This thread is utterly pathetic.
Pages upon pages of people arguing about consumer electronics. Have modern lives become so meaningless that this is what animates heated discussion?

There's a difference between discussion technology and what is going on in this thread.
Pretty effective commercial honestly. I know how much better the iPad is on... well, on everything, but to the average consumer...
Let's be real guys ... you can't downplay the value proposition of getting 3 Kindles for the price of an iPad. I think Amazon is smart to play this angle since it puts some perspective on how much money you are really spending.
That's ok, the iPad can't perform like a single Kindle at e-Reading. Different devices, different functions, for different people.
[...] I mean, I could probably buy 100 book for the price of one Kindle, but you don't hear us talking about it all time.
Amazon is farking stupid. Why would you want to carry around 3 diffe
Yeah, the iPad isn't restricted to one single source for your materials.
And while yes right now there's a sun issue, who knows what is about to happen on that front.

What is the point of going on vacation if you are just going to read..
4 people sitting around reading and watching movies in front of an beautiful beach...
you know whats more expensive than a kindle? a wasted vacation reading
Because their point isn't YOU will, but your family will. No fighting between the kids over who gets to control the iPad, they each have their own Fire.
In that regard it is a smart move, but they could have made that point without calling out another product. Once you do that then you open up folks attention to the other product as well. You give it free advertising. Bad move.
Calling out the other product in a negative light, also a bad move. Makes companies look petty and like they are afraid of the competition.
I still don't get it. Why would they mention the iPad in a Kindle commercial?
...it's a KINDLE!!!
That's like, "You know, I could buy one thousand slices of bread for the same price as that Kindle."
It doesn't make sense.
You do realize that competition is good for the consumer don't you?
Apple 'destroying' the competition doesn't 'win' anything for you. (oh wait, let me guess - you're going to claim you own thousand of shares in Apple....)
Look at the iPhone. A lack of competition resulted in trivial updates like landscape keyboards, 1 MPS camera and MMS coming year late. A perceived threat by Android led to the iPhone 4 sporting an HD video camera, retina display, etc.
The best thing for the consumers is for Amazon, Samsung and others to keep pushing Apple (and each other) to innovate.
No, the fact that Range Rovers are bad trucks with poor reliability makes the Kia Rio a better car.
You could have picked a better comparison, like a Honda Ridgeline or Toyota Sequoia.
And you speak of Mannors ?
Actually I think YOU are being too sensitive. You took what I said and twisted it.
The "I am a PC, I'm Mac" ads employed, very successfully I might add, both of those supposed "bad moves"...how do you make the case that something is a better value/fit than something else if you don't at least imply what that something else is? It makes zero sense for Amazon, or any other tablet maker, to pretend the iPad doesn't exist....
This was a very good if not brilliant commercial....
The "I'm a Mac" campaign did not involve a specific PC device.
When you mention, let alone show a competitor's product in an Ad, you've already lost.
When I buy an iBook - I can read it on my iPhone and iPad. That's it.
When I buy a book from Amazon, I can read it on my iDevices, Android, Computer, etc
Restrictions come in all shapes and sizes. Pick one that works best for you
