I love competition.

While I'm happy with my iPad, it's great seeing competitors coming out with product that doesn't seem like it was thrown together over a long weekend.

I agree, and I applaud Nokia for bringing TANGIBLE benefits to the table. I wish Amazon had followed suit.

Well, assuming the rest of the machine is up to speed, it makes it substantially faster to switch out your content library... which can come in handy if hardware size is limited. So, its not like faster wifi is completely irrelevant.

From Amazon:

If you need more data, additional 3 GB and 5 GB data plans are also available for purchase. You can sign up for a data plan right from your device.

Doubt it. Care to share some numbers?

Amazon announced a tablet that won't ship until Nov 20! Talk about premature.

I think these products will get caught up in the wash. That wash being the iPhone 5 next week and then in October there will be new iMacs and an iPad mini.

Amazon will do ok but none of this is really impressive until we see what other vendors do for the Holidays.

I don't need much data so that plan sounds awesome. Wish I could get that on my iPhone. Nice prices on the tablets, but still not interested.

Fair enough, a strong signal is a faster signal (until that's saturated). But that's a pretty weak selling point. Don't try and debate that please lol.

Also this:

Unlike some 4G devices, Kindle Fire HD includes support for 10 bands, so even when you're in a place with no 4G LTE network you'll fall back to the fastest available network and won't lose coverage.

Well considering that amazon has a digital media market comparable to apple, perhaps not the apps yet. and they released a tablet with competing/better specs for cheaper. a lot cheaper. amazon is a liked brand, and amazon is playing the game by apples rules, controlling the garden. come the holiday season, you will see the numbers.

Apple now have a double challenger. If they do unveil a new tablet, which is likely, it either must be really top notch with the top specs or a decent tablet for a decent price. The nexus 7 already challenges the new iPad, now this will also effect sales. If Apple do bring out an iPad Mini, I'd think they'd put the prices down to compete with this market of the smaller cheaper tablets.

Apple will not react this at all. They've already got their plans setup.

You think Apple would have made an iPad mini if no one else did? It's common knowledge that Jobs rejected the size initially and they only decided to make it now (presumably) because Android is making 7" tablets.

I find amazon's new kindles interesting. I don't think I'll ever buy one but if anything they can push the Apple prices a tad bit lower. The one thing that I would never put up with is this 'sponosored' stuff they do. The prices for the Kindles are usually quoted lower because they put ads on your screens.

The new Kindle HD 7" even says it'll now have sponsored screensavers and ads. I would never buy a device that throws ads in my face that much, it would drive me crazy.

I think the complete opposite, amazon knows how to market holiday sales, and NOV 20 puts them right inline to being the new thing for the holidays, the iphone 5 and the rumored ipad mini will already be a month or two old by then.

product age isn't when it's announced it's when it's released

Another thought I did have; Amazon knows the iPhone is due for announcement, along with (in the near future) iPad mini (or whatever).

Jeff decides to hold the event before to steal some thunder. Yet no devices are ready to ship. Same with nokia's announcement on the 920 & 820 lumia(s).

Someday, these companies will figure out Apples release schedules; and actually have a product ready for delivery before Apple.

:apple: will then of course change release schedules.:D

Thanks for sharing your amazingly valuable and informative opinion with the rest of us.

Do I detect a hint of sarcasm there friend? :)

Sorry for the inflammatory comment but Amazon pretty much sucks at software UI so regardless of how hot the specs look I know it'll be a cluttered mess because most of Amazon's UI skews toward cluttered messes.

Actually,

8.9 - 7.85 = 1.05.
7.85 - 7 = 0.85.

It is in fact closer in size to the smaller Kindle than the HD.

Actually, that's not how you measure surface area, which is what matters. It's height x width. If I had a 10" diagonal screen it could have a smaller surface area than than something an inch or two smaller.

They've already established that a 7.85" iPad mini would have 40% more surface area than the Kindle Fire (based on the rumored specs).

250mb/month?? That won't last you a week, much less a month.....

Please try and see the forest and stop looking at the trees.

250mb is a good deal of surfing at times you aren't near wifi. And that's $3.33 a month as opposed to when the iPad came out and offered the same plan for $15 a month.

Note: I am subtracting $10 from the $50 as you also get a $10 app credit.

Plus you can sign up for 3 or 5gb plans if you need more. And I would be surprised if they aren't the same exact rates that exist for ATT customers now.

So explain to me again how this plan is bad.

And that's enough for you to bet against the iPad mini, which hasn't even been announced yet?

Oh yea, well definitely see numbers this holiday.

I would not be surprised if the TI OMAP 4470 benchmarks are single threaded. Memory performance is down to single vs. dual channel. Though I am wonder if TI properly reflected DDR3's clock speeds. The say 532 MHz but I have a feeling its 1066 on a dual channel vs. 667-1600 MHz for the Tegra 3 on a single channel.
