"What do people need to sync their iPads to desktops for? I use the cloud for everything"

So those who do not use the cloud for syncing, as has been mentioned here in detail by others are wrong. You use it for everything, so that means your fact rules. It does't rule, unless you believe that your practices are correct, and dismay of why others do it differently.
Fact being I use the cloud for everything. Not the fact being everybody should use it. You are being purposely obtuse. Looking for small crap to disagree about. That's like saying I like donuts and you having a problem with it. "You stated donuts are good and not everybody likes donuts. You shouldn't get to tell people they have to like donuts"

Anything else you would like to disagree with today? Or you gonna allow yourself a break to take that stick out of your ass?

Whatever. And its not like you saying you like donuts, its like you saying why doesnt everyone like donuts, I do. Thats the so called small crap your whining about. And I disagree with that. But you finale comments do sum it up attitude wise, I'll let you figure that one out. You could have said that you use cloud for everything. Cool. And why. Cool. But your attitude was that why would anyone else do different to you? Not very cool. I outlined some reasons why some do different. Also cool. Both of us are correct. Although apparently not. Admittedly my one liner wasn't necessary. I dislike opinions being stated as facts, which basically puts down anyone else who practices the opposite. I could have said, what idiots use the cloud, I use my PC for syncing, which was how some would interpret your post. In any case, this is a diversion to the core thread.

I do different things on my iMac than I do on my iPad; somethings one but not the other can do. I don't think there is a one-size-fits-all device.

Not sure if you are under the impression I disagree with you or not.

I'm sure both your iMac and iPad occasionally do the same things right? I was just pointing out that the majority of mundane task are shared across both devices or are at least capable of such. It's not until you get to specific task that one device shines over the other and generally all it needs is the dev support to make that task compatible with both.

Good examples. Its probably possible to work hard with seeking workarounds for everything, but thats hardly worthwhile. Its like finding appropriate parts to take a limo to the ski field.

Exactly. Until it's just as simple or just a few steps, I unfortunately can't make the jump to iPad only.

The IPP does not per se necessarily replace a laptop for me since while I would be doing essentially the same things daily, the cost of the IPP with accessories rears its ugly head. :)

I still went for it but good laptops always go on sale and I could definitely save some coin so the IPP adds expense.

You can download torrents from this or it's just for the file transfer?
Due to Apple's perverted opinion about torrent and file sharing, you will never be able to download torrents directly onto your iOS device. This is one of the reason why I dislike the "walled garden" of Apple.

I just can't understand why they don't implement a switch in the settings area of iOS where you can say: ok, I allow to download and install iOS Apps from different places than the App Store.

I thought torrents sort of went out of fashion 5 or so years ago... What comes as a torrent now ?

I think the perception of this was created by the public audience who assumed the iPad Pro was targeted at the Surface Pro market. I think this was probably further perpetuated with Tim Cook's comments that this could replace a laptop for many.

From a reality perspective, I agree it could replace a laptop but the audience for this would be confined to those users who only use email, browse the web, Facebook etc. This typically includes people like my mum who already now use the iPad for most of her tasks and the laptop is confined for things like word.

That said, I don't think Microsoft did Apple any favours with the Office for iPad suite. Word is missing basic features, some of which are included in Onenote. For example, OneNote allows you to use styles (for headings) and Word doesn't have headings and you have to create them manually? seriously WTF? Whether that was intentional by Microsoft, or whether it was accidental is a mystery.

The one thing I will say I am disappointed with is the keyboard. It's terrible compared to the SP3/SP4 and Apple is generally very good with their keyboards.

Office for iPad hasn't yet been fully updated for the iPad Pro. It's coming later this month. As for the keyboard, it's clear that their goal was making something not much bigger than the standard Smart Cover. To me, the keyboard actually feels a bit better than the one in the 12" MacBook. The actual key travel is about the same, but perhaps because it is on a fabric base it feels a bit softer.

I'm actually okay with apps, but feel like different file types should be allowed to be saved into finder-like apps.

It looks like the DS download app is just a remote control for torrent client running on Synology NAS.

That's actually not a bad idea though. Might be worth looking into and shouldn't be too many steps.

This is one that a poster on another forum gave me to prove the iPad can do everything. Yeah, I know.

Yea I tried Bitport.io, which is similar, but it's still not there yet.

I remote into my Mac and run my torrents there; makes the most sense to me because that is also where my Plex server is hosted and my local storage is connected. I was doing this even back when I was hauling my rMBP everywhere.

Honestly, I'm not even sure why you would want to run a torrent on an iOS device; I'd rather my portable computer be secure in my "walled garden" than have to worry about all the security issues I do with a full-blown OS, even OS X, when I'm out and about.

Could you share where you got that news from? Would be interested in reading more about what updates are coming for the iPP; I use Office on my iPad and have had few complaints.

Haha literally just downloaded an app called Screens that works very well. Good solution so far. Makes sense as I see myself keeping a computer no matter what.

Microsoft is adding inking support to PowerPoint, Excel, and Word. They mentioned some others during the keynote, but I don't think they have posted full details on their blog.

Do you know whether or not Apple is adding ink support to the iWork suite as well?

Some places in the world have ****** internet where the 5GB sync on cloud (or more) will take upwards of 12 hours making your internet unusable during the process.

Let alone having to pay for any more than that.

I know that my iMac and iPad do not do the same things all of the time, I don't do the same things on both of them. I use them according to their strengths, e.g. - I render video on the iMac and I carry the iPad in my messenger bag. :)
