If your pregnant you shouldn't use non-stick cookware. If you've got bad kidneys, including from alcohol you should limit your contact to aluminium as much as possible. So many people with Alzheimers,no explanation as to why except toxins!!!Alcoa has plenty of money to buy scientists through funding etc.
Titanium, glass and rubber would be by far the safest laptops.

Actually its suspected alot of people who are diagnosed w/ Alzheimers or dementia in fact have Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease which is the human form of Mad Cow disease. The only way to tell whether a person has died from Mad Cow instead of Alzheimers or dementia is to do an autopsy of the brain. That explains why most of the fatalities from Mad Cow may never be revealed for what they truly are. There have been a significant amount that were erroneously diagnosed before seeing the spongified brain matter postmortem.

they should ditch Firewire altogether and throw in another USB port instead.
i think the black bordering like they have on the iMacs is a sweet idea, but i would much rather have an all black MBP.

Why don't you just get a black MacBook then? Wanting to get rid of the firewire suggests to me you don't even need a PRO machine anyways. Some of use the firewire ports every day thank you very much.

To Tosser-
So why does someone who recently said that Macs and iPhones are no more than a fashion statement have a MBP?
Oh and I am am an art photographer, but I don't mind you being wrong about saying I'm obviously not!

Never said "Macs" as a whole where no more than a fashion statement. The MBA. Sure. Because it is. MBP's are bought very frequently by someone who would be better off with a MB, just because they think their mates may think better of them.
And the iPhone is surely a fashion accessory, as is the touch. Not to mention fads. But I never said "Macs are no more than fashion accessories" – that's simply wrong at best, a full on strawman at worst.

Anyway, if you really want to know, my next computer won't be a mac. It will be Thinkpad. The reason: Quality. Or lack thereof on Apple's hardware.
I have been using Macs since before you were born (you said in another thread, iirc, you 18 or 15 or something and you have only had "a" computer for a year), and they have always been tools to me.
I used to buy macs gladly back when the hardware was thinkpad quality. Back then I chose it over a thinkpad because of the os. Now, the quality is crap, they have more than a healthy dose of focus on the lowest common denominator consumer – so much in fact, that even the OS suffers greatly (Leopard, sigh …).

Why didn't I give up back when I had to have my MBPs replaced and repaired one after another? Well, the price of a MBP (although very overpriced recently) is still a relatively little cost in comparison to what I have invested in software time and energy in those apps. However, I have spend that time well. I have little by little learned other apps to know so the switch wont hurt me as badly as it could. Hell, I even learned to install and use different Linux distros because I really didn't want to go windows. But that will not be a real contender for me for years: The apps I need simply doesn't exist on the platform. No, a dual boot hackintoshed Thinkpad will be next. Why dual boot, you ask? Well, just as a safety precaution for the apps, I mentioned. It's a way of giving me piece of mind. Hopefully Snow Leopard (aka "The Big Bug Fix") will get rid of the most annoying things in leopard, giving me a proper computer (Thinkpad) with a decent OS (Snow Leopard) in the end.

I'm sorry about the length. Figured you might understand better if I gave you something conrete.

Edit: P.S. I think it was me, who started the slew of idiotic quoting by leaving out a tag by accident. Sorry guys.

Do you know that Thinkpads have not also had a decline in quality? I forever here the generations above saying fridges, VCRs, TVs "aren't made like they used to!" :D

Go back to school and read some chemistry, biology and physics books and then rewrite your post. What a boatload of cr*p.

All these pilots flying in aluminium tubes are dropping dead like flies. According to a survey Apple customers have longer lifespans and more hair than others. How does this fit with your aluminium example?

In addition if you have bad kidneys from alcohol, then I guess it's a safer bet staying away from alcohol than aluminium..

Alzheimers has probably been around for centuries, but was not recognized because it's a neurodegenerative disease. There is no conclusive evidence that it is caused by toxins.

