You're not the only one. Those large phones look hideous to me. I'd only like a larger screen iPhone if Apple does it by finding some way to keep the form factor almost the same as it is right now.

The Moto X with 4.7" screen is a very nice size. Super-thin bezels all around limit bulk.

I finally made the jump from a 4S to a 5S last week. While the bigger screen is somewhat nice for reading through websites, I absolutely do not want a phone any wider than this. I don't want to be tethered to my phone by having to use two hands just to operate comfortably.

My phone, to me, should be the device I can take out of my pocket, bang out a quick text message in one hand with a coffee or cigarette in the other and be done with it.

I've borrowed my sister's S4 before and I can't stand the large screen. Yes I could see more of a website in one shot, but I feel tethered and completely ripped out of my surroundings focusing on handling the device rather than it being convenient.

I'm aware that many people have larger hands or don't mind two hand operation, but for me personally, this trend of pushing phones into the tablet realm is really discouraging.

I'm glad I'm not the only one, hopefully Apple and other manufacturers will heed this and continue to offer a smaller phone option that doesn't have specs from a couple of years ago.

I've nothing at all against larger screened phones, just don't want them to be the only option available in the future.

Admittedly I don't watch films etc on my iPhone, but would use my iPad for that.

There's the rub.

People do not want to be carrying around two devices if they can find one to replace the two.

There there is the issue of having to have a cellular account for the two devices.

Put me in the group that desires an iPhone with a larger workable screen.

You will always have the puny screen option.

There are people out there complaining about the move to smart-phones and the companies still make basic phones for them.

People also dont want to carry around a brick. I'm in the camp the size of the 5s is the limit.

Yes, FINALLY someone who understands.
Why would anyone want to hold a phablet up to their ear when on the phone, it is stupid. WOULD YOU HOLD YOUR iPAD MINI UP TO YOUR EAR...NO
So why hold some huge galaxy note up to your ear???

There's this concept called "one-handed operation" that the phablet trend doesn't get. I don't want to have to do everything with two hands. It's a PITA and aggravating as hell when you're doing anything but sitting at a table.

One of the only downsides to iDevices is that you can't replace the keyboard. Being able to use Swype on an iPhone would be magical.

BIGGER does not equal BETTER.

I personally think Samsung phones look absolutely hideous (and cheap) in general but what makes them even more appalling is their size. When you hold them to your ear, YES, you look like a complete fool. Like someone earlier mentioned, it looks like you are holding a DVD case to the side of your head LOL. When you stick 'em in your pocket ...they are oversized and don't fit. They are super uncomfortable and you can't even sit down right without having half the phone stick out. (Don't try to deny this, I've checked out my friends Samsung phones). ALL for what? So you can have more screen to "play your games" and "watch videos"? Please.

Anyway, I don't understand why anyone would resort to having their cell phone be their main source/primary of anything (TV, computing, gaming etc.) Watching videos? I watch them on my home computer. Playing games? There's my PS3. Surfing the web? My laptop. ( and NO i don't have to lug around 2 devices ).

Yeah I used to be a size snob too…. I however have reformed and become a "bigger is better" guy. Not approaching 6" but 5" to 5.5" device would be great. Of course apple would have to keep the smaller option or people would freak. Personally I can't wait and believe a larger iPhone will be one of the best selling iPhones.

We probably would like a device that can do all that, but it will be a subpar experience on a small screen, whether it is 4'' or 5''. So I agree, I am not sure what's the fuzz about larger screens.

Sure, immediately when you get a 5'' in your face, you don't say no, but then again, does that extra inch suddenly make any task highly enjoyable to do on the phone? Probably not.

I recently reviewed the Sony Xperia Z for the Network i'm on in the Uk and found that the 5" screen pushed me to the limits i'd personally be comfortable with.

I suggest some of you should try handling the Moto X. By handling, I mean, hold it in your hand and use it. If there is a perfect size phone, the Moto X is it. It is very small, almost no bezel and it fits very naturally into your palm. 4.7" screen in a small form factor.

