Earliest

Which way of ordering will get me the software the absolute earliest? Amazon, apple.com, or Apple Store? Of course I know Apple Store is the earliest, but often they are sold out the day of.

What's the rush? Not to be a downer, but there's nothing wrong with waiting a few weeks to install, and finding out what problems people may be having.

Sorry about that, you're right, I didn't mean to come across as smug at all mate. :) It's just that people skim through posts so much or they don't pay attention to what others write that generally address their concerns, then they just post the complaints. My apologies, this is an exciting time, we shouldn't be offending each other. ;)

Thanks, no hard feelings then. :D

I totally agree. I'll probably buy soon after it comes out, but see what problems people are reporting. The issues with 10.5.0 were not a big deal to me, but the updates did improve things dramatically (and actually added features...!)

I've never had the same "problems" that others seem to always complain about with apple software (except July 08 iphone 2.0).

Don't want to interrupt the various guesses at how an upgrade copy of the OS will work, but if and when this appears on Amazon.co.uk, is there some sort of special prefix or suffix we can add to the relevant URL to ensure that purchases benefit MacRumors financially? Or maybe that is possibly for the American Amazon only?

I'm going to discourage everyone from jumping the gun here. Amazon always does "pre-orders" like this, and by taking them up on their offer you really won't get SL any earlier. For 10.5, I pre-ordered from Apple and it shipped the morning of the 28th I believe (definitely on launch day, though).

Also, when I installed leopard, like thousands of other people surely, I got the famous "blue screen of love". I think this time I'll wait a few days for the major, major bugs to be ironed out. I may even wait until 10.6.1, if I can contain my excitement :p

There's always complaining, isn't there? (Where is that mirror...) :) That doesn't make caution a bad idea. Aside from the problem with third party wifi cards in 10.4.2 (which only comes to mind because it effected me directly), I haven't had any update problems either. But since I use my machine for work, I am not the first to break the shrinkwrap on full-blown upgrades, not because of a lack of faith in Apple.

For instance, certain Adobe CS3 apps required updates for full 10.5 compatibility, some not available until several weeks after Leopard was released.

Incidentally, for Tiger users who want ILife/Iworks, it may just be best to get the Leopard Box Set followed by the Snow Leopard upgrade. I got the Leopard Box Set Family Pack for $130 off of ebay. Add on $50 for the Snow Leopard upgrade it comes to $180 for the family pack, $50 less then the straight SL purchase.

SL = Low prices?

Does anyone think SL will make the price of computers that come with leopard go down? (On amazon, ebay etc.) Maybe people will sell their leopard computers for less because they would not have the latest and greatest OS.

Quick question. Me and my wife will be upgrading to Snow Leopard when it comes out. Does the disc (29.00) cover both computers or just one?

All this talk of confusion regarding the upgrade is ridiculous. Software upgrade versions as opposed to full versions have existed for years. It's not complicated, it saves you money.

I'd imagine the upgrade disc is identical to the full version - apple have never had multiple versions of the same version of OSX - the upgrade will simply check the current operating system and only allow the upgrade/full installation if the criteria are met. This would be as simple as having 10.5 installed already, or a working copy of 10.6 already in place (for those reinstalling the system for whatever reason).

It's not complicated, it's not unusual. Good on Apple for offering an upgrade path to save us all money, and all the complaining idiots on the site simply need to get a grip. It's a software upgrade, or a full version purchase if you don't qualify for an upgrade - hardly reinventing the wheel now, is it.

Speculation and criticism of apple based on how you think this might be complex is simply ridiculous - they do know what they're doing you know - it's why they are a successful multi-billion dollar company.

So quit the whinging and either upgrade if you qualify or buy the full version if you don't. Simple.

Thank you! I said the same thing several posts ago and got flamed as if some of the complainers here don't want it to be that way. The upgrade path hasn't changed over the years, why should it be any different with SL?

We pre-ordered Leopard from the Apple site and it was delivered on Launch Day at around 10:00 AM. I seem to remember that it did not go on sale at the Apple Store until 6:00PM on the same day, so I would have to say that this route was the fastest.

On the other hand, we did experience significant problems with one of our Macs (and also some problems, less serious, on the other) that were later resolved with Software updates.

I'll probably pre-order the same way this time, but will wait to install for a bit . . . just in case!
