Who cars about Amazons profits? Amazons not going away any time soon.

People use the term "game changer" all the time. I think we might be looking at one.

I love Apple products but let's face it, Amazon has just upstaged them. If the are introducing a mini, it better be great and competitively priced. Also, unless the price for going over the 250 megs/month (which granted, is small) is outrageous, that's a reason to buy right there. Who the hell needs the $30/month the other major carriers charge.

We'll have to wait and see, though.

Amazon are good. They've been good for over 15 years. Ahead of the curve more than once. Yes, we could see something here. In fact, thats what i said one year ago when the original Fire was launched. I would like my position if i were Bezos. Amazon have a good shot at dominating the lower end. A very good shot, indeed.

Question is, what is Google going to do. While they will probably do fine in mobile for at least another 5 years, they are certainly going to have a hard time gaining traction anywhere else now that the formerly sleeping giant is wide awake, getting ready for a full charge. Never count out MSFT. Stumbling early and winning from behind is what they do best. To speak Apple-speak: Its in their DNA. Heck, it is their DNA.

Depends. I really dont know how people use their devices, and what motivation Bezos et co had for including it. Obviously they didn't roll a dice, adding features at random just because. That would be the pseudo-equivalent to the broken window fallacy.

I believe it's a swipe at the iPad 3 which (at least to my recollection and recent google search) had wifi connection issues.

Haha, I'm watching the Quick HD Tour HD Video of the HD Kindle Fire HD and crying with laughter. I've only watched the first minute of it so far and the guy has said "HD" no less than 13 times. 13 in one minute. :D

Do I detect a hint of sarcasm there friend? :)

Sorry for the inflammatory comment but Amazon pretty much sucks at software UI so regardless of how hot the specs look I know it'll be a cluttered mess because most of Amazon's UI skews toward cluttered messes.

In their defence, they have had one product that had a sucky UI - the first Fire.

When the iPhone first came out, it's 'iPhone OS 1.0' software was crap.

Dont you think that given that they now have a much larger team working on this, and clearly a keen interest on owning the low-mid range tablet market that they would have stepped the OS up this time.

All I'm saying is, you cant base an entire companies rep on 1 product. If we did that then Apple sucks for giving us the likes of the crap iPod Hi-Fi, the Pippin, Newton, etc.

It all depends on the price of the RT tablet. If MSFT can come up with a $199-300 tablet, Google will have a lot of problems. Apple won't have many problems, because the fanbase is so dedicated, they buy most things no matter the price. I don't have that much money, unfortunately.

Several people here are revisionists. They have a penchant for eliminating anything negative from Apple's history.

No worse than Apple then. Off the top of my head, they have spouted out about devices beng:

- "Magical"
- "Only Xmm THIN"
- "Its just beautiful"
- "We think your gunnu' love this"
- "and how much does this cost? only..."

Its marketing crap, all companies do it - you cant base their credibility or the products quality on a video ;)

I'll be honest. As an Apple shareholder, the one company that I keep my eye on constantly is Amazon. To me Amazon is the single biggest threat to Apple's growth rate. The iPad mini and iOS 6 can't come soon enough.

You forgot revolutionary.

1) Why dont you use say, spotify, and have your playlists synced to your device?
2) If you know youre going to the airport (normally you do), why not set your device up before going to the airport? Free is cheaper than something cheaper than the expensive (and yes, airports are ****ing nasty when it comes to airports. Unless you have those carrier roaming hotspot deals... but not like they are free either).
3) Low quality porn?

Dude, what is your fascination with porn? You've referenced it in multiple posts. get out from your mom's basement every once in a while and experience life please.

I don't know why you won't accept that 250 MB is not for most, every, the average, a good number or many users. 250 MB is good for someone that checks email a few times a day and that's it. Try living in reality.

250 MB is roughly 8 MB a day. 8! I get emails that are over 8MB. So you're saying that "most" users should be happy with reading 1 email a day? Wow!

I bet you buy everything sugar coated at the grocery store and everything with bright bold advertising... I live in a place called reality and everyone I know that has a 250 MB plan on their iPad goes over it and most of those are housewives that are far from power users. The people that are power users don't bother with 250 MB plans. They also reside on planet sanity.

There is a reason Amazon is not telling you what the overages are or what the other data plans costs. It's something "most" people understand as marketing. They're marketing their service as cheaper than that of the iPad. If they showed overages and the other data plan prices smart consumers would see that the prices won't be so different.

Im not an American, so no, i rarely buy anything with a high sugar content. I take it you are though, given the ****** attitude that you replace your lack of arguments with. Furthermore, for Amazon to have any interest in slamming users with overages, they would have to have a reverse gainsharing in place. Which, compared to sharing revenue from Amazon content makes zero sense. Regardless if we look at it from a marketing perspective, a strategy perspective or a business perspective.

Also

1) I never said you needed to be a power user to go over 250MB in a month. I said you had to be one to "blast through 250 MB in 1-2 days". Stop trying to revise what the argument is about.
2) if all your ****ing friends and homewives always go over their ****ing 250MB limit. Why the hell are they still on that plan? Are they retarded or something?

P.S.

Wtf are the house-wifes doing out of the house? Or doesnt the wifi connection work in the kitchen? Maybe you can help them out? /sexist

No it's in relation to PPI and distance away from the eyes. 8.9 inches isn't much smaller than 9.7 so ideally retina would be 275 PPI or above.

It's 263 PPI for the iPad 3 vs 254 PPI for the Kindle Fire HD 8.9.

That's pretty damn close, probably in the realm of "you can't tell the difference" close.

Enough said.

First to address #7 - you're getting a good amount of cloud storage and pretty much $10 back. So if nothing else - it's more like $40 for 3GB of data and some extras.

But to the bigger point/all of your others - if Apple introduced this plan along with its iPad - no doubt many of the posters here would be CHEERING and talking about how innovative/smart/amazing it is that Apple negotiated such a deal.

20GB storage sweetens the deal but isn't game changing as the only time you can really mess with it is within wifi

I never said anything about Apple or the iPad. But since you went there, yes if you could get a bigger, better display with LTE from apple for $499 I'm certain most consumers wouldn't even look at the kindle. It's not that it's innovative or amazing. Amazon is smart, as this offering will definitely attract customers. But I'm not sold entirely yet.
