fake, yeah maybe but what about the chip?

Bottom line, this may or may not be some enclosure prototype but why would we expect Apple to release anything until Intel gets the Montevina chip out?

We all know there's a delay into the third quarter. Would Apple go ahead and release a revised MBP without a chip improvement?

I'm a bit skeptical to say the least.

Backlight notifications?

Why put individual LED's in when it's sitting behind a full LED screen/backlight? That's how the current backlit logos work.

arn

Maybe there will be red, blue and green LED's that will allow color permutations and notifications as documented in old patents?

No backlit Apple logo!

No sale!

LOL - I have a white macbook. My wife thinks it is cook to see the apple logo lit up from across the room. Without it, it will just look like any other ole laptop with a company logo on it. I like the lit up apple myself, makes my mac standout.

but then again, if it is a source of wasted battery consumption - then I guess I could forgo it, but LED's don't take that much electricity anyway.

That we won't be able to see while we are working, but other can see what kind of p0rn the user is watching.

Green for mild,
Blue for slow
Red for..... you get the idea.

The design is bu!!$h!t, like the Aluminum keyboards. If I am wrong, then here goes another round of love it/hate it Apple design that newbies will love, and diehard Apple fans will get used to then hate after a while.

I hope Apple doesn't get rid of the backlit logo and the current keyboard. I really despise the black MBA keyboard idea. Does not make it look/feel like a pro machine at all.
i love the styling and performance of the MBP, just waiting for montevina. These better be fake. otherwise i might not buy.

Wow, this photo really tells us a lot about the redesign.

I mean the current MBP is a big, rounded, aluminum, clamshell, silver casing.

Now this, this is a rounded, big, aluminum, silver, clamshell casing. Wow what a concept piece.

Please Apple, let's get away from silver and possibly less aluminum so that we can have a better wireless experience. Every cheap piece of electronics gear in Walmart is now silver rounded rectangles. This design is old, boring, and needs revamping.

I would like my next MBP to look a lot different than what I have been toting around for the past 8 years. "I am including the TI because it basically looked the same just a little more square."

Yes, I know that there are those that love this design and want to be buried in a silver, aluminum, clamshell case. However just like automobiles, the good designers somehow keep coming up with new styles that make the previous design look tragically dated. In a few years, after new MBP models ARE released people will look back on the AL PB, MBP series as a relic who's time has long gone.

I've always wondered, is the logo backlit from the screen or does it have a separate light itself? I know if the screen is off and light shines from the back you can see a backwards :apple: on the screen.

I'm indifferent on the look of the case. While others I know love the current design, at some point there needs to be a refreshing new one. On the logo, I feel that if Apple removes the backlit one they will put something cooler or equally cool, in its place. Someone mentioned black glass, for example.

Unlikely. The bottom has no vents, no RAM shield, LRF mounts that might go on a MB, but not a MBP, and - most importantly - nowhere an iBook/PB/MB/MBP/MBA-style hinge could go: look at how Thinkpads', which have that rear battery, hinges work. No way Apple would ever do that.

Given that, I'm guessing the top piece is a regular MBP display back that was snatched off the assembly line mid-production, before punching was done.

Current design isn't perfect

I see several things that the new design may be able to improve.

Keyboard - feels good, but I've had a couple keys break/pop off on my PB G4. Some of the keys have become more sensitive than others (and I've tried cleaning underneath them to no avail). The MBA keyboard may not be ideal, but I think it's an improvement. Also, when is Apple going to fix the keyboard-marks-on-screen problem? Are we still going to have to buy those little neoprene pads to prevent it? Maybe MBA/MB users could comment on whether their keyboards make the same marks, whether the glossy screen helps/hurts, etc.

Overall case design - I think the curvature/wedge shape of the MBA is a step in the right direction. Think of an arch - it's more architecturally sound than a squared design. Case in point, my PB G4 has marks in the middle of the screen from years of pressure applied to the middle of the lid when closed - I think this may be avoidable with a more rounded, dome-like lid and bottom like that of the MBA. I haven't seen this problem on other notebooks even after several years. Also, that grey plastic rim around the lid and palm rest/keyboard can break, especially where the superdrive is on the 17". I know that it serves as a joint instead of fusing all the edges permanently together, but I think it looks cheap.

Trackpad - needs to be bigger. I think there are a lot of potential applications for multitouch in pro apps like FCP.

Latch - I require tape to keep my PB G4 closed. Might sound like I mistreat it, but it's old and those tiny, spring-loaded, magnetic metal clips are unnecessary moving parts.

I was drawn to the MBA for its design, and I humbly consider myself a pro user. I would buy it in a heartbeat, but I can't since I need the power/screen of the MBP.

If the logo of the apple on all laptops are of the same size (I assume it is), it looks like the case of a 15" laptop, maybe even a 17" since the logo is smaller comparatively. I just compared it to the back of my MBP as I type this.

Reading the Chinese blog, and if it is true, the logo might just be a glossy black one, like the one in front of the aluminium iMacs. The 3 holes might be for the logo to clip in place so it will not rotate.

Plastic keys are not really an issue, since all backlit keys on current MBPs are plastic sprayed in silver. The only real Aluminium keys I know of are on non-backlit keys of the old PBs. Smudges will definitely be problematic on MBA type keys, but the current silver ones do show stains around the edges when they are dirty. I suspect the glossy keys might be easier to clean, as I have to rub real hard to remove the dirt on my keys.

If this is really a new MBP design, I wonder if they have found a way to fix the WiFi reception issue of an aluminium case. So far it seems like plastic shells are better for that. Do love the aluminium, despite its current drawback.

Curved edges for a case are indeed nicer looking, and even helpful. You can use them to cut cakes if you don't have a knife around...

You obviously haven't tried installing a new hard drive on the MBP.

You don't need a better example of how not perfect the MBP design is.

Apple produces products in finished form. Just because your (and my preference) requires a very specific HDD doesn't mean they have a design flaw. Personally, I want the next generation to offer CTO SSD so I can buy one on Newegg and throw that in.
