Well, if the rumours are through and it will be an almost bezelless phone, the iPhone 8 will be smaller than the iPhone 7 Plus even though it has a slightly larger screen.

One can hope. I like the size of the Plus phones, but man are they unwieldy and pocket-unfriendly.

Larger phones are here to stay. As someone else said, the manufacturers follow the money. Apple was very late to the large phone party as it was. Once they remove the ridiculous bezels on their 4.7 and 5.5 inch models, they won't be near as awkward to hold or handle. I've been used to a plus model for over two years now but I understand that its footprint is a little large for some people. They will still have a device that the overall size is the same footprint of the current 4.7 model. A 5.5 display would easily fit in that frame without the inch bezels on top and bottom.

I don't think a 5.5" display would fit in a device with the dimensions of the standard 6/6s/7. Remember, to maintain the aspect ratio th display has to be wider as well as taller, and there's not that much bezel at the sides to trim. I'd be happy if we can get 5.0-5.1" in that frame.

My GF is definitely miffed by the growing phones. She's 4'11" and just tiny in every way.

Her using my 7+ looks like a normal person with an iPad mini.

This sounds like my wife, as she is 4' 9". She has little tiny child-like hands and has trouble using my 6s Plus.

Actually, I don't like using my Plus iPhone one handed, and will most likely buy a smaller phone next.

If I have two hands on the 6s Plus, I love it, but one handed, it is almost useless for me.

Agreed. Can we wait until the phone is actually announced before we start whining and complaining about it?
Well, based on history, these rumors are true and it's definitely justified to complain ;-)

A 5.8" screen with zero bezel is essentially the same footprint as an iPhone 7. So in theory this iPhone is the 'smaller' iPhone.

I'm surprised the redesign will only come in one size. I suspect you will see a larger iPhone (all screen, perhaps say 6.5") in a year or two. At that point the 6/6S/7/7S form factor will be phased out.

I want something with the biggest screen possible that can still be one-handed. Unfortunately for me that means a phone btw 4" and 4.7", which Apple does not produce. I'm sticking with the SE for now, but I do get a little envious when I see someone Netflixing or browsing the web on their comically large phone -- it really is a significantly better experience.

4" and 4.7" are the sweet spots for me. I tried the plus model at my local Apple Store and couldn't justify using it on a daily basis. Plus, I have my iPad Mini 4 for whenever I need a bigger screen.

Well I get that there are lots of people that like small phones but I love phablets. Been using them since 2012 and I can't use anything smaller than 5.5 inches.

The regular 7 is too small for me. Even the S series of Samsung phones were too small for me after using the notes.

I hope there is an iPhone SE 2 this year.

There won't.

As least the smaller phone was king-of-the-hill for some time.

My first smartphone was the 6s and by the following year, Apple really set the larger phone apart (in capabilities). My time in the sun was much more fleeting than that many of you enjoyed.

Such is life.

For the first time i bought a plus iPhone and it's amazing but 4.7 iPhone is just easier and more comfortable to use so for the iPhone 8 I'm definitely goin back to the 4.7 specially if it's gonna have a bigger screen and less bezels

My thoughts exactly. The size of the 7 is perfect for me, I can reach all of the screen but it's big enough to consume content. The best way forward for me would be for them to just increase the screen size and reduce to bezel size.

I think it would be the size of the 7 plus.

If the screen is truly bezeless the iPhone could be 5.2 of usable screen with rest wrapped around edge. So it would be smaller than the plus yet larger than the 4.7

Hey guys,

Recent reportings over the past few months always say that there will be an iPhone 8 - but just a 5.5 or bigger version.
There will be an additional version (the 7s) which also includes the "small" iPhone (4.7).

But what the heck is wrong with Apple? I don't want to buy a bigger phone just to get upgrades!
Apple may continue to offer a smaller phone, they just won't let the model number be related to the new release in the same way that the iPhone SE has most of the guts of the iPhone 6S but doesn't have a moniker that relates to the 6 generation.

Also, I wouldn't base future purchase plans on rumors that you read on Apple fan sites like MacRumors, AppleInsider, etc. Most of the rumors end up being wrong.

In the end, the model name is pretty meaningless. What really matters is its ability to perform the tasks that you wish it to accomplish. I have one of the smaller phones, but who cares if it's an iPhone 5, 5S or SE? No one.

I have one of these smaller phones and all I care about is how it functions in my life.

How would that be possible? Please describe.
The diagonal measurement from corner to corner on the iPhone 7 is roughly 6". So if Apple releases a bezel-less 5.8" iPhone the footprint is more or less what we have with the iPhone 7.
