they should ditch Firewire altogether and throw in another USB port instead.
i think the black bordering like they have on the iMacs is a sweet idea, but i would much rather have an all black MBP.

Ha, its more because I know ill never have the funds to replace it.

My Core Duo MacBook is still good after two years. :)

By the way, would you care if the "Pro" name is either added to the MacBook or is dropped from the MacBook Pros in this coming update of Mac laptops?

heres my suggestion. Obtain an old laptop and take it apart. Just the act of doing this will answer many of your questions and give you some insight to the engineering spectacle that is a laptop.

I suggest taking apart a POS inspiron 6000:mad: (personal thing)

I find the best way to examine a POS Dell is after dropping it from a second floor window.

How does Aluminium compare to Polycarbonate Plastic (that current MacBook have) in your view?

Polycarbonate (pc in this context) yellow with age. This can somewhat be alleviated with additives, but in real life it is not a matter of if, but of when.

Pc doesn't dent, but it is brittle in comparison - giving the same weight or thickness as alu. Pc has very little form memory, but is very rigid. In other words, giving the proper thickness pc is very impact resistant.
Pc is one of several thermoplastics, and therefore it cannot be used as a conductor to cool the interior. This can of course be a good thing, if you want to have children at a later date ;)
Pc can be remelted and thus reused in injection molding (a certain type of molding), which is also used to produce the "original" case. However, in comparison to aluminium, this is quite a wasteful process. It's much cheaper to use aluminium – especially on a grander scale (i.e bigger objects than a laptop).

Pc, however, although very resistant to high temperatures, seem to become brittle in very low temperatures, unlike aluminium. Of course it's not as brittle as acrylic but still.

That's it. I can't think of more of the top of my head.

I'm so unlucky with macs. I seem to always have the problems the minority complains about. My ibook graphics card conked out on top of having the blue palm rest. My macbook has the crack and the side by the ports is loose you can kinda push it in. On top of mystery music that sometimes plays for no reason.

Even with all of that I just cannot go back to windows.:(

Brilliant question,no really!!
Just to antagonize those who stereotype Mac users as elitist, call the actual MacBook a MacBook Pro and call the MackBook Pro a MackBook Elite.

So, what should the Macbook Air be called? The MacBook Probationer?

You dislike me?

And I have to admit, I do not truly understand how laptops are designed most of the time but that does not make me stupid or dumb in any way.
I go by this saying: "Don't be afraid to ask dumb questions.". ;)
That is how people learn and later can do something great in their life.

No, I do not dislike you, I assumed you had been inside a laptop before, I guess I should have replied more like Tosser...

Yes. it would be like trying to replace a floor in an apartment with the floor of another apartment, with the caveat that you weren't allowed to disassemble or break any of the planks. On second thought, that might be helluvalot easier :)

But, why do you hate MacBook PRO's so much? There will always be a consumer and pro line, why does this bother you SO much?

"so much"? What do you mean?
I think you're confusing me with someone else in this thread, quite frankly. I am typing this on a 2.33GHz MBP. No the one computer in the entire laptop line-up I really dislike is the MBA. Seldomly have I seen such a poor excuse for a laptop. It has less ports than the simplest of pdas. Well, and the power of one, lol.

My bad, I was talking to kabunaru, I merely included your quote because I liked your apartment analogy. Sorry for the confusion...

So why does someone who recently said that Macs and iPhones are no more than a fashion statement have a MBP?

To Tosser-

Oh and I am am an art photographer, but I don't mind you being wrong about saying I'm obviously not!

These quotes are really getting messed up now!

Sorry if that double post was me.Are there technical problems going on?
I'm not familiar yet with all the options and I am practically always posting on my iphone which probably doesn't help but I actually prefer using it to my Mac mini most of the time.

I'm on the verge of buying a new MB for school I need it badly!

Should I just wait it out till oct.14?

I would try, just for the multi-touch features alone.
My Mum wasn't persuaded by me to wait though, and has just bought a new MacBook,I don't think the multi-touch features where any kind of deal breaker for her-she mostly just writes.

I'm assuming you, Hands Sandon, were not talking to me?

No,you've never tried to make me out as a liar!

Well, I played around with the MacBook Air at an Apple store and I expect the new MacBook will have the same features(hopefully!!)
You can swipe left or right on the track pad to flip through photos and web pages.Pinch in or out with two fingers by dragging them together or apart to increase of decrease font sizes on a web page or zoom in or out of photos(iPhoto). You van also rotate images in iPhoto, aperture etc by using two fingers to create a semi-circular movement.
One thing I really liked too on the Air is that the trackpad made for nicer ,smoother scrolling on web pages than the MacBook, bit that may not be different on the new MacBook.
The screen I belive is being updated to that of the Airs (it's got a much brighter punch Toe)

Someone left an extra quote tag in, so it appeared as a different person quoted. Then as you press quote, the mistake continues as one person behind in sequence. As this forum will not quote a quote by default, it cuts out the quoted text, but leaves the unclosed tag behind, which ends up closed by the "[/quote]" tag at the end. That is, it doesn't magically know which quote tag you wanted closed, so it uses the closest one to the end and appears broken. This propagates with everyone that presses quote. Lesson: Check the tags before you press reply! ;)

That is a little too far out of line, I think. While Apple may be game changers, it isn't always because their products are amazing. Yes, the iPod was a game changer for the MP3 player industry (as well as the iTunes store), but it wasn't because of the device itself. The iPod is pretty much a screen and a hard drive, okay? Nothing revolutionary there. What is revolutionary is how they were able to market and sell the device, and now, just 7 years later, 160 million sales under their belt. The same goes for the iPhone (though it is by far a more revolutionary device than mobile phones before it). As for the above picture with the dual screen setup notebook/tablet hybrid, come on. That is way too confusing for me even, and I know how to work things better than most people. I do have to say, the idea about the multi-touch trackpad changing into controls for iTunes, etc. is quite cool, and may even in fact be a feature.

Its called iTunes. That was the first step.

One of the things that makes Mac computers so attractive is Apple makes the machine the software AND the gadgets. iTunes is just the software that ties the gadget to the OS and the computer. Thats what made the gadget so popular w/ the Apple crowd. It was a niche thing and started showing up in movies, videos, photos and on the street, in class etc

What sent it over the top and BRANDED it though was when they made iTunes for Windows which opened the floodgates.

Obviously marketing was huge but it was the software that allowed it to be.

Aluminium is therefore about the most perfect metal to use. It won't corrode, it's lightweight, relatively strong and ductile enough not to crack with stresses. It is also very safe, and there is no conclusive evidence that it causes Alzheimer's! (See wiki/google) Not to mention that you won't be consuming aluminium from your laptop, cookware or foil unless you take a file to it and eat the dust. ;)

What about cooking an egg on it? I hear those Nvidias run rather hot. ;)