For me, the screen size of the 5s is perfect. But it really depends on your usage. Since I have an iPad I use that more for web browsing, twitter and things like that.
So for me a bigger iPhone screen isn't important. YMMV.

I welcome a larger iPhone. My hands are definitely above average size, and the 4" screen feels tiny and cramped. I've used larger Android phones and 5" is perfect.

I used to think larger phones were a joke as well. I finally got tired of my iPhone and switched to the note 3. After about a week I am wondering how I used a smaller screen. I loved my iPhone but grew tired of the os. My wife still uses and loves her iPhone.

I have larger hands and the note 3 fits perfectly. I can see arguments both ways for both having a large screen and a smaller more pocketable screen. Everyone had different needs and tastes.

This is totally inaccurate. The larger phones, Galaxy Note 3 etc actually get GREAT battery life... much much better than iPhones. Why? The larger housing allows for a larger battery and the battery drain due to a larger screen is not affected linearly. Take a look at the iPads. They get crazy good battery life.

Also, of note, what is bad with choice? Vendors make phones people buy. The problem with Apple has always been no choice but now they may have to alter that because other vendors are forcing them to. I think it's a win win for everyone.

Except DEVELOPERS, I hated the transition from 4S to 5.
All the apps needed to be made taller instead of larger, and it took developers a little while to get all my apps to the proper size.
I still have some on my 5 that are not updated yet to the correct resolution. Please, let's not give the developers another resolution to work with.
It irritates me so much, that people literally don't think about the users that are going to be left behind, when a larger screen size is going to appear on the market. If a developer desides to drop the 5S's resolution and starts developing exclusively for the 6's resolution, you're stuck with a 5S that doesn't get app support because it isn't the latest trend. This is exactly what I hate about android. Please a larger screen is fine, but I hope to god apple keeps the resolution the same as what they did with the iPads.

Things wil really go sour if another resolution is added, especially since the 4S is still being sold.

Anyone claiming the Samsung Galaxy devices get better battery life than the iPhone is out of their damn minds. Samsung devices are NOTORIOUS for horrific battery life, and as someone who's owned many of them I can vouch.

I had the Galaxy Nexus, S3, S4, and Note 10.1 (both original and 2014) and ALL of them had terrible battery life. The 5s and iPad (mine's a 3rd gen) stomp all over them in terms of battery. You can make a case that the Samsung devices have advantages over iDevices, and there are plenty like the IR blaster and the various Android perks over iOS, but battery life IS NOT ONE OF THEM.

And this is why the Android app store is such a mess. Devices have varying screen sizes and dimensions to work with, not to mention a wide range of processor speeds and OS versions. There are lots of AMAZING apps for Android, but it's a system where it's not uncommon for apps to only be really built for a small range of devices.

I don't know if its just me getting stuck in my ways, but I'm finding the current craze for huge phone screens getting quite annoying.

Admittedly the extra screen real estate is very nice but adds bulk to the phone and more drain on the battery, battery tech hasn't seemed to have kept up with the advances in other mobile tech. However I find screens much larger than 4 inches harder to use one handed, and find 3.5-4 inch LCDs are a great balance between usability and portability.

I see some of the larger phones being used for calls and think people look vaguely ridiculous, reminds me of the 'sidetalking' method of phoning someone on the original Nokia N-Gage!

Am I the only one that would like to see the premium models in a range include a smaller screen option, or are there similar like-minded souls?

I use a Note III as my internet device and also can use it for tablet purposes. Though I rarely use it as a phone. I use my iPhone 5c for calling. I suppose that's why I happily keep two lines. One has limited data the other doesn't. Both of my bills together are only $80, which isn't bad considering.

I disagree. I've got a huge Note III and it will last a pretty decent amount of time honestly. Now my iPhone 5c lasts a long time too. I'm impressed with them both.
