Anyone pay attention to how very young-looking Mom is with two 'older' kids in the background? ;) Savvy and cool Mom ...

Honestly I think this is great, Amazon gets the customer far better than Google/Samsung/Motorola etc… they’re providing a decent product at a good price. It’s been nice having Android around on the phone, just like Windows on the PC, every once in a while they come up with a feature that’s quite cool and Apple copies/implements a better version of it. Having a legit product that overlaps some of the iPad’s target market will be good.

Dennis Miller used to do a bit about buying things solely based on deals like 2-for-1:

"Hey folks, two of crap is still crap. If they really wanna screw you they'll give you three of these things."

Ah back when Dennis was funny, I miss that guy. And for the record he stopped being funny before he took his right-turn, it was the summer of '94.

Amazon is farking stupid. Why would you want to carry around 3 different products when you can carry around one that does the same thing.

Wasn't the whole point of the last 10 years of digitalization to minimize gadgets and make things simpler?

Following their logic I should ditch my iPhone and carry around a basic cellphone, laptop and a pager...

Oh come on. Really? How could someone possibly be made to feel bad for owning an iPad?

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_0_1 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9A405 Safari/7534.48.3)

Very smart marketing. The mom reading in peace while her kids are entertained is priceless. This is a strong angle to play for parents.

For singles not as powerful. You get all the power in one box.

Amazon is basically saying two fires and a kindle equals one iPad which is probably pretty close to the truth.

I think they are appealing to a wide demographic. Not everyone needs/wants the power of an iPad nor do they want to SPEND the money for an iPad.

And you have to be pretty small minded to assume that Amazon is saying buy 2 fires and a kindle for less than an iPad explicitly. The OBVIOUS connotation is that you can get a Fire (for example) for a lot less than an iPad. Period. And that if you have a family and a budget (which is a lot of families) - then instead of buying one device to share - you can have a few for the same cost.

Since people here like analogies - you can buy a 6oz of Matsuzaka Beef and it will be amazing. But to share it with several people isn't practical. Or for the same money - you can buy a few porterhouse steaks. Still a great cut of beef. Not at all the same as Matsuzaka beef. But your entire family can have a great meal.

This commercial is effective because it hits the right demographic with the right message with the right benefits. Many people will enjoy their Kindle Fires (and kindles) just fine for what they need them for.

Not to mention - I think she lied to the guy to get him off the seat!

She says it is for her husband, but I didn't see a ring on her finger!

LIAR! :D:D:D:D

One option is being overlooked here.

Rather than trying to decide how many of each tablet to get to satisfy your reading needs, people could consider reading books on... books.

Paper has an ultra-high resolution screen, it works in sunlight, has infinite battery life, can be loaned to friends legally or displayed on a shelf, and it doesn't make you look like a douche. I'll keep my tablet for internet use, not prolonged book reading.

I have to admit - its factually correct and thats how most people think (i.e. its good marketing).

The iPad is amazing but its not untouchable. Lets see how the iPad 3 deals with the competition. I honestly think apple are going to HAVE to bring their prices down though to see off the competition though. The fire is an OK piece of kit for the price.

I saw this commercial last night during Modern Family. It's an interesting attack, but I don't know if I like the whole "you need two Kindles to get the whole experience" kind of thing. You're going to buy one or the other, not both.

I like traveling light. I could not imagine having to go through the TSA checkpoint with a laptop plus 3 Kindles. I will stay with the iPad ( wait - I don't have one yet for personal use). Will be getting my first iPad for personal use with iPad 3. Sorry Android - but I prefer the stable and more elegant solution. :D

Man, people love to make digs at Apple. So, I have to carry around three separate devices just in case I want to do something the iPad does? Oh, shewt, I could show you my portfolio, but I left my other tablet at home! Whatever helps them sell stuff I guess. Works for some, not for others. I know what my choice was.

i believe the point they were making is that three people can use three devices simultaneously.

Really? You think the takeaway from the commercial is that ONE person should have THREE kindles?

Missed the point entirely.

You claim to be a car nut and think the Merc is value for money? haha.

Much more than a POS like the Land Rover. At least Mercedes has the reputation of making a solid car that will work forever if you take care of it. Hell, Mercedes Diesels never die, ask a friend of mine from high school that had a POS old Mercedes that was a junker (not cared for and allowed to go to crap and really dang slow) but kept going (She really wanted it to die, she hated it. If nothing else getting that car to accelerate was a chore. It was a 70's Diesel though, I think diesel cars have come a long way since then in getting performance out of them).

A lot of people seem to miss the point of the ad. Its aimed at families. Why have everyone fight over one iPad, when everyone can get a device they can use for the cost of one iPad?

Sad...

Does anyone else think it's sad that the kids are in some amazing, tropical location and are sitting in a cabana playing with electronics?

Also, not many people are going to buy both their kids iPads. Kindle Fire is for kids, iPad is for adults? That angle might work except for the fact that the few kids I've talked to who have played with a Fire like their iPod Touch better.

Smart ad otherwise though...

why are you all so biased toward sapple products? the ipad is horribly overpriced, just like every other apple product available. amazon is merely pointing that out. the kindle isn't as feature-laden as the ipad, but there's a few reasons i have a playbook, a fire, and the original kindle and not an ipad. the largest reason is that i bought both the playbook and fire for about $450. and i bought the original kindle over a year ago because i actually read books on it, not just play angry birds and read esquire magazine on a anodized aluminum slab. stop being fanboys. appreciate products for what they are, not who they're made by.

i kinda love how they made the iPad user look like an idiot :D and im an iPad user

and that "i have an kindle fire for that" is so apple haha love it. this ad is viral gold

I like the gratuitous emasculation of the guy at the end. Message: Buy an iPad, don't get laid. That's advertising!
