It should cost over $100 a year? I guess that’s one way to look at it.
Amazon hardware prices are not Apple hardware prices.
Apple could absorb that.

monthly
Alexa+ = $19.99/mo
Amazon Prime = $14.99/mo

1 year
Alexa+ = $239.88/year (paid monthly)
Amazon Prime = $139/year (paid 1 year up front)

😂

Don’t worry, Prime pricing will increase soon enough.

At this point they can afford it. I doubt many people are making full use of it at its current price, and they keep inserting ads into things covered by Prime.

Notice it will be “more proactive in making suggestions to users.” Suggestions is a euphemism for ads now.

Alexa is probably the most repeated word in our house. Haha I think the dogs believe their name is Alexa.
I have a Google hub in the kitchen, an Amazon echo we were gifted in the living room. I’m forever shouting the wrong assistant name at each thing. I feel like my Mum who would cycle through every name she knew before reaching mine to call me downstairs

Can’t wait to see users complain.

Remember, users always complain no matter what new tech comes about.

There will never be a software utopia.

Amazon claimed their brick and mortar grocery stores used AI to detect what customers bought. The AI wasn’t Artificial Intelligence. It was Another Indian outsource company with real underpaid people watching cameras.

non-subscribers can use Alexa+ for $19.99 per month

One of the silliest decisions Amazon could make, and I expect it to be quickly reverted as soon as they realize no significant share of their customers is willing to pay for 'AI.'

You would think that nobody would ever hinder the very thing that is supposed to make the buying experience smoother and seamless, but here we are.

That is why we should be able to name our assistants. So if I call Karen all day then all the Karens in the neighbourhood go mad.

Nope. Subscription fatigue is real. I already buy devices I’m not subscribing even if useful. Not for that kind of pricing anyway. Services like this should cost no more than $5/month. It’s not as easy, but I can pull my phone out and get the answers to my questions in relatively the same amount of time.

This is what Siri and Apple Intelligence should be, instead of crippled image creation or emoji that is ready to send 30 seconds later.

Apple missed the point.
What people want is an assistant, and the full list of things that Alexa+ can do is impressive.
More if you compare it to what Siri can do...

I hope that they change course soon and transform Siri in something useful to do things in your device and real life.
Not more gimmicks.
Apple has never truly listened to its customers, at least, not in the way that matters. For years, their arrogance worked in their favor, riding on the inertia of past innovation and an ecosystem that kept users locked in. But now, that strategy is crumbling. They’ve spectacularly missed the AI revolution, and the world is watching their once-unshakable dominance slip. It’s beyond embarrassing and it’s a failure of leadership. The stagnation is undeniable, and the only way forward is with fresh vision at the helm. It’s time for Tim Cook to step aside. I have Siri disabled, because it’s beyond embarrassing.

I think this is the beginning of the end for Apple. They are just too far behind. All it took was a couple of years for Apple to destroy giants like Nokia who just didn’t see it coming. Seems like this might be the same case

THANK YOU AMAZON!!!!!!

Having Alexa+ included in Prime was the correct move after hearing from rumors that it was add on subscription for all users. It makes the Prime annual fee more easy to swallow.
I wonder if you’ll still be cheering “Thank you Amazon” when they raise the PRICE of Prime, because you’d best believe that’s coming in 3, 2…

Amazon’s plan is that people interested in Alexa+ will buy Prime, and then once they lose interest in Alexa+, they’ll still stick with Prime because they got used to the other benefits. Alternatively, they can raise the Prime price to the Alexa+ price after a while, because clearly that’s worth it. Also, it dissuades existing Prime users from subscribing to some other AI assistant.

Makes me worry about an upcoming price increase to prime.
If there's a Prime price increase, I'm expecting it some time next year if they stick to their 4 year schedule

2014 = $79/yr to $99/yr
2018 = $99/yr to $119/yr
2022 = $119/yr to $139/yr

2026 = $139/yr to $159/yr ?

They're just testing out pricing. It's a way for non-Prime users to try it out at $19.99 and either forget to cancel or stay on the $19.99 plan and ultimately pay more than the Prime annual price, or try it for a month(s) and eventually upgrade to the Prime annual price.

And I'm pretty sure that they're only including it for free for Prime users as a way to test the market and usage. They'll claw back some features/capabilities and add an additional paid tier the way they did Prime Video.
