Hmm thanks for that. Nice that Michael Bolton asked for your number. My claim to fame is that I worked with Dougray Scotts cousin for a while........

who's dougray scott??

I did give him my number, even though he is my dad's age.. and he did call me and ask me to dinner, but before that weekend, he was back with nicolette sheridon and never heard from him again.. i cant really compete with that!!!

All of the people i worked with went to high school with John Mayer - Fairfield High. And they had their class reunion at the bar i worked at.. it was pretty cool, but John Mayer is a tool and has a GIANT head.

who's dougray scott??

Desperate housewives for a while.

Never heard of John Mayer (rightbackatcha!)

Did the Boltons Mullet not put you off?

I've just remembered another claim to fame. I once sat and had a drink with Eugene Kelly (ex of the Vaselines - Kurt Cobains favourite band)

Hmm desperate housewives.. which one was/is he?

Michael Bolton cut the hair a long time ago> I didnt even RECOGNIZE him. I thought he was some old douche would was hitting on me until a friend of mine said "Do you know who you are waiting on?!"

That bar was in Southport (near westport - richest of rich towns) so i saw a lot of celebrities in there.. my best story though, is that Michael Bolton (real last name Boloton) called ME!

I have a friend who actually DATED Derrick Jeter.. but shes going to be famous in her right.. she is recording an album in LA!! Keep an eye out for Bonnie Marie :)

anyways.. fairfield county is rich people heaven, and that is where the OP came from.

So you werent interested in the Bolton until you found out that he was rich and Famous eh? Poor Bolty, will he ever find true love?

Dougray Scott played Susans rich English Boyfriend who she dumped for the delfino bloke. Dougray Scott is actually scottish and his english accent was quite funny.

Anyway I see you are trying to get the thread back on topic by referring to the OP so I will let you guys get on with it.....

Ditto with a couple other threads - this one has gone on far too long, and I'm not helping by adding to it... but I just had to say this... original poster, based on this thread, you are too young from a maturity perspective... hence your misunderstanding: buying things with money you get for your birthday isn't buying things with "your own money". That's buying things with someone else's money. Ha ha. Your own money is money you earned from a discipline that you dedicate yourself to. No, that doesn't even include doing chores at home and getting an allowance - still not YOUR money.

This is why our youth are falling further and further behind with the rest of the world - and FAST. While our 13 year olds are concerned if they are too young for an iphone, when young jeezy's cd comes out, blah, blah, blah, the 13 year olds in India, China, Japan and South America are studying, learning how to run the family business, etc. In 10 years these kids in America won't be able to compete.

Sorry for taking the platform. Consider me stepped down now. Continue...

nope.. i was just trying toget my point across.

As for Bolton.. no i wouldnt have even GIVEN him my number had he NOT been Michael Bolton.. I WOULD have gone to dinner with him just so i could say I WENT TO DINNER WITH MICHAEL BOLTON.. but nothing else. I'm not interested in his money.. just like being able to drop his name.. the farthest igot was "michael bolton called my phone" Damn you Nicolette!!

Sean connery once phoned my house. Well it sounded like him anyway.......he said he'd dialled the wrong number but I'm sure he just wanted to speak to me.

and yes, I am bored.

I noiminate this for the WORST thread to ever go more than 1 page.

I am ashamed of myself for adding to it and for that I apologize.

But please make it stop.

Edit: I am further disapointed in myself for making this the 5th page. haha

How is this a bad thread? It is an insightful discussion that could help a parent make an important decision.

But I'm not gonna make an argument. You probably already have a bunch
of **** going on in your life. After all, you do have the white iPhone :p

Are you just assuming I'm from America ? I could be from Canada, England, or China for all you know. DON'T Assume all of todays youth is the same. I am not waiting for jeezys album to come out, I'm a NJHS student and part of the IB program at my school and I volunteer at St Vincents hospital where my mom works for community service because when I grow up I want to become an orthopedic surgeon. And I did get same of the money from my birthay, but I saved the rest of it because I used to do landscaping work with my friends dad, mowing the lawn and edging and all of that good stuff.

I'm from Florida

no one is assuming.. we all KNOW becuase you said you were from Fairfield COunty, CT and you also said teh Greenwich/Stamford Area.. WE can make our assumptions about that, and anyone know lives around there knows 95% of those assumptions are true

What the hell? When did I say I was in Fairfield county?

You have me confused with someone else, Im the OP if this thread and it's NOT about Stamford county or whatever

I will disagree to an extent here. A regular allowance tied to a specified set of chores can count as "earned" money -- assuming that both sides actually fulfill the requirements. It is a reasonable way to teach children how to manage money in a low-risk manner. If you blow your money on something and realize you can't afford whatever toy you were hoping to save for; tough cookies. The stakes are pretty low. If the kid is expected to do chores x, y, z and doesn't yet still gets paid it doesn't teach much. If they blow their money and still want something else and mom and dad buy it for them they learn nothing.

$600+ for a birthday is a gift, not earned. It is no different than if they had purchased the phone themselves.

I doubt there is any real need for a child of that age to have a cell phone and especially one so expensive. I certainly had no trouble not getting a cell phone until my senior year of high school. That is when I could finally comfortably afford one (the phone and the monthly bills). I seriously doubt the original poster is going to be paying the $70+ monthly bill by himself.

More importantly, why would one so young want to be constantly tethered to everyone else? When I was that age I wanted to escape my parents constant contact and run around with friends. If they are paying your cell phone bill chances are you need to be in constant contact. Bleh.

Obviously maturity is not solely dependent on age, but there is a strong correlation. The poster that mentioned that the more mature you get the more you admit to not knowing. In high school you think you know everything. One would think that being nearly done with my doctorate I would feel like I know everything, yet the opposite holds true. For every thing I learn I find there are many more I don't know. Think of your world view as a tree. At the base you can know pretty much everything because you are aware of so little. The further up you go the wider it gets, yet your ability to fully understand things doesn't increase as rapidly, so the number of things you know you don't know grows even faster.

I use my previous sim card and contract because it was from eBay without a contract, so I do pay for the bills but they are not $70+

i think this an odd thread as well and i'm not sure how i got sucked into it. i just don't think 13 is too young to have a cell phone. there are kids in 1st grade that have cell phones in the US. an argument could be made that kids that young might not be responsible enough to have a device like an iphone but it really depends on if they have and or use a computer, own an ipod, and or work a tv/dvd. really, i think we are over blowing this and this could just be a shill anyway trying to run a thread.

my daughter (5) and my son (3) are both more computer savvy than my wife (32). my daughter actually has to help her with what to do sometimes because my wife gets confused switching between Mac, Windows, and Linux. my kids do not. now i realize that maybe not every child is as tech smart as my kids, i don't think an iphone in the hands of young children would hurt. have you heard of OLPC. geez....it's cheaper and more efficient to give them an iphone already.

and my 5 year old daughter uses my iphone all the time (videos, music, etc.). she's teaching her 3 year old brother how to use it. i assume the risk and have the insurance to cover it. thanks squaretrade.

My 12 year old son has a White iPhone 3G like me as does my daughter (14 has an 8GB black iphone ) All of them are on a work contract which means I pay £100 pounds a month and we all get any phone we want!
I dont find any problems with this child and do not see why any one could dare write the things that they have written on this thread (I am disgusted and sorry to this child)

The 8GB iPhone 3G is the kids model, so you're fine. But you are definitely not old enough for the 16GB. 21+ for that.

CPW? That figures.
;)

OP is going to have a shock when he hears he's a "child"… :p
