I have XS Max and I usually upgrade, but due to the ridiculous amount of a down payment t-mobile wants for the pro, 256gb I’m waiting. Yes the battery and camera sound nice, but for now I’ll wait and pay off the rest of my phone.
T-Mobile doesn't have any type of trade in program? Some carriers will allow you to trade in your old phone for the new one once you've paid half on it. With a two year payment schedule this happens after a year. Of course I think you have to pay taxes upfront so there might be a hundred or so out of pocket at the time of the trade.

Okay. But if it isn't for any specific reason(s), then you are going to change phones for the sake of simply buying something new. That's a terrible reason to upgrade your phone IMO.
My reason is I like the new phone? The low light photography feature interests me but I doubt I'll use it much.

May I ask how much T-Mobile was asking for an upfront payment?

I promised myself I would skip this year refreshment but like every year I just get too into it and want the newest iPhone. It's not like my iPhone XS Max has gone worse since the keynote of the iPhone 11 (Pro Max) but still.. just having this feeling of getting the newest version is something I'm anticipating every year, even though the improvements over the last years iPhone aren't as big as they supposed to be.

So am I 'sick' because I want the iPhone 11 Pro Max although owning the iPhone Xs Max?

Not sick unless you were figuring to part with the grocery money to get the newer one.

So you can't trade it in? With Verizon I do monthly payments, then trade it in every year. I wind up paying the same thing monthly every year and I enjoy my phone so that is how I do it.

I never judge what someone else buys, even if I find it silly because I know people find it silly that I want the new phone every year.

There’s literally a program for getting a new one every time they release one... so if you’re sick then what am I for being in that program? I need new iPhones - it’s my addiction. I will pay Apple every month for life to get them.
I too am addicted to iPhones.

Depends on your financial situation. Many people are on IUP or something similar. I just buy the phones sim free and unlocked and sell them every year. If I spend 1200 on a phone and sell it for about 600-700 when on done then I only pay 500-600 a year to own it. So that’s like 42-50 bucks a month. What ever not bad in my eyes lol.
Yes, the iPhones hold their value like no other brand.

T-mobile wants about $500 for pro 256gb
There jump program is a joke!!!

I talk myself out of the upgrade every year.

But under IUP its the same price if I keep the old phone OR get the new one.

I only have to pay the Sales tax on the new phone.
SO for an extra $70 I get a new phone with:
Faster CPU and Graphics
Upgraded neural engine
Better Camera and videos
Brighter screen
Clean new housing
Faster larger charger
Better audio
Faster LTE & WiFi
Extra 4 hours of battery life which would have been reason enough to upgrade in years past

And a free year of Apple TV+ for the whole Family. That alone would have been $64 with tax.

Plus all the excitement of the preorder process
This is my rational every year. If Apple charged interest or something on the loan, I wouldn't do it but it's so easy, why not?

I usually upgrade each year. I didn’t get the iPhone 5s though, but I’ve purchased every other year. I’m also not upgrading this year and to be honest, it’s not easy. I love the anticipation of buying and receiving a new iPhone. However, I know that I’m actually happy with my XS Max. I have 512GB storage and it’s perfect. My XS Max isn’t slow and it does everything that I need it to do. If I upgrade, then perhaps I get some new camera features, but functionality wise, the 11 Pro Max would still do what my XS Max does. It still has a maximum of 512GB storage and comes with 4GB ram, same as my XS Max. So I will wait another year and hope to see some of the following updates....a 1TB model, 6GB ram, charge my AirPods on it, USB-C on the iPhone and perhaps no notch, not that I am bothered by it anymore. Waiting another year will just make it feel like the upgrade is more worth it.
So hold out this year and you’ll have a nice upgrade next year.
Just get past this week and next and then it will get easier.
