They didn't get it exclusively , it is just not available on every device yet

I bet dollars to donuts they had some kind of deal to be a timed exclusive...perhaps they helped develop it. What company with any kind of common sense would put an app out on fire tv before android, roku or apple? The install base is much smaller.

I don't care about Amazon anymore. They are seriously an evil company - the more I read about Amazon both from a seller stand point and as a customer, the more I dislike them. They also treat workers like disposable minions. What's really annoying is that they manipulate Prime Video content, so that movies you'd want to watch during certain times are taken off and only available for purchase. I noticed this with Christmas movies, for example. There were plenty of them available on Prime until of course Christmas time arrived.

I shop with them less, too. I found many of the products at competitive or better prices on shopyourway.com, with few notable exceptions. Plus, I get ridiculous amount of points and can pick up most purchases at Sears within the hour without even getting out of the car. I won't be renewing Prime. I'll stick with Netflix, Hulu and Vue for complete streaming package.

What Apple really needs is PS Vue App. Now that would be awesome!

PSVUE is amazing. I have it on my PS4. I get it during baseball playoffs and football season. it is great how you can get it when you need it. The interface is amazing. Would love to just use the apple tv instead of the ps4

The reincarnation of Top Gear alone is worth the prime membership to me. The Kindle is also by far the superior way to electronically read books and I have quite a large collection with them.

Just ran into a good example how shopyourway.com offers really sweet deals. They have the iPad Air 2, 64GB MGKL2LLA for sale at $494.99 with $54 back in points and free 2-day shipping for Max members. I get extra points because of the earned status (they go silver, gold and platinum depending on how much you spend each year). All that before any SYW coupons are applied, which there are plenty. Amazon has the same product for $519.00 and Best Buy for $499.99.

That's pretty typical, so it's hard to justify renewing Prime for me, even with the exclusive shows.

Here we are months later and still no app.

I just got an Apple TV yesterday after never owning one before and was quite disappointed to find there's no Amazon Video app (I just assumed their would be). Of course I can Air Play it through my iPad, but having to do that is ridiculous. Even if Amazon charged for the app, I'd be willing to pay it. I don't think it's ever going to happen though.

I haven't had Prime for a few months and don't quite miss it enough, but I still have some "purchased" videos in my library through Disney Movies Anywhere and some past giveaways, so I wanted to see how well airplay works with the iOS video app…

A movie was playing just fine through my phone to television, in HD and looking fine, and I wondered why so much stress for an ATV app if anyone has an iOS device.

Then I was scrolling through Twitter on the same phone that was airplaying the movie, and all I did was scroll past a Tums ad. Suddenly the sound of laser blasters at the beginning of Force Awakens is interrupted by people very obnoxiously and very loudly singing about acid reflux on my television and noooow I understand.

It also gave an unsettling but fair representation of what airings of Force Awakens on basic cable will be like in a couple years.

That was really funny :)

I solved the problem with the missing AppleTV App for me. I just canceled my Amazon Prime membership after they started to show advertisement before the videos (at least in Germany). I don't accept advertisement in a payed service.

So you don't watch TV? Or go to the movies? Buy a magazine? Newspaper?

DVR , and who still buys newspapers and magazines
Plex (bought iTunes Movies), Netflix, Websurfing with Adblock. Yes my Live is mostly Add-Free.
Adblock and dvr are not part of the original service. They are ways to circumvent ads. If you say you don't "accept advertisement in a payed service" then you are lying to yourself right there.
Also if you own a movie on disc or you go to the theater you will have ads.

He also does not drive a car and listen to the radio, see billboards, use a grocery cart at a store with the ad in the front, have any name brand clothes etc.

Girls, I said my live is mostly add-free.

I don't like ads which interrupt my workflow, like the Amazon Prime ads before a video or a overlay-ad at a website which I have to close by clicking on it.
It's nearly impossible to be 100% add-free, but I removed mostly every single ad in my live which is interrupting my workflows. There are some few exceptions, like the youtube ads at the TVOS or iOS App before the videos which I click away after 3 secs. But those ads are blocked at least in my webbrowser :) But after google is a free service, they are very rare and I can cancel them after 3 secs I can live with them in iOS and TVOS.

And no, I do drive a car but I don't hear radio. I have all my cool music on a SD with shuffle :) (And if you look at my avatar you could suggest that my music is not available on radio :) ).

Ads before movies on disc are the reason why I buy new movies only via iTunes and remove the DRM for my Plex Media Server (and it's much less time-consuming than ripping a movie from a disc :) ).

Allright? Can we go back to the original subject of this thread? Blame Amazon for not publishing an Apple TV App? :)

They could easily still just do a player like the do in iOS. They want people on their products and not apples hardware. Simple as that. If everyone else is paying what apple requires and makes money is it really not acceptable business terms when you are one of the very few who aren't agreeing to it?

Depends on your position. Amazon has more clout than others. Personally, I'm on Amazon's side on this. We have quite a few Apple products at my house so I don't hate on Apple. I just don't understand why people are so quick to rush to the defense of Apple in situations like these. They're killing it in profit whereas Amazon is barely turning a net profit. One of the companies is gouging you, the other not so much (but maybe hopes to someday).

There's no side of Apple's to be either for or against. This decision is entirely up to Amazon on whether or not they choose to release an Apple TV app. Amazon already has an iOS app that can AirPlay to Apple TV, so what would Amazon lose by releasing an Apple TV app?

I'm not sure to be honest but when a business like Amazon that notoriously takes substantial loss leaders but is unwilling to do that on one specific platform it makes me believe there's something there. I doubt it's just a hardware issue either since they are making their money on content with razor thin profit margins on hardware.

Step back and look at the much larger picture.

This is not Amazon positioning about selling the AppleTV or Chromecast hardware, which is relative peanuts to these companies. And it is certainly not about their capability of creating a piece of software that will run on the AppleTV. Of course they can do that, in fact it likely is done and "sitting on a shelf" somewhere waiting on a large contract signing.

The much greater concern for these massive companies is the long-term revenue sharing models that will bring billions upon billions of dollars in the coming years. This is a negotiation playing out, and Amazon's refusal to sell the AppleTV and Chromecast is nothing but a negotiation tactic.

There is much much more to come, and I would not expect it to be hashed out quickly.
