Wow--people here are really hung up on this "pro" thing. Who cares--it is what it is. I think its a much more attractive product viewed as cool art tool than as a failed hybrid pc.

That seems to be Apple's focus. Make a good looking product that expresses Apple's art style and people will buy.

Seems like it has a best in class stylus and a lot of power. Sell the 32gb version as a competitor to the Wacom tablet?

I still don't understand why people want a desktop OS on a touch based device. How does putting an OS optimised for a mouse/trackpad and keyboard onto a touch screen make a product more appealing? Because you'll have desktop apps that will be a pain to use?

For the people that I have talked with who want that, none of them have had first-hand experience with a tablet running a desktop app. It is simply a case of "sounding great in theory". Those who have are less likely to want it.

They should have implemented 3D touch into iPad Pro. The fact that some people have purchased a new iPhone 2 months before they purchase their "pro" tablet and it has this feature yet the Pro does not (even though it has a stylus) is pretty ridiculous.

Running desktop OS doesn't make it more "pro" than a mobile OS. It's whether the OS boasts productivity features that matters, mobile or not. I am one of those who think iOS isn't powerful enough yet for serious productivity, but that doesn't mean Apple won't improve it to make it better. I, for one, would absolutely NOT want a desktop OS on a tablet. Just think of all the traditional desktop apps, none of which are optimized for touch, on a tablet. When you try to merge two operating environments there must be compromise.

About the app selection, I think that Apple is getting the message across and telling the dev to starting making pro apps for iPad Pro. As for the storage capacities... Yeah, they're being greedy.

I am ambivalent about whether the OS in a tablet is a desktop OS or not if it works. Your point about productivity is what matters.

I'm not sure i get this thread (mostly).

This thing is obviously more of a niche item then a regular iPad. If it doesn't fit your needs, no need to trash it.
What is the point? There are a number of uses for a larger iPad running a specialized OS, that's not Windows.

I really like Windows 10, but I'm finding it typically glitchy for what I do. Bugs me a bit

I dunno, the reviews say, the surface is a terrible tablet, better laptop, you can't have both worlds, choose.
The pro will sell bazillions,

Of course the Pro will sell. I myself am getting one. I just think apple didn't fully implement the concept. Microsoft got the idea right in my opinion, but I guess they didn't execute it well enough. The iPad Pro needs a more featured OS. It doesn't need OS X, but a more powerful iOS with a file system would have been nice. A grid bigger than 4x5 would also be nice.

3d touch is a joke--its very flakey on the phone. It not really a game changer on the tablet

"Pro" or not, I believe I will be more productive with a larger iPad. A split screen app in landscape on the iPad Pro will virtually be two portrait iPad Airs. I can mark up PDFs and Word docs, I can take notes on one side and have a full-sized PDF open on the other. I can have Keynote and Word open at the same time.

I'm an academic. This is how I make a make a living. At least in part. The larger size and the Pencil will help make me more productive.

And with increased screen size and capability (processor, graphics), I suspect "bigger" and more sophisticated apps will be coming. And FWIW, I'd much rather have a super low-latency stylus with palm rejection than 3D Touch (which, other than keyboard cursor control, I find fairly useless on my iPhone 6S).

Not everyone looking forward to the iPP is a Photoshop jockey.

It's Pro for Properly reading magazines showing two pages at a time, as well as properly allowing to draw with an electronic pencil.

the paradigm of an optimized desktop class OS not nice in a multi touch device is just that a paradigm

I'm looking forward to the iPad Pro. It will be a big help for me at work. I deal with a lot of scientific images and data sets that will be viewed more easily on this large display. It will also be a big help when I have to train people or teach them how to use our software.

It will sell, but it is the same price as a laptop so I'm not sure about the bazillions part.

Really? Many of the reviews I've read have said quite the opposite concerning the Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book. I also disagree with not being able to have both worlds: you just can't have both in Apple's.

Lol

So, while I appreciate that the iPad Pro is a larger tablet with a lot more power. What is it going to run that makes it "Pro"?
"Pro" is not a protected term, which leads to the conclusion that everybody defines it differently. What is so "Pro" about the MacBook Pro? The screen? Hardly. The 8 GB RAM? You can get that on an Air, too. The SSD? Standard nowadays. You see the problem.

