I agree that I expected a higher resolution display however, 163PPI is hardy "low resolution". The no HD movies or TV quip is also very misleading. While the screen isn't full HD, movies and TV shows are downloaded in HD and scaled to fit the screen. The iPad mini also has two distinct speaker holes on the bottom. So unless one is fake, Amazon is also wrong about that. Amazon also conveniently left out that the iPad mini has MIMO wireless.

About the price difference, take away the "Special Offers"(advertisements), add a wall charger(included with the iPad), and the price climbs up to $233.99. That leaves you with a $95.01 difference between the Kindle HD and the iPad mini.
I think the consensus so far is two grills and no stereo speakers. I think if the device had stereo (the only apple product with it?) they'd mention it.

More importantly, I don't think the ad was meant to be informative about comparisons any more than Apple's event was. It is a brilliant rebuttal to the iPad Mini, because for this form factor, the prices matter a lot. Apple has jumped down into the monkey cage, and now it is time to throw some poop.

If they wanted to dominate, they should have upped the specs or lowered the price. Instead, they opened themselves up to attacks like this, and I think they are not going to fare too well. The iPad market share is already dwindling, and the writing is on the wall.

Maybe next year Aple will get its mojo back and put out some more products that are unquestionably better. Until then, I think we should expect more ads to land solid blows to Apple's reputation.

Thicker, heavier, junky UI slapped over ICS, nearly worthless camera, most apps designed for mobile phones and a fraction of the apps, even at that. I wouldn't even choose the Amazon Kindle over a Nexus 7. And Gizmodo are just anti-Apple hacks.

I know some of that is purely opinion, but the key points are not. Apple meticulously designs and engineers a high end, complete experience. Amazon makes a budget tablet. Ultimately the consumers will decide and hopefully enjoy what they get.

You get what you pay for, Amazon.

We pay more for more and the best! Nothing less ...

Who cares? Miniscule speakers are going to sound like crap no matter what. Amazon, delivering crap in Dolby stereo! I can't believe they spent money to license Dolby and are even bragging about it.

I've got a Kindle ereader and love it. This is a high quality product. The Kindle Fire is also nice and well designed, though I don't own one. I was much more interested in the Nexus 7 myself,.

The problem for Apple is that the Amazon tablet is a kind of pick it up and play experience, which is perfect for a budget market, especially one aimed at kids. I think they should have played to dominate instead of tried to market the Mini at a premium price.

The iPad wasn't successful because it had a pretty design, but because it blew the competition out of the water, and comparisons were laughable. That is no longer the case, especially with the smaller form factor. I want to see Apple do well, but I don't think they will with old componentry and inferior displays.

The most important spec is the one at the very top of the lists, in large bold type. In fact, the first word is the most important spec.

I saw that tonight, too. I love Amazon, but this seems a little defensive, and dare I say pathetic.

Its funny. Reminds me of how cameras are marketed.

Advertisers say More Megapixels = Better. Pros know different. Sadly, More megapixels is worse in most cases, but consumers are fooled.

Amazon has more pixels, in this case it makes more of a difference than they do on a camera, but they are not the end all stat. And at 7" I wonder in practical usage what the difference will really be. Speed, design, and of course capabilities is what matters more. And in the mobile world, Apps = Capabilities.

Finally, Apple isn't charging a premium. Amazon is giving it away at cost. Apple doesn't want to give it away.

Love the infantile "it seems desperate" comments. This is exactly what Apple did during their own Mini announcement last week.

Wow..

You've seen benchmarks? Because that's a ridiculous claim to make, otherwise. I also like how every point but one, in Amazon's graphic, is saying the exact same thing, and the stereo one is just idiotic.

Almost as ridiculous as a 1024 x 768 tablet display released by apple in 2012, going into 2013.

I don't think this is desperate. As far as Amazon is concerned, it highlights the differences between the 2 devices.

LOL

They're hyping "30% moar pixels" and they neglect to mention the only camera on the thing is a front facing camera.

They neglect to mention that it's $214 without special offers (read: ads)

Forgot to mention it's 87 grams heavier and 3.1mm thicker.

Not to mention it's no contest in the amount of available quality apps

I'm not saying it's useless but "seriously?"

So when Apple compares the Nexus 7 and points out the iPad Mini's advantages, it's groovy. But if Amazon does the same exact thing to Apple, it's desperate.

INTERESTING.

I have no problem with the comparison. Like all companies, Amazon is marketing their product.

Exactly.

Apple did the same thing when they compared and pointed out advantages the iPad Mini had over the Nexus 7.

If the competition does the same exact thing to Apple, suddenly everyone gets sensitive.

Which thread I made? And what other guy? Explain?

And did Apple not point out the advantages the iPad Mini have over the Nexus 7? How am I trolling for pointing that out?
