Which makes you more excited ?

I love nice watches but would never be dedicated to wearing a smart watch daily. And for $350 I would rather get a cheaper G Shock for casual wear.

Really? I thought it was rubbish. Couldn't handle files well, and required a lot of research and workarounds to get any productivity out of it. Ended up collecting dust in our place until we gave it to our friend's toddler who loves it.

A heavy, browsing, video watching device. Think it was nearly 800 grams for our 3G version! :D Add in a case and you're carrying an extra kilo. Like what.

So the iPad 1 wasn't an amazing and game changing tablet that made tablets mainstream and usable? LOL!

Tablet sales are slumping as a lot of people realise it's a bulky device they didn't really need, besides, the 'game-changing' thing about the iPad wasn't the iPad.

It was iOS, the App Store, and 3rd party developers.

iPad 1 was no-where near amazing. In fact, I remember how a large number of Apple fans were dismayed when it had the iPhone OS. They knew deep down it was a profiteering toy. Apple hope to pull the same trick with the watch - release some hyped new gadget and hope that 3rd party developers sell it to eager consumers. It will work.

But don't confuse any of that for being Apple's innovation. It's been a while since we've seen Apple truly innovate. They're just bundling available componentry with their software and touting it is the best. Worse still, Apple are following the market, not leading it (hence the flip-flop mockery you're no doubt sick of hearing).

I haven't even used a digital watch in many years. Just a clean analog watch to keep track of time when I don't want to pull the phone out of my pocket, or am in a place I can't take my phone.

Well considering the iPhone 6 is literally three days away from hitting our shelves and the Apple Watch doesn't even have an official release date yet (early 2015 doesn't count as a release date), then no, you're not the only one!

I wanted to like the watch but meh. I have not worn a watch in years. My phone does the time. Apple watch is just to thick, too expensive, and somehow drawing happy faces and sending my heartbeat to someone else just doesn't cut it for me.

I may get an apple watch but I'm not getting apple watch 1. I think the apple watch will have less of an expected upgrade cycle than other devices. At the speculated $450 for the sport version (the only version I'd think is worth it imo), I'll wait for a better version before I bite.

Actually, I think the Apple Sport versions are going to be the cheapest options. I.e., the smaller screened Apple Sport will be the one that is $349. It's made of aluminum, has a chaper band, non-sapphire screen, and non-ceramic back. The standard Apple Watch collection is probably going to be the mid-tier collection.

I think some people were speculating that the sport version would have a stronger glass but if it is the cheapest version, that'd be good news. I'd still probably wait for apple watch 2 though.

the only thing im hoping for is that one day the apple watch will also become a fully capable sports/tri watch (replace my Polar V800). until then im sticking with my Omega DSOM as my day watch

It seems like you also bought into their hype machine. :)

Apple didn't invent the smart watch nor did they perfect it. They're simply adding their entry to a preexisting product category. Apples watch didn't necessarily get things "wrong" but there's so much there that isn't "right". So you're not joining a revolution, you're paying to be a beta tester.

(That sounds meaner than intended. I'm interested in a smart watch but not interested enough to buy into an unfinished concept.)

Interchange smart watch with "iPhone" "iPad" or "iPod" and you get the same thing people said then. Especially the iPad. Now look at them today.

I don't give a rip about the watch. I'm into tech more than your average guy, but I have limits. When it comes to visibly wearing it (iwatch, google glass), that's where I draw the line. Plus, I already have a great watch that won't be out of date in a few years.

To be fair, the iPad 1 was pretty awesome, a game changer. I had three years of good times out of that bad boy.

iPad1 was awesome indeed, but iPad 2 was way better and is still used nowadays and is compatible with iOS 8.
iPad1 on the other hand isn't even compatible with iOS 6.

I'm afraid the same thing may happen with Apple Watch.
I'm not sure is waterproof, so you can't swim with that device. We know nothing about battery life, but it may be disappointing. And what about software updates in the future?

Of course is too soon to judge the Watch, we have to wait at least until is released.
But the question of the OP is "are you excited?" and I say no.
I was excited when I heard about the first iPad, but I didn't buy the first version and I'm very happy I waited.
I was thrilled when I saw the first iPhone presentation, but I waited a few years and I'm very happy about that.
This time I want to keep my expectations low

I'm excited about the watch.

Or rather, I will be, once we know more about the specs and release date. Right now, there's no point discussing it.

I was interested in the :apple: watch until I got a look at the price and the design. It might be better than other smart watches out there, but it's completely ugly, way to big for petite women, and hugely expensive for a totally unnecessary toy that I probably won't get much ROI from. Now, if they cut $100 off the entry level price, and made it half as bulky I might be interested. If they just made it half as bulky and kept the inflated price, I might still be interested. No matter how you slice it, it's ugly.

Oh, and did I mention... it's ugly. :p

The ladies models are actually quite attractive and not as big as you think. A lot of petite women rock big watches much bigger than the :apple: Watch so it's a matter of style.

Now, if you want a visual monstrosity, consider the Moto 360.

For now, definitely the iPhone. Ask me again in 2 years about the watch.

Exactly. Apple Watch is like iPhone 1 right now. In two or three generations it'll be something interesting... or it will have failed. Either way? Right now is not the time to be especially excited about it.

While it's cool and all, the first gen Apple Watch isn't worthwhile IMO. No point being excited about it. But come back just before the second or third version and my answer will probably be different.

I'm more excited about the iPhone 6, but I want an Apple Watch, and I know a lot of people that want one too.

At sub $400 the price is amazingly low. Go shop for a good wrist watch. Not some crap fashion watch but a real wrist watch. Say a mid range Seiko. You're not going to get into one for less than $500 and all it's going to do is tell time and maybe act as a stop watch. If you delve into higher end watches like Hamiltons or Longenes models with mechanical movements you're into the thousands of dollars and if you start looking at luxury watches (which Apple IS aiming at with the "Edition" version of Apple Watch) you'll get into the tens of thousands of dollars in no time.

So, $350 for an Apple Watch when Apple is clearly targeting this at the WATCH market just as much as the GADGET market? That's unbelievably cheap.
