Which makes you more excited ?

I would have been more excited about the watch if it didn't require an iPhone to work properly. If I have my iPhone on me, why the hell would I want the watch?!. Can't wait to get my 6+ 64gb space grey this Friday :).

The watch will be a nice accessory, but I'm only mildly more interested in it than in any other accessory, like a case. The luddite in me keeps me wearing an Omega diver's watch. It tells time. Period.

Because the phone is so HUGE that you can't take the time struggling to wrench it out of your over burdened and barely surviving pocket to actually use it!

Duh!

The ladies models are actually quite attractive and not as big as you think. A lot of petite women rock big watches much bigger than the :apple: Watch so it's a matter of style.

Now, if you want a visual monstrosity, consider the Moto 360.

I have been known to rock a big watch now and again, it's a THICK big watch that is the problem. I've also worn dive and aviation watches just as thick as the Apple watch because those were the only options at the time, but they performed functionality I actually needed, it certainly wasn't because they were "stylish".

I'm well aware of how big the Apple watch is. I suspect the model wearing that watch is 6' tall. I'm 5'2" with a < 5" wrist circumference. I'd have to grab a tape measure to be sure, but at 38mm (1.5 inches) , even the small watch would (just) hang off either side of my wrist. It's not comfortable wearing a watch where the watch face is actually wider than your wrist.

Now, if the watch were curved, or I could wear it like a bangle, it wouldn't bother me. To my knowledge it can't be worn as a bangle if you want to take advantage of the sensors on the bottom of it.

Thanks for trying, but even if I had a bigger wrist I'd still think it's ugly. :)

You're missing the concept of a smartwatch as Apple has envisioned it. It's to initiate Apple Pay, having turn-by-turn navigation and screen messages/email (to name a few) all without taking your iPhone out of your pocket 50x a day. Not to mention doubling as an activity tracker like the fitbit, etc.

Yeah, same here. My Planet Ocean is not about to give up my wrist for some cheap Apple gimmick.

I really like the look of the watch, as a woman I think it's very cute. I love the idea of the heartbeat thing I might buy one for my fiancé so we can do it and we can draw penises to each other IT'LL BE SO CUTE.

Yup. Not to mention there have been times in my life when an ill-timed alarm or alert from a watch would create a life-threatening problem. That kind of thing never really leaves you. I like a watch that CAN'T make a sound.

At sub $400 the price is amazingly low. Go shop for a good wrist watch. Not some crap fashion watch but a real wrist watch. Say a mid range Seiko. You're not going to get into one for less than $500 and all it's going to do is tell time and maybe act as a stop watch. If you delve into higher end watches like Hamiltons or Longenes models with mechanical movements you're into the thousands of dollars and if you start looking at luxury watches (which Apple IS aiming at with the "Edition" version of Apple Watch) you'll get into the tens of thousands of dollars in no time.

So, $350 for an Apple Watch when Apple is clearly targeting this at the WATCH market just as much as the GADGET market? That's unbelievably cheap.

Ummm. I am well aware what the cost of a good watch is. I have a Tag Hauer. A good Tag Hauer. Last I looked that wasn't a crap fashion watch.

Personally, for me, $350 for an ugly watch that won't fit my wrist is $300 more than I'd be willing to spend for it. Apple can aim for whatever they want, I buy plenty of their products. I just won't be buying the Apple watch until they change the design. If they make it as pretty as my Tag, I'd pay double. I think they will get there eventually.

Actually, I just sold my beloved Omega planet ocean so I can buy the sm300 reissue when it's released in the next few months. Can't see the iwatch replacing my Omega. I'll have to see in it person first. I might wear it on the other wrist ;-)

I see your point but taking the phone out of my pocket is no biggie. I'll wait and see when it's released.

My commentary wasn't about the attractiveness of the device. It was about the price. It was in response to the comment that it's OVER priced. It isn't. It's UNDER priced. By a BIG margin.

Now, as far as watch enthusiasts go, they're going to be a hard sell for this device and that has more to do with philosophy than it does with design. For example. I own an Omega Planet Ocean, an Omega Speedmaster, an Omega Seamaster 300, a TAG Monaco, several Hamiltons, Seikos and a number of vintage Gruen and other brand watches. ALL of them are mechanical movements and all of them are long established and classic designs. No matter how "pretty" Apple makes their "watch" it's still not really a watch. It's a wrist computer and sensor package. I'm not interested in that. If I want to place a sensor package and micro computer on myself I want to put it somewhere other than my wrist. That's where my mechanical watches live. Sorry, Apple.

It is overpriced, to me. Would I spend more if I found it to be more attractive? Sure, because I'm a tech geek. Would I buy it if it was cheaper even though it's ugly? Yes, because I'm a tech geek. Value can be subjective, too.

Value and price aren't the same thing. Mark my words: Apple will be selling these at a huge loss lead.

I did a semester long research project on smartwatches during Spring and all I can say is "lol smartwatches" maybe in a few more years, but for now a smartphone can do everything that a smartwatch can do and much more.

I doubt it. Huge? I really doubt it. I don't know how much, if any, money they will actually make, but I really doubt it is a huge loss leader.

i don't think there is much hype for the watch

... because it's still practically a year away from launch and mark my words: Apple will use it as a loss leader to sell iPhones. That's exactly why it isn't stand alone. Additionally, Tim Cook needs a big post-Jobs win, so they're not going to let this one live or die on a high price. I guarantee that's why they're showing it this early too. So they can get feedback on form, software and so forth while squashing rumors. They have a LOT riding on this thing and it isn't just the watch. They'll be releasing a range of bands and clip on units based on this thing over the next few years too, if the watch is a success.

THAT is why they'll be willing to take a loss on it and that is exactly why a $350 entry price is amazingly low if it ends up doing everything they say it can.

Oh, and one final observation: the "parallax" feature that was making people dizzy on iPhones? It's for the watch. So that the faces look much more realistic as you move your wrist around. Bank it.

Eh, Not interested in the watch I like the Misfit Shine and little trackers like that... But i have no reason to look at my wrist to see a Facebook update. Seems extremely redundant.

You're missing the strategy then, because this is just the first volley and Facebook notifications are NOT the primary focus of the device. Sensors are. You like a slim band? Chances are they have one in the pipeline, along with a clip on version of the watch and other configurations as well.
