I always wonder if this hurts or helps Apple.

Think about all the people who casually went to Amazon looking for a coffee maker, or basically anything other than an iPad. Now they're greeted with a full page ad comparing the iPad and Kindle Fire. I bet many people will get curious and checkout the iPad Mini when it launches Friday because of this ad. Its a lot harder to find a Kindle Fire to try out now that Walmart and Target pulled the plug because its just a free sales flyer for Amazon.

It does smack of desperation to me and diminishes the Amazon brand. Overall I think the Kindle Fire HD is much worse than the Kindle Fire in that it should have been much better a year later. I think Amazon's real competition is the Nexus 7 which is a much better device with more memory for the same money running full Android without ads. I don't know why Google throws away money like that. They were supposed to announce a Samsung manufactured Nexus 10 Monday. That will likely prop up Samsung more with Google subsidizing a ridiculously low price. Can't wait for Samsung to turn coat on Google and fork Android.

Are you joking? iPad mini is not SD resolution and can easily play HD movies and TV.

720p is HD. Sorry, but it just is... and always has been. That ad is blatantly false.

Please explain to me how a 1024x768 screen is able to display each pixel of a 720p video.

Let me help you: you can't explain that because it is physically impossible.

Hint: 720p is 1280x720

and lets talk about quality here to... My buddies Kindle fire split on one side not to long ago and got it replaced for free. So $200 for hard plastic vs $329.00 for quality aluminum... :D

Peeps here should take off their Apple hat for a sec and look at reality.

Kindle Fire HD is indeed with Better screen resolution and other specs at cheaper price. They might not compete in the apps department and camera but who lift up their tablet to take photo when you can use your mobile phone's camera instead.

It was just different purpose.

I went on Amazon to treat myself a new onesie and I see that they are talking bad about the Ipad Mini. It makes me sick to my stomach since I know that they haven't even used one. So what if there are less pixels, my eyes cannot tell the difference. NEWS FLASH AMAZON! The last time I tried to count pixels, I lost count at 30. They also claim that the Fire has dual speakers but it doesn't matter to me since I'm deaf in one ear. The Ipad is better because it only has one button. There is nothing to remember as long as I can find that button. Just reading their ad makes me want to punch a hole in the wall!

Amazon makes a $190 tablet and sell it at cost at $199
Apple makes a $210 tablet and sell it at $329 for a huge profit margin.

Both are acceptable business models. 1 will make much profits, the other 1 not so much.

I notice they says the fastest wifi of any tablet (31 Mbps), if iPad mini has the same wifi as iPhone 5 it will easiest beat that, I've had 43 Mbps on my iPhone 5.

So when Apple compares the Nexus 7 and points out the iPad Mini's advantages, it's groovy. But if Amazon does the same exact thing to Apple, it's desperate.

INTERESTING.
1) Apple shows a comparison chart showcasing how much better their product is vs Nexus 7 but omits showing the price.

2) Apple shows video to suck the viewer into the magical world only Apple can deliver

3) Apple then shows the enormous price tag

This is the exact same method Time Share sellers use yet somehow Apple is innocent and Amazon are the scumbags?

Apple did this at a keynote in front of press and investors not on a public website like a desperate little child.

I know it was streamed live but no body would care about watching unless you had an interest in Apple tech.

Huh? Apple spinning a story to mainstream journalists who then print these one-sides comparisons in their news stories isn't desperate?

Apple rarely (never?) needs to go the route of direct product comparisons so let's not pretend that they were being noble when their entire announcement model consists of Hand picking specific journalists an publications that will write the story that they are dictating.

oh dear.

----------

Did Apple even say it what Android tablet it was? I don't think they did.

Tbh, both companies showcased only some differences that highlights their product favorabley. When Apple compared Mini to Nexus 7 they "forgot" to mention iPad has worse screen, worse processor and much higher price. Now Amazon is "forgeting" to mention the ommision of rear camera, thicker and heavier form factor, and much wider bezels making the screen look really tiny.

It's called marketing. Each of them will highlight only good features, and remain mum about everything that's not so much....