To the original question whether aluminium is bad: it isn't. Aluminium corrodes very fast and has a layer of aluminiumoxide around it at all times. That's why aluminium is never shiny but always a bit matte looking. aluminiumoxide is completely harmless. If you would ingest it, any non corroded parts would corrode very quickly due to the acid in your stomach. Your body does not have the capability to breakdown aluminiumfilings or whatever, so it would come out unprocessed on the other end. As with all metals (yes all) it's not adviseable to lick your MBP, private plane, nuclear reactor, car etc, because ingested metals in solution CAN harm you, but you would have to be licking your MBP full time for this. A kiss every once in a while is harmless though :)

That was what I feared when lenovo bought the brand from IBM. However, everything points to them having kept the degree of quality and even improved it this and there. So, yes, I'm certain. Just picking up a recent Thinkpad and taking a gander at the assembly quality shows a huge difference between an MBP and Thinkpads – with the MBP as the looser.

Anyway, if you really want to know, my next computer won't be a mac. It will be Thinkpad. The reason: Quality.

I use Thinkpads for work and get new ones around every two years. Me and all of my colleagues have observed a decline in quality over the past years. I use an MBP privately and am very happy with it. Quality factor is IMO better than Thinkpad.

Just some examples of bad Thinkpad quality: flimsy DVD drive, WIFI/Bluetooth switch is crappy and toylike, unresponsive and small trackpad, crappy position of the latches for the screen (not possible to open it while holding it on your arm, you always have to sit it down on a surface (T61)). Its really heavy too.

I would also personally say that the quality of the design is crap. There is no reason for it to be as ugly as it is, especially since the design hasn't changed over the past 8 years. Form follows function, but this form doesn't follow anything. Good hardware does not need to be ugly.

What is good in Thinkpad: good screen, good keyboard, good specs and upgrade possibilities.

That's certainly not the case with me. We use thinkpads at work too (unless we use our own), and they are rock solid. Even if ignoring Thinkpads, the MBP is build worse than the average dell. And it sure as hell isn't "quality" any way you put. Look around and see how many are having problems with these.

Your not seriously suggesting I make a list of MBP problems, are you? It will be a long list, if I do.

Its really heavy too.
LOL, ever carried around an MBP? Or tried an X-model?

Funny. You certainly seem in the minority here. First, I don't consider it ugly. Secondly, it seems like you DO prefer form over function, and thirdly, the thinkpads are certainly all "business" (i.e. all function - think land rover defender). Even the keyboard is miles ahead of the one on the MBP, and over the horison compared the MB-kb.

"Good expansion", better battery life if using the big battery, better support compared to Apple Europe, and certainly better build quality overall, including the fact that it doesn't bend, dent or pit, and so on.

Thinkpads have a had few models that have been slightly lenovo'd, but on the whole they're pretty damn good - and what is there to compare to them? Doesn't bother me, I look at what I'm buying and couldn't care less about any kind of brand loyalty.
The trackpoint (imo) and keyboards are second to none. This is how I use a laptop, so it's a pretty big decider.
I prefer the look of thinkpads to most other laptops, for all those people talking about 'professional looking mbp' in various threads - they make them look a bit fisher price.
I wish the x200 series had digital av out, unfortunately lenovo are as dumb (and deaf) as the rest of them.

If you go back the "First Seinfeld ad airs-show circus" to post #1184 it's clear (especially if you read the last line) that you did say that about Macs and iPhones.I believe it's in the same thread you called me a liar.
I didn't ever say I was 15 or 18 maybe you did somewhere.I did say I was 37 in a post somewhere though.
There are always people who buy in excess of what they actually ever will need,I don't suppose Apple is immune to that any more than any other company.

+1 on Thinkpad quality. I have to use one at work from time to time and besides my MBP, is the best laptop I have every used. UGLY? YES, rock solid? YES.

I don't think everyone should worry about their aluminium exposure, the "enveronmentally friendly" topic was brought up.I think you'll find that titanium has no known health risks.
Aluminium on a computer is not likely to harm hardly anyone sure, but scientists are forever making new discoveries and some day,who knows aluminium on laptops etc might be banned.Google-
"Metals link to multiple sclerosis. BBC" in that article scientists make a link between Multiple Sclerosis and high levels of aluminium. All I am saying is be careful-I agree that the tiny exposure through your laptop is highly unlikely to harm you,but who knows what people may discover in the future.Glass, titanium and rubber, I think are less likely to cause anyone any future health issues.

I don't want my MacBook Pro to be smaller, I want it to be more useful. Taking off the FW-400 and full DVI ports will not make it more useful.

ok ok fine im sorry
I just thought youd be happy guys
Normally, when someone make a stupid statement like mine, everybody get happy, but obviously, you dont have that type of humour

peace:)
