I remember when i was 13. I thought i knew everything.

What type of coding language is needed to build iPhone apps?

Did Apple have any issues with the "iPhone" name itself? What company was involved? What was worked out so everyone was happy?

I doubt you know these things. Google isn't allowed.

So no, you don't know as much as everyone here.

I stand corrected, but at least now I know by NOT knowing these things I have a life. Haha!

And that was a big statement, and I doubt eveyone/anyone on here without an education from the Apple summer camp crash course knows that either 🙁

Ok OP, I get it. You're young, you have an iphone and you want to draw attention to that fact - by 'innocently' asking if you're 'too young', whatever the hell that means. Ok, thanks. Still don't see the point of this thread, though.

Also, detractors, I get it also - you have supreme knowledge of what a 13 or 14 or 21 yr old person should or shouldn't have because you yourself are so mature and knowledgeable as to entertain a 13 year old and the fact that he or she bought an iPhone. Ok, thanks.

See? I see both sides! 😀

I guess it really depends. I'm 14, and I got an iPod Touch when I was 13. I think I'm to young, just because I'm sure I'd lose it.

As to those who think a 13 year young for a cell phone, you're dead wrong. A cell phone is neccessary, as I can imagine a 13 year old is often away from is parents without easy access to a pay phone.

I think anyone at any age should have a cell phone.

It's the type of phone that matters. A 13 year old has no use for an iPhone. Seriously, why do they need a phone like that? Get them a RAZR or something. They can withstand some durability, and they aren't much to replace if it's lost / stolen / damaged.

It's like a first car. A 16 year old doesn't need a Maserati.

I'm confused why it matters if a pack of strangers will think you're too young for anything. Frankly, you're going to get a mixture of responses and none of them will be right I'm sure.

Some may say yes because:
You'll lose it.
A 13 year old doesn't need a cell phone let alone a high-priced phone.
A 13 year old doesn't need that much power in his/her pocket.
A 13 year old will only use the features to f' around.
A 13 year old shouldn't be able to use it in school so what's the point?

Some will say no because:
It's your present.
Your money (or your parents).
Your prerogative.
Your $600+ device to lose and never get replaced again (unless your parents do replace it)
You can take advantage of the features just as any other person who is older.

I mean frankly who the heck cares? You have it, enjoy it, and forget about worrying what people say.

I certainly don't think a 13 year old is too young to have a cell phone. As far as too young for an iPhone 3G, thats a tough call. My daughters had iPod's that cost $400 at that age, but the iPod is alot tougher than an iPhone.

My concerns would be making sure that you were careful with it, and working out how the data plan was paid for.

To me, it's a value judgement that is tough for an outsider to make...

Am I old for a 3G owner?

Ok, so I waited until July 12 to get one without standing in line for more than 15 minutes. I didn't order one off eBay for $630, without contract, which saves money by using your current sim instead of paying $80+per month so I wouldn't violate the warranty. It's my iPhone 3G, not my kids. And I got the 3G because I make a lot of money.

I'm not some doddering old fool that knows nothing about Apple or 3G and just wants some "cool new stuff", I think I know as much about this phone as everyone here, which is why I'm trolling this site in the first place.

So the real question: I just turned 47, am I too old to be an iPhone 3G owner?

Ps I'm typing this from my work laptop

It's great you were able to buy it, but isn't a 80 dollar contract/month a bit much for a 13 year old?

I think you should have a phone, but not a smartphone or pda.. a regular cell phone is fine.

but again, thats my opinion, enjoy it if you got it.

I agree, you are never too young for a cellphone; I bought my grandson a firefly cellphone and he's 7 years old. My real concern is the fact that the OP needs our approval. I'll leave it at that...😎

OP... I don't think you are too old for an iPhone. Nobody is!! The people around here just like making fun of the younger users. Don't take it personal. I'm only 17 myself. Enjoy your iPhone, & enjoy MacRumors.com 😀

i think your not young to have a phone but i think to have an iphone yes your young. just be sure that you wouldn't lose it..lol

Ha, I like that...

Yes you're too old! Go troll somewhere else, Grandpa!!! 😛

In all seriousness, best post of the night.

Oh yeah, just to stay in suit, typing from my 2.5G iPhone.

haha no I'm definitely not from Bpt. Stamford/Greenwich is more like it, but c'mon I know alot of kids who don't get cars from their parents for their 16th birthday where I'm from, you just got to look past the majority.😀

when you have to say " I know someone who DIDNT get a car for the 16th birthday," then you are DEFINITELY from the rich kid part of town where the kid who DIDNT get the car for their birthday is either made fun of, and outcast, or just not the norm.

You LAUGH at the idea of living in bridgeport and then point out that youa re from Greenwhich (where TOMMY HILFIGER LIVES for all of youwho are not from CT) Just to get an idea of the town that this kid lives in..

I bought it with my own money, how does it makes me a spoiled loner? I never said I got it to be "cool". So you know how to use a thesaurus, congrats.

Your spoiled because 13 yr olds cant work legally (Mexican?), so you didnt earn it, or pay for it. So Your own $ isnt your $ (Get It?). You didnt get it to be cool, why did you get it (U dont know)? If you ever ever ever have to ask in life thats your answer. I bet youve never asked if you were breathing.

Um..someone's a little angry? Ha, wow. You seriously just told a 13 year old, to " Get offline b4 ur the 40 Year Old Virgin. " ??
Some people amaze me. 🙄

/rant.

Be serious, I dont know how old U R, but i bet when you were 13 you werent asking rhetorichal questions about phones on the internet. He's 13 and already trapped. you can 🙄 but you agree

I'm 93 years old. Am I to old to own an iphone? I signed up for a 2 year contract and I hope I can stick it too ATT. They didn't know that I have no plans on fulfilling my 2 year agreement (Wink Wink - if you know what I mean) 😱

Just playin

I didn't just make this just to brag and I did do all of my research on this gadget. I'm also smart enough to know people like you jump to conclusions too easily and take youth for granted. Remember, you don't know me. I could be a relative of Steve Jobs for all. You know.

So you take my advice: don't go judging me, because you don't know me. I could very well know as much as everyone on here, and I do think I know more than you

/bltching

dude, I'm not joking about the" I was just like you" thing. When I was 12 or so I had a Sony Clie. I would ask you some technical question about the iPhone, but that wouldn't prove anything becuase you could just go look on the Internet. Why would being related to Steve Jobs mean anything? The truth is it doesn't matter if you know more then me, but there are probably a good amount of computer engineer on here. Also your acting really immature by saying you know more and cussing.

So the real question is why did you start this theard?

I am 17. When I went into AT&T I saw a mom buying an Iphone for a kid who looked no older than 14. He didn't even know what visual voicemail was, so I think that maybe he should know what he is buying(or what his mom is buying) and not just get it because its "cool". Also, my little sister who is 13 got an Ipod touch and I dont think she ever uses it because I havent seen it since she bought it. Therefore 13 is too young.

Oh and Im typing this on my Macbook that I got when I was 15.

oh and i have a myspace

Yawn. At that age I had a Corvette and a hot college girl friend, my own house with pool and pool girl, a tube stereo system and 8' tall speakers. I was a star in every major sport and had a mysterious supply of money. Damn good looking and smart, too.

And, I had a good imagination.

Man at 14 I was into shoes (Jordans and Nike). I wanted the best and to be the first. LOL. Not only shoes but the clothing to go with it. Forget the Iphone, girls would rather see you fitted up and looking fresh. LOL. Don't get me wrong, I would want a cool phone too. But $630 can get you a lot of other stuff.
