Am I the only person in the world that would like a SMALLER iPhone?

try reading a book on your iphone
then try reading a book on a 4.5 inch phone or a phablet

sure you can buy multiple devices but why spend the extra cash if you don't have to?

Goodness, who reads books on either of those sizes. Too darn small in either case. ;)

They can cut some of the frame size and it would be good for the future. Otherwise the size shouldn't go up.

I actually find the size and weight pretty much ideal on the 5/5s.

If I'm browsing the 5s is pretty good in landscape, as it is for reading an ebook. If I want a bit bigger I'll carry my Nexus 7 for those occasions, if I want even bigger I have an iPad 4.

If my phone was a 5" monster I wouldn't have the choice of having a small slim phone when needed, and 3.5" is just too small for lengthy browsing (I still have my 4 as a phone for when I go into a high risk environment).

I would LOVE a 2.5" screen. I could fit it in my pockets easily, and media consumption would be greater than ever. Let's all sign a petition for a smaller iPhone!

I'm not sure how media consumption and 2.5" screen compute?

How would you browse, watch a video or read an ebook on 2.5"?

Either get audiobooks or an iPad.
Reading an eBook even on 5.9 inch (that's the biggest I've seen) is awful.

Here, meet your nemesis...

My usual ebook reader is a Nexus 7 (new version). It's small and light, 7" screen and gives me the option to browse/email/watch films etc as well if needs be when travelling.

Well, one handed operation FTW, right???

I was being sarcastic.
;)

Hmmm ;)

I'd love it if they made a 4s sized LTE phone. I don't need a huge screen. I already run my 4s with the largest font (41 and I don't see so good). If I wish to browse on a larger screen I use the iPad, and if I need even bigger I go MBP. 9 of 10 times the iPad is more than large enough.

I agree with the OP.

Although in general, the population is moving towards using one device for everything, that doesnt appeal to me. For me, my phone is a portable, light (not in weight, in content...well i guess in weight too...) version of my computer, but first and foremost a communication device. I have the information i need at my fingertips and can do more intensive tasks on my laptop. If my phone became too big to easily fit in my pocket or hold/use with one hand it would no longer be useful to me.

Totally agree with the OP. This fetish with making everything bigger is just silly. Samsung is being ridiculous with their products.

On the other hand choice is a good thing. If people want bigger screens for their phones, so be it but I hope Apple stays with having smaller phones for those of us who need portability and functionality all in one.

I agree make a bigger screen iphone for the blind folks that need glasses and keep the current size for us normal folks.

Browsing on 3.5" is such a pain. I always felt cramped to see information. Especially on iOS 6 and below, where the url bar and bottom bar had huge gradient areas that were useless.

All I seem to see these days is people DESPERATE for some reason I'll never understand for an iPhone with a bigger screen.

For me all the skill is in fitting all that functionality and technology into a smaller thinner, lighter box. ANY tech company can put more things into something bigger with less experience.

But this clambering for bigger and bigger - maybe I'm just overly fashion conscious but when i'm out and about I don't want something huge in my pocket, I currently find the iPhone 5/5C bordering on the too large to be honest, it feels good in the hand, if slightly long and too long in the pocket. Id have happily stayed with 3.5".

Speaking of which id be over the moon if the next iPhone was 3.5" but half as thick and twice as light. Now THAT would be innovation and exciting. Id even take the current screen size or if they were to make the screen size bigger the device needs to remain no larger, so its just edge to edge. But thinness and lightness would be the key for me.

It just seems I'm in the 1% minority for this, a return to the days where smaller and smaller was better. Now its bigger and bigger and more ridiculous, that Sony phone rivals something from the 80's and its like holding an iPad mini to your face.

Having said that the US Phablet share is relatively small, so maybe its just tech geeks on forums that magically think a bigger screen size is the most exciting thing in the world - for me, I just take my iPad mini traveling when I need it, problem solved.

i agree with you. Between 1980-2007, the main design pattern of phones were to make them smaller and more portable. Since touchscreen smartphones like the iPhone have come out, the emphasis has been "bigger is better" which is historically an asian way of thinking (Samsung, HTC...etc). I think the screen size of the 5S is perfect, and when i switched from a 4S, the first thing i noticed was how much lighter the phone was, not that the screen was bigger.

A] i like being able to text with one hand
B] i like my phone being able to fit in my pocket.

I just don't see how anyone would want smaller unless you don't use your phone for anything other than calls and texts.

Games, web browsing, reading, videos are all better on a larger screen. The key is to find a balance between portability and usability and for me at least they are still leaning more toward the portability side so I would like them to go a little larger (4.5" would be ideal for me)

I also prefer the size of the 4s, only thing i'd like Apple to change and i've said it a few times, is remove the chin and forhead off the 5\s.

Of course not. It's a matter of preference and, like any other matter of preference, varies from person to person. Don't assume that popular topics (such as larger screens) means that everyone has that preference.

All I seem to see these days is people DESPERATE for some reason I'll never understand for an iPhone with a bigger screen.
Fair enough, I just don't see why anybody would want to read a book on a phone.

The problem with comments like this is that "I don't see" or "I don't understand" doesn't mean that others do not. Use what works for you. If you've tried the options and you've found what works for you then does it really matter what others use? There are options out there and nothing is one-size-fits-all.

a smaller device doesn't make sense.

it makes it harder to hold, harder to navigate the touch screen, harder everything.

i think what you need, op, is a smart watch.

also, lol @ the iPhone 5/5S not being portable already.. it fits into all pockets that i own.

wtf do you wear?

Not this again.

Smartphone with bigger screen offers much better content and app experience and if you ask me, that is the most important factor in smartphone. These are not just phones anymore.

And it will fit in your pocket just fine. I wear ONLY skinny jeans and ironically Galaxy S4 fits in my pocket better than my iPhone 4S ( I use both everyday).

But in the end it comes to people´s preferences. If you are casual user, you might be better off with small screen device. But if you use phone for browsing and maybe gaming, 4.7"-5" is the sweet spot.

I will be quite frank. You're wrong to prefer the 3.5 over the 4. But into the 4.5+ territory we are in agreement.

I'm sorry that you aren't receptive to new things but I took my time to buy the iPhone 5 and very much regret it. The form factor is delightful with one hand and I regret hanging onto the tiny brick that is iPhone 4S.
