I am perfectly happy with my iPhone 3G, just as I will be perfectly happy with my new improved iPhone 3GS. Make no mistake about it, the 3GS is a big upgrade, much bigger then the upgrade to the 3G from the original.

have you used the new iphone yet? didnt think so:rolleyes:

apple tends to exaggerate claims

exactly. i don't think the video will be like my camcorder. it will probably be better than most cell phones but come on, it will be slightly better than cycorder.

These threads are kind of interesting.

You have the people trying to justify that they need the latest and greatest, other people justifying that they don't.

In the end it's just a phone. We are not talking some life saving piece of equipment.

So it has a better camera, hurrah, 1 extra mp will make soooooo much difference won't it. If you want to take picture get a proper camera. If you want to take video get a video camera.

So it's faster, more memory, bigger hard disk. In reality the HD is way too small for me, I have 200Gb of music. And before someone says you cannot listen to that amount of music, the answer is actually you can, because you can listen to new stuff, old stuff, different genres, etc.

To the I want it now guys. Do you guys go out and by the latest mac every time they release, do you buy a new car every year as it has an extra feature, or a new tv. I think not.

Everyone have a choice, whether they upgrade or not. Some people do some don't.

So why bash people for their choices. If you want to show off to your friends that you have the latest and greatest iphone, that's up to you.

Personally I have a 3G. It's fine for what I use it for. I bought it payandgo, and if I wanted the 3gs I would buy that payandgo, but I don't need the extra feature. The v3.0 os gives me what the iphone should have had in the first place, so I will stick to that. And next year when the new one comes out I will have a look and probably get that one if I feel lie I need a new phone.

Just my 2pence worth. :)

In This Thread: Watch as people try to rationalize their "decision" not to upgrade, even though we all know "decision" should be replaced with "inability" because they don't have the money or aren't eligible...

Seriously, what is the point of these threads? To make the poor people feel better about themselves?

For a device I use constantly every day I wouldn't settle for last year's version unless I were a cheapskate or flat broke.

Trust me, money is not a problem here. 2 more years is.

As for people trying to justify their "decision" not to upgrade, this forum is full of people justifying their decision to upgrade.

3.0 will hold me over well until I'm eligible for the upgrade to 3GS. I won't be shooting video and don't need a compass. I'm happy with copy and paste and MMS! Would like the 3 megapixel camera now though...

I'm pretty happy with 3.0 but I would like the faster processor and reaction time on the 3G S since I am not a very patient person

Then pay full retail.

I very well could. But one of the reasons for my wealth (sorry if that sounds snobby) is having the financial smarts not to make stupid financial decisions. Buying a cellphone for $600 is idiotic and financially reckless. You can buy a high-end netbook for that price.

Even if I was eligible for the fully-subsided price, I would be very hesitant to sign-up for another 2 years. With AT&T, you are paying for the full iPhone experience, but are not receiving it.

exactly

just because one has the means to buy it doesnt mean they will just for the sake of saying they can

I'm upgrade eligible at the $199 pricepoint in January....i'll see how happy the 3.0 software makes me before deciding if i want to eat $200 and upgrade now. Although if i could sell my 3G for $300 or so i would totally do it. How much are we thinking the 3G can be sold for?

I was suggesting kas23 buy the phone so he/she could use it, not wave it around.

I agree $600 is expensive - blame Apple?

I'm good with my 3G phone. To be honest, the OS3.0 upgrade gives Safari a healthy speed boost and that is enough for me for now. The one area in which the 3GS will shine is in 3D rendering. But I don't play games on my phone. Call me a luddite, but I just can't enjoy games with these new buttonless, accelerometer and body-movement based control schemes. I need a nice solid controller with buttons and good grippy feel to it.

i dont think you quite get the point

its finacially unwise to pay a premium for the latest and greatest, even if you can afford it, if the current phone suits your needs

That part I agree with.

But I don't see anything financially reckless with someone who feels his/her 3G lags, but doesn't want to commit to another 2 years of ATT, and so he/she buys a no commitment 3G S knowing he/she can sell the phone, disconnect, or switch carriers at anytime.

I already have an iPhone to use. And it works very well. If I did buy a 3G S, it would be more for "waving around" purposes.

As for the retail price, I do blame Apple...and AT&T. The 32 GB Touch is $400. Do the extra innards of the 3G S really justify an extra $200? I doubt it. If they did, then they should allow an exchange program because the GPS and 3G chips are the same.

However, I think AT&T is basically forcing Apple to charge a ridiculous price for the unsubs phone. Think about it. Would anyone sign a 2 year contract if the phone could be had for $399 without a contract? AT&T's subscriber base would plummet.

You make it sound like the 3G S is going to eliminate all the lag the 3G currently experiences. This remains to be seen. Additionally, 3.0 may eliminate much of this lag anyways. Besides, in 6 months, people are going to be complaining about the 3G S's lag and continued dropped calls.

yes. mine ****ing broke and i got scammed out of a replacement. i'm quite unhappy with my 3G.

I think if you have a 2giphone that you should be more than excited, but if you have a 3g and obviously aren't eligible. why waste money. Att doesn't have the faster 3g towers out yet and im sure u can live w/o video. for 400 dollar just go buy a nice small video camera. I honestly sometimes forget i have my camera, but honestly when do you have to film something when your out! if your going on a vacation you would bring a real camera. I just don't see spending 400 for a faster phone! I know it has video and compass, which to me are the new "features", but i don't need that and i think most people can live without it. but if you have a 2g iphone then i say upgrade! but 3g, i dont see a point unless u have lots of money and then next yr wanna bitch about how ATT isn't letting u upgrade to whatever the 2010 iphone will be!

I don't think the 3G S is going to eliminate anything for the 3G. But if you meant to say I'm asserting the 3G S will be faster than the 3G - yes, yes it will. Faster processor, twice the RAM, improved graphics - I'm excited.

But your right, I haven't even touched the phone yet. Rest assured if, after I make a trip to the Apple store, the 3G S isn't anything special, I will agree with you; $600 is too much to upgrade from a 3G.

That's one of the most ridiculous comments I have ever read here. Your post drips of arrogance.

This is very much like last year where 2G users had to decide whether or not upgrading to the 3G was worth it. Some choose to upgrade. Some didn't. However, unlike last year, those who bought the 3G at a subsidized price now must pay an early upgrade fee. My main problem is why would I pay $499 and up for this year's upgrade when I know that I can get the next year's model at the subsidized price? That's a no-brainer to me.

I am happy with my 3G but I fancy that when I am eligible for my next HUP (in September this year) and assuming I am offered a decent upgrade price from Rogers, I might upgrade although I do think I will feel, at the back of my mind, that this would be a poor utilization of resources.

However, and this is meant with the utmost of disrespect, when I see the comments of a couple of fanbois, I think I must really be a sad case to be making the same purchasing decisions as they are.
