I don't think the screen will be 16x9, it will most probably be something like the new LG G6 (18:9 or 2:1 as some would say). The usable screen part would be 16:9 and the touch area with the virtual home button would be 2:9 (which is about the size of the dock). I just feel that that 2:9 part will be always showing in all apps and the 16:9 part will show apps they are shown right now so developers don't have to adopt another new aspect ratio.

Agree. My comment was made before the function row rumours came out.

That would be the most elegant solution.

I'm currently using a 5S as a loaner while my 7's screen is being repaired after my son dropped his iPad squarely on top of my phone, the corner landed smack in the middle and shattered the screen.

Been using it for a week and blown away by how easy this thing is to have around and use. Now I seriously want an SE, but will wait to see what happens here in the Spring before I do anything. If they give us an iPhone 7 spec-equivalent 4" phone with 128GB I will buy it immediately, regardless if the actual design remains the same or not...just don't do the plastic thing again...

If they shrink the device around the screen enough I would be willing to give it a shot. Currently their 4.7" model is as large of a phone as I want to carry around.

I would try using a smaller case on my phone but assuming its 1000 dollars....I don't know. I'm overly protective of my stuff and at 1000 dollars I might become overly paranoid. Its going to need to be pretty incredible to command a 1000 dollars from me, OLED shouldn't even be mentioned, thats a dime a dozen in smartphones today.

Why? Are they are charity? Do you think that Tim Cook is your friend? Apple is a company which has a goal of making as much money as possible, like every other company.

Believe me, profit #s will go downhill if this new iPhone X(?) doesn't sweep the market off its feet. Apple hasn't done **** with their iPhone in how many years?

Luckily for them, Samsung screwed their hopes up on dominating the market due to their note 7 issue and that kept many to stay with Apple or caused droid users to try the iPhone 7 models.

Screw TC btw!! I u/s company profit is the #1 goal but have they listened to their consumers once? Nope

Apple is too large of a behemoth to nimbly move like we would like them too. Their #1 concern is to their shareholders and slow and steady wins that race. They need to maintain, not throw all their cards on the table. Apple needs to protect the iPhone since its their bread and butter. You're right they can't do nothing, but they also can't get too aggressive either.

Also I just coined a term, chasing the tech dragon. People like you (probably) and I (definitely) are becoming numb to smartphone tech. There is literally nothing Apple can offer short of an iPhone that prints cash that will sweep me off my feet. I think to a certain extent this is true throughout first world societies. No matter how good the next iPhone is it will get a ton of criticism, have new "-gates", etc etc. I predicting "price-gate" (can I patent that?) when people do cost analysis of the parts, and if it is a 1000 dollars they certainly will.

BTW For those that don't know Steve Jobs is the originator of "-gate" by using the term antenna-gate to try to make it seem like the iPhone 4's antenna issue was being blown out of proportion. I loved to hate that guy....

Listening to consumers isn't really practical. If they implemented everything we all wanted it would be a mess (much like certain skins of Android actually), unintuitive, and not what people really want. Consumers (as a generalization) want to be told what they want and why they need it. Unlike Tim Cook this is what Steve Jobs excelled at. He could make people think they needed this new toy and not only that they needed to update it every year. A CEO that says "I'm going to go thermonuclear war on this" is going to attract the masses. Could you imagine Tim Cook saying this? Could you imagine the expression of the major shareholders if he did! Haha. As close as TC gets is saying we have a patent on this and that blah blah yawn don't care.

+1 for a smaller flagship iPhone. Yes, we want all of the features in the smaller SE form factor.
(also thought it was pretty pretentious putting the better camera in the +)

Vote with your wallets folks...I'm not planning on upgrading this year.

Two points to make:

1.) It has nothing to do with being "Pretentious" that Apple put the better camera in the Plus model. It's a clear and evident marketing technique The Apple used that they want to maximize their profits into the more premium device, as any Company would do. Using the word pretentious is like saying, "That base model car I like came with Cloth seats versus leather, when it's a low tier vehicle." Point is, it's not practical to put The most high-end features into a lower end model. It doesn't work like that. And You do have to consider Apple does have shareholders, which they're going to appease them.

2.) And the quote that is used all too many times on here "Vote with your wallet" is completely redundant. We get it, you're not going to upgrade. But that's what consumers do every single year anyways, is a choose to upgrade or not if they have the ability. It's not like you're trying to convince somebody of something, because not every feature or phone will appeal to everybody. That's why there are multiple models to choose from. It's not like you're choosing not to support one specific iPhone because it doesn't appeal to you , when there are choices that will suit everybody differently.

1) "Premium" device, only because there's more materials put into it (larger), so that justifies it having features that the slightly smaller version doesn't? Not everyone wants an iPhad. I say it's pretentious for Apple to presume that more people are willing to pay a premium for the larger form factor. Solely the per-unit profit doesn't matter to the board and shareholders - revenue trending and overall profits certainly do.

2) The quote is redundant? Where was the meaning repeated in what I wrote? You're saying it's over-used in the forums, sure. Many of us upgrade every year. Apple not giving me (or others) what we want means that we won't be.