Most other tablet in the class of the iPad Pro run desktop OS and desktop applications.
I have a completely different opinion. The problem I have with your statement is that you probably define that the iPad Pro is the same 'class' like the Surface or similar devices. For me, that's not true. Because – as you already mentioned yourself – they run desktop OS. And Windows 10 is hardly a competitor to a tablet OS like iOS. And if you're making up your comparison based on the price, a Porsche Cayman would also be a competitor to a big SUV. Which is obviously not the case.

Also the fact that apple decide to make a 32GB and 128GB is just a slap to the consumer. Why no 64GB? 32GB is barely enough nowadays yet you either have to get by with 32GB or pay big bucks for the 128GB.
Yes. This is a common problem in our capitalistic world. If you want more, you have to pay more. You have the same problem with other devices, e.g. the Surface tablets.

This product to me (purely opinion) seems like a money grabbing gimmick.
Isn't everything a money grabbing gimmick? Nobody needs an iPhone. Or an iPad. Or a Surface. Or whatever. But people want those. If it's not for you, don't buy it. I don't like the Surface devices, so I don't buy them. But I don't blame Microsoft for playing a money grabbing gimmick on me.

Problem is there is no eye catching feature that would make me upgrade from the air. Just a bigger iPad that's faster with more ram at s crazy price

So, while I appreciate that the iPad Pro is a larger tablet with a lot more power. What is it going to run that makes it "Pro"? It will still be running apps from the App Store (a lot of these apps still don't take advantage of the potential of the iPad Air 2.) so I really don't understand how it is "Pro" in any way, shape or form?

If you think the iPad Pro is a joke then you clearly do not understand the target market nor Apple as a company.

Do you actually believe that you have got it right and Apple have got it wrong? That Apple the worlds leading IT company, fortune 100 company, with all its knowledge, tens of thousands of personnel, and it's increadible wealth of expertise, would label a product "Pro" when it is not!

Apologies if this comes across a bit harsh

'Pro' is just a word. thats all. there are no rules Apple must adhere to in order to use it. it's you guys who are making the rules and dictating what should be.

if you think it's a joke then good for you. dont waste your time and money. simple as :)

others dont.

At first I was not fond of the pro, then after looking at the features I think it is awesome.

I agree only about the 32gb option, it should have been 256gb high end, 128gb for middle, then a 64gb should have been the lowest entry pont with better price. I think that would help move the product even more as it would be more attractive to casual buyers, yet would still make Apple a good profit.
IMO The prices and configurations should have been as such...

64 iPad Pro Wifi: $749.00
64gb iPad Pro WiFi+Cellular $830.00
128gb iPad Pro: $800.00
128gb iPad Pro WiFi+Cellular $880.00
256gb iPad Pro: $900.00
64gb iPad Pro WiFi+Cellular $980.00

IMO, it isn't a joke or just a BIG iPad, it has power beyond any iOS device, and most other tablets. Surface has great specs and features, but it's a laptop trying to be a tablet and while it can do that, it doesn't seem to do that super well; it's still limited by the poor battery life and operating system. Windows 10 is really, really great compared to vista, 7, and 8, (I can't believe i'm saying this... But I feel windows 8 was more of a tablet OS.)
But I'll stop comparing as I think it's like comparing a Chevy with a Tesla. (or Apples and Oranges)

The iPad Pro has a premium quality large 13" Display, Stylus, and keyboard features, the kind that rival not just the Surface but Sketching and Art tablets too, (Wacom, Cintiq, etc)
Also the speakers look great, and the CPU and GPU processors sound amazing.
I really wish it was 100 or so dollars less or had 256gb storage, but I think overall this thing sounds amazing. I still will have a difficult time with size, but other than that, I think this is going to be a great product.

It's marketed as being a HIGHLY productive iPad, Apple didn't say, this will make using a computer pointless, but rather the iPad will be able to do many more things than it used to, and be closer to full PC capabilities than before.
Its not joke to me, if anything it just has more refinement needed. lol :)

*stepping off soap box and heading back to corner... lol ;):)
