Can you jailbrake your iPhone for this configuration? No, you cannot.

Video camera (30fps)
Voice Control
I think that everyone who is not eligible for an upgrade tries to rationalize that they don't need the 3GS ⃣... I get it... But make no mistake, the speed bump alone should make it a much better experience. Those of us that actually rely on our phones for a living (as I do) see this as a very decent upgrade.
I'm sure if you were eligible for the 199/299 upgrade you'll get the new 3GS. Its funny how people downgrade the 3GS when its significantly better internally than the 3G iPhone. But to each its own.
I'm excited about my [faster] 3GS iPhone. You have fun with your 3G! Don't complain when the new app store applications come out and they don't run as smoothly on the 3G.![]()
Wow. You must not own the 3G that the rest of the world has. You must have a special one since you've decided to bash the one we all have.

What can that configuration do that a jailbroken 3g can't?
A compass and loading SMS in 1 second instead of 2? Oh and a clearer video! If I wanted a nice video I'd use my HD camera, not an iPhone. The camera on the iPhone will be used just like any other cell phone camera. It will do in a pinch to catch your friends antics.
Ha. Just the flip side, I think the people upgrading are trying to justify their $200-700 upgrade....I get it. But make no mistake, Apple will yet come out with another upgrade next year. It's either 2G users bummed about the nice 3G upgrade from last year, or 3G upgraders trying to justify their outrageous purchase.
Next year:
Dual core processor
More advanced GPU
512mb ram
hd oled screen
fm radio transmitter built in
....only on the iPhone Pro![]()
It's just someone who was stuck with EDGE on an old 2G phone. Trying to make the 3GS seem like its as good as the 3G upgrade.
Yes, because the developers are going to leave behind the 40,000,000 consumer base to create tons of killer apps that will only work on the 3GS. So naive.
No but realistically, does anyone need all this? It's the same to me. I don't even use the full 16GB's on my 3G, I use Wi-Fi mostly, don't even care about Bluetooth, and yes I can get video on my iPhone and some voice control. The camera is the only major difference and it is only one megapixel more. No big difference.

are you kidding?.. please how do you get voice control.. and the video recording with cycorder doesnt even compair to the new iphone with better camera
do you understand that your entire iphone will be SOOOO much faster with every single application.
the camera is NOT the only major difference do you even know anything about the new iphone/?
Ugh no. I sold my 3G iPhone two weeks ago on eBay. I had the first and second generation iPhone. Now, its time for the third one. I'm loyal to Apple.
you cant exaggerate HARDWARE.. its a 3mp camera with video recording autofocus camera. compass for better gps .. more RAM double speed.. faster internet... again you cannot exaggerate Hardware

In This Thread: Watch as people try to rationalize their "decision" not to upgrade, even though we all know "decision" should be replaced with "inability" because they don't have the money or aren't eligible...
Seriously, what is the point of these threads? To make the poor people feel better about themselves?
For a device I use constantly every day I wouldn't settle for last year's version unless I were a cheapskate or flat broke.

If that's the case, I sure hope you don't own a Mac. They constantly lag in the spec department (compared to PCs). You would probably quickly assume they are inferior computers.
It's probably best we get some hands-on testing before we exagerate the actual "speed" of the 3G S vs 3G. There may not be much of a difference. No one knows right now. I will admit though, the camera is nice. As for the compass...this really excited you, really??
you do realize that by doing this every year, you are signing a new 2 year contract? What if the inevitable happens? Apple decides to dump AT&T, and you are stuck with a 2 year contract. I dont think people realize even though they sell their iphones and essentially it pays for a new one, they still have to add 2 MORE years onto their contracts?
Now if the iPhone actually had more of a speed bump and more/new hardware features, i would upgrade, but i dont game on my iphone, and i dont take pictures with the camera. Oh and i dont need a compass, but if i did, i would look on cydia.![]()

You must be very loyal to AT&T too. It's not about the money for me. I just don't think the 3G S is worth signing on with AT&T for another 2 years. They have proved over-and-over that they do not value the iPhone customers' cellphone experience.
