The diagonal measurement from corner to corner on the iPhone 7 is roughly 6". So if Apple releases a bezel-less 5.8" iPhone the footprint is more or less what we have with the iPhone 7.
But the screen would have to be 2.8" wide to maintain the 16x9 aspect ratio. The iPhone 7 is only 2.64" wide.

What is actually quite interesting is that Apple could fit the current 4.7" iPhone 7 screen on a chassis the size of the current SE. Thinking the 4.7" could be in a phone the size of the SE, and 5.5" on a phone the size of the current 7.

THAT would be truly awesome.

Still, there will be some bezels at least at the top.
And see here http://www.apple.com/lae/iphone-7/specs/

It's not 6, it's just 5,4
Actually the diagonal measurement is indeed 6.05" - The length is 5.44", the width 2.64" The only thing is, like I wrote above, that's not 16x9 anymore...maybe it doesn't have to be?

Assuming the rumors are true, there will be no bezel at the top. There is a rumor of a 5.2" active display. Given that we will see a virtual button, you are looking at the potential for a screen that lights up entirely with the very top and bottom (say .3" each) not being a part of the active display. At the top you will have say .3" that remains black and houses the front camera and earpiece. The bottom .3" will feature the virtual home button/bezel.

I don't know why you are linking me the specs of the current iPhone's. Corner to corner (from left top corner to bottom right corner, you are looking at roughly 6" by my measure). So if we really see a 5.8" bezel-less iPhone you are looking at an iPhone the size of a current iPhone 7 more or less.

I don't think going .16" wider is going to make much a of difference with respect to footprint.

I totally agree. I think what we will see (either this year or soon after) is a 5" iPhone and 5.8" iPhone. Both iPhone's will be bezel-less allowing the 5" iPhone to be roughly the size of the current SE and the 5.8" iPhone roughly the size of the iPhone 7. I personally would opt for the 5" bezel-less iPhone.

Yeah I'm praying for an 'SE' size upgrade too. I hope they take the 4.7" screen and package it in an SE size device. It's probably just wishful thinking though. We'll likely have to give up and get one of the big lumpy phones in the future.

Eagerly awaiting a 4" phone update. I want the SE to get 256gb+, 3D Touch, waterproofing, contact charging, ois, and better low light photos and video recording.

Someday in the future: optical zoom, and display folds out into an iPad mini size device? :D

I saw the article on the front page about the battery. Is this the rumor you are talking about?

Yeah it is. But latest rumors on 9to5Mac (by digitimes) say that it's gonna fit in to the 5.5 iPhone :/

i would love to buy the SE but its too long for me, why did they make it longer?
i wanna reach the top left with my thumb holding it in my right hand.
4s is perfect size, don't like big phones at all.

I have found that if you hold the phone with the bottom resting on your pinky you can easily reach any part of the screen with your thumb. This is with a case on -- might be hard to do with a naked phone.

Preach it, brother

Apple needs to give what consumers want for once!! Not just was drives up profit!

I'm on the verge of flipping Apple the deuce for the new Pixel later this year. Just hoping it looks 2x better than 16s model.. I want that unlimited Google photos storage

Why? Are they are charity? Do you think that Tim Cook is your friend? Apple is a company which has a goal of making as much money as possible, like every other company.

I don't think the screen will be 16x9, it will most probably be something like the new LG G6 (18:9 or 2:1 as some would say). The usable screen part would be 16:9 and the touch area with the virtual home button would be 2:9 (which is about the size of the dock). I just feel that that 2:9 part will be always showing in all apps and the 16:9 part will show apps they are shown right now so developers don't have to adopt another new aspect ratio.

SE is a great deal, and a cash cow for people who want a cheap unlocked smartphone, and/or a secondary iPhone. Apple delivered the goods and they win.

I wonder how much margin there is on those- probably 98%

Its one of the finer Apple purchases I've made and one of the best Apple deals, and it continuously messes with my head like should I go 4" or 5.5" today for my device, the luxury

I would poop my pants over a modern 'small' iPhone display,

I will have an SE sized phone until they aren't supported anymore. I tried the 6 plus and the 6s. Both were too big for one handed use and when you have a toddler, you never have 2 hands. I love my SE and people ask me about it all the time! Its like a novelty item and people think I just haven't upgraded yet. After about 5 min of use, it didn't feel small anymore, and when I use my brother 7 plus, I don't even know what to do with it. Its way too big for me!

The best solution would be 3 phone sizes - 4", 4.7 and 5.5. Something for everyone.

If they shrink the bezels, I would like to see the screen size stay the same...iOW, a smaller phone.

It will be small!!

5.8 inch but only 5.1 inch of usable screen

5.1 is still larger than the 4.7...not to mention, OLED will only be on the larger model.

OLED might not make it to the 4.7" in 2018...nothing is guaranteed.

At long as the whole phone is not bigger than the current 4.7" iPhone, i'm fine. My hands are small, I cannot imagine using a 5.5" phone comfortably with 1 hand, especially if it's going to be glass.

+1 for a smaller flagship iPhone. Yes, we want all of the features in the smaller SE form factor.
(also thought it was pretty pretentious putting the better camera in the +)

I stopped yearly upgrades with the 5S....was waiting to see what they would do....grudgingly got the 6S when it came out...and, no, I still don't like it, still prefer the smaller form factor.

Heh...and it's not just little people - I'm 6'3" and have big hands :p :)

Vote with your wallets folks...I'm not planning on upgrading this year.
