time i use an optical drive is to install software or burn DVD's... other than that it is empty 90% of the time.

Putting mini-DVI on new pro laptops is a terrible idea. I'm really hoping whoever saw the thing got confused at what he was looking at. I'd take either HDMI or DisplayPort as they are just as capable. I doubt a desire to slim it further would lead apple to take a backwards step in video output, that's just crazy

Damn it! Keep the frickin FireWire 400. I don't want to have to buy different cables!

If you read the thread over at Appleinsider, you'll see that the FireWire 800 port will be backwards compatible with FW 400.

This is great news, would like to hear more about the new macbooks too though

Right. Thanks for setting me straight there. For a moment I thought they were speaking figuratively or something. Either that, or trying to sell me shoes.

Overall this is great news!! And I just thought about what you said...and had an awesome idea....

WHAT IF APPLE CAME OUT WITH SHOES?! I would totally buy them.

in need

I'm still using a 12 inch powerbook g4. A frequent comment I get is "I didn't know they make one that small". I think a lot of people would like to have a small macbook. I like the screen space of the 15 and the 17 is awesome.

It (powerbook g4) works okay but is slow and the screen isn't so bright.

Size is a concern in my buying process. Trying to carry books and the computer on a motorcycle is a factor for me.
