I have to admit - its factually correct and thats how most people think (i.e. its good marketing).

The iPad is amazing but its not untouchable. Lets see how the iPad 3 deals with the competition. I honestly think apple are going to HAVE to bring their prices down though to see off the competition though. The fire is an OK piece of kit for the price.
Thus far, iPad has been dealing quite well with the competition. You're getting far far far more with the iPad than you are with the Fire. The whole customer service, software and build are huge factors where Apple remains untouchable, and gravely so when it comes to the iPad.

The woman is not reading on a Kindle Fire. She would have the same problem as the man have with the iPad.
Apple has nothing to worry about. They will drop the price whenever it makes sense to them, not as a panic-driven strategy.

They forgot to ask the kids to come out of the shade to show the Kindle Fire off...or are they trying to mislead general consumers that Fire is good in daylight at watching movies? I suppose it is a clever advert if people believe this ad.

I also noticed how Amazon conveniently placed the kids in the shade. I also think it is interesting how Amazon keeps advertising the Kindle Fire as the equal of the iPad for less money. Just look at their website for more proof of that. This ad also casually infers that.

I have to say I like this ad :D :D

I have to say I like the Mom, she is smokin'.....:p

I'm not saying 3 Kindles are better than an iPad, BUT, Mom can read her book while the kids are each also occupied; hard for a single iPad to pull that off.

The REAL question is: why aren't the kids playing in the pool rather than using Kindles in the cabana? That's what's wrong with kids today (dagnabit).

It's a great ad, and also illustrates why Amazon is doing so well. Great products, and not over-priced like Apple. And amazingly enough, you don't have to wait in line like a fool to buy one. Good job, Amazon.

Dennis Miller used to do a bit about buying things solely based on deals like 2-for-1:

"Hey folks, two of crap is still crap. If they really wanna screw you they'll give you three of these things."

I really do miss the time when he was actually funny.

People should stop comparing Apples to Kindles... They're both good products with their own purpose and target market. There's pros and cons on both sides and which one is "better" depends on the individual's situation. I personally own both an iPad and a Kindle Fire. Yes, I think the iPad gives a better overall experience, but I much prefer to take my Kindle Fire along when I travel. First, the smaller size makes it easier to carry around and second, I wouldn't feel as bad if I broke or lost a $200 device compared to a $500 device.

bought a Kindle touch for the sun

But always prefer to read on my iPad (1st gen)anywhere indoors or in the shade.
I have to give Amazon kudos for an excellent iPad app (and iPhone app).
Their kindle store's ability to keep track of your page location between iPad, Kindle and iPhone truly makes picking up where I left off so much better than iBooks (where I am generally locked to only an iPad).

Having everything in one device (iPad; email, web browser, videos) makes me favor the iPad for all my kindle title reads. Only when I know I want to read in bright sun, do I consider thinking of bringing out the Kindle.
The absence of backlighting on the Kindle forces a person who doesn't read at the pool all day to buy a cover with a backlight. The lighting isn't even from these lit covers but they do work.
If you are going to need these coveres, you better budget those cases along with your Kindle purchase when pricing against the iPad.

I'm not sure how effective this ad is.

1) Kindle Fire still doesn't have the utility of an iPad. You get what you pay for. A Fire is perfect for many, but it's not an iPad substitute and dangerous for Amazon to sell it that way. A lot if Fire buyers have discovered this out.

I think it would be smarter for Amazon to present the iPad as overkill and the Fire "just right," you know kind of like goldilocks.

2) People are clutter adverse these days. One is greater than three -- although I think people that want to read need a b/w Kindle, Nook, or Sony Reader in addition to an iPad.

Geez and here i thought that waiting in line for a product meant people are actually excited to buy something.

I like Amazon's marketing here. It plays to the strengths of the devices. In this case cost. Sure the Kindle Fire isn't as good as an iPad, but it can do a lot of the same things for a lot less than an iPad. And the Kindle as an eBook reader is pretty much untouchable. It's the best (dedicated) eBook reader you can buy.

Compare and contrast to Samsung's commercials. While they do show off some features that are different (better ?) than the iPhone, the commercials come off as condescending toward iPhone users.

Most companies would love to have dedicated fans like this. Sure you have the crazy Black Friday campers, but the last single devices I recall people lining up for were the PS3 and the Wii. Apple gets people to line up a few times a year.

Smaller size: harder to read Letter-Size documents.

Mobility?: The Kindle Fire doesn't support 3G Data, so unless you are near a HotSpot, you are in-communicated.

Worry about loosing or breaking your iPad? Get Accidental Damage/Theft Insurance. It's about $60/year, cheaper than taking pills to calm down..

Yeah, and I could buy like 3 Kia Rios for the price of a single Range Rover. That totally makes the Kia Rio a superior car, right you guys?

How many people in the world needs a Range Rover? They both essentially do the same things, I'd go for the Kia Rio and save myself some £. I have no need for a vehicle which can do off-road stuff.

Well, they're both considered tablets, falling under the same market, signifying the everlasting irritation of comparison. Competition really is such a drag, isn't it?

Great commercial

I like the commercials Amazon makes that takea jab at Apple, unlike the ones by samsung which I feel are downright stupid. Amazon takes these subtle but big shots at Apple competing on really specific points (sunlight, expensive), while totally avoiding mentioning Apple/or the competing product (iPad), a class apart from Samsung, which looks too stupid, loud and too direct, and in some ways free publicity for Apple :)

(I'm just comparing the commercials and the approaches by two competing companies, I have the iPad and still think it's awesome and beats kindle hands down expect the very points mentioned in the commercial)

I think Apple's sales figures would shoot down that claim.

The ad is accurate, though: 1/3 the cost for 1/3 the functionality.

well not everyone needs 384034850480 features, thats the point of the ad ... FAMILIE focused. i dont see why they cant co-exist. the "apple products are the best" thinking is so strange and i love my apple products but i also understand those who dont need all these features or just dont want to spent so much money, doesnt make them stupid or a bad product

Stupid ad...Kindle fire is just rubbish.

The right combination is 1 iPad, 1 Kindle touch and an iPhone!

On my train commute. iPhone and Kindle.

Travelling - iPad, iPhone and Kindle
