Sounds great. Guess I need to install the beta!No issues yet this evening…it’s after midnight and I’m in the same dark environment. Still terrified to jinx it, but so far it’s looking good.
Well, I ended up with two shutoffs… the first was around 2:45am, and the second was at 3:33am.
Obviously I’ll be keeping a close eye on this over the next few days. Super disappointing that it’s still shutting off, since it worked so well on 16.0 & 16.1
I had mine on 16.4 beta 1 last night, and on a focus mode (do not disturb). I set the aod to be on in that focus. That's a shame. Have you tried adding it to a focus like I posted yesterday?

It still shut off a few times. It’s still buggy and I think related to it trying to “learn” your habits. If you’re usually not using phone at 12.30am then it probably will start turning off
Yeah… the problem is that, no matter what, the AOD is gonna turn itself off on its own when it thinks it knows what you want. From what I posted a couple of days ago about it being able to be attached to a focus, I thought in the beta we could set it to not go off when a focus was on?
I had zero shutoffs last night…Any improvement in 16.4 beta 2?
"When not in use" is basically all the time??I had zero shutoffs last night…
…although it makes me really nervous that they added this text to the AOD settings, almost as if they’re trying to manage expectations for a display that will keep shutting itself off:

Isn’t the ALWAYS-ON display supposed to be ON when the phone isn’t in use?
"When not in use" is basically all the time??
It sounds just as I suspected from the beginning. This "feature" is just a heavy handed way to prevent battery drain (and perhaps burn-in) on their first iteration of AOD.
*First iteration for a phone. I imagine that's part of the reason they designed it as it is. They took the watch design and applied it to a bigger screen and compromises had to be made. Hopefully it will follow in the footsteps of the watch and improve later on.Well, it’s not their first, the Apple Watch has a real AOD for years now
I am on 16.4 beta 2 and the display just shut off. There's no difference from what I can tell. As for the watch, the AoD on the watch worked perfectly from day 1. Maybe this is Apple's way of frustrating us into buying the 15 pro max, which will have a REAL AoD.![]()
