No, I would not "of" been doing that. I just don't think 3D is useful for phones because it wouldn't provide any tactile feedback that we require to make use of inherently useful technology. Forcing features that the masses do not require, aren't cognizant of or will use after the novelty wears off isn't the way to proceed into the future of technology.

So, if you were presented with a mobile phone, that showed a 3D solid looking image, moving in realtime of your girl/boy friend standing on the screen, you could look around as if it was an actual miniature person standing there.

Or perhaps a solid image projected up in the air of a model of an item you were thinking about buying, you'd not be interested?

If they do a phone, they'd better not do the software like the Fire

Amazon would be better served with an Amazon Basics, pure Android phone - with Amazon Services installed on the first page - than by gimmicking up a phone hardware wise (3D).

Fire OS is an abomination. Makes TouchWiz look like "pure" Android.

Amazon's core business is internet shopping (shipped free and quick). How is an Amazon phone related to shopping.

....

The only way they sell close to a million phones a qtr is if the price is in the $350 range.

.....

Everybody wants to make sure they get eyeballs first. FaceBook tries to take over our phones with Chat Heads and screen options, and negotiated a deal so you can log into FB in the set-up screens for the iPhone. In contrast, Amazon has to buy space on carriers' phones ("buttons" for various Amazon services on the first page).

If Amazon builds their own phone, even if they use stock Android, pure Android they SHOULD be able to put their apps in the tray at the bottom - Android requires Google Services like GMail etc. to be installed, but I don't think - I hope - Google doesn't specify where the icons/buttons have to be.

So if Amazon can get access to the front row seat in the house, the bottom dock - that would be huge. Also turn on all Amazon notifications by default. Maybe turn off Google Services (Google Plus) notifications?

Yes, savvy users can download what they want, perhaps uninstall apps (but some tablets and phones don't allow you to uninstall carrier apps for example), move buttons around. BUT MOST PEOPLE ARE TOO LAZY TO DO SO.

Imagine a $150 Amazon telephone with 720p resolution (1280*800 on a 5" screen). Imagine the promise to keep up with all Android updates (how few phones and tablets have made it to 4.4 Kit Kat so far?). Imagine FREE Kindle downloads WITHOUT WiFi or cellular data - maybe even free access to Amazon shopping via their app. How about a hot chip instead of the slightly weak chip in the Moto Go?

Now the phone is a great phone. Now the phone is a conduit to Amazon.

Of course if they overdo it - like the lousy FaceBook phone - only Amazoneheads will buy it. I wouldn't buy a "Fire" OS overlay on an Android phone, not matter how gee-whiz the tech specs are.

I take it you have failed to follow the conversation. One of your fellow Apple fans made the comparison to Starbucks releasing a tablet, not myself.

Also, I didnt originally mention the Nokia making boots scenario.

Might help if you follow the conversation, rather then jumping in blind.

Nice try.
You said something stupid & got called out.
Fin.
Put whatever twist on it you want... jump to whatever conclusions you want... doesn't change the truth:
There is a HUGE difference between Apple making MP3 players & Nokia making boots or Starbucks making phones... whether you came up with it, or simply quoted it adding the line "what's the difference?", as if there is no difference, lol.

It kind of sucks that there is pretty much nothing these companies can do to get me to switch away from my iPhone.

I've had everyone iPhone since the first one on launch day and there is nothing enticing out there, except the next iPhone.

I have to wonder how you would know if youve onky owned one phone

----------

People say this all the time, but what I think is that more competition is really about these companies grabbing at each other's slices of the profit pie.

Rather than have these guys build the same thing as already exists (multiple times over usually), imagine a world where they built new and cool things that weren't the same as what's already out there, that the things they offered us in a new product wasn't the same device wrapped in a different logo, but something totally new, totally different, where choice meant options in different, not options in same.

The more competition the better

Not going to be enough production till Q2 2016. A8X for 2015. :apple:

I thought the X designation meant "the same chip, but with beefed up graphics"... At least it did in the two X iterations that I'm aware of, that both were souped-up graphics versions of an iPhone chip, optimized for iPad. Now w/ A7 having such incredible graphics- they discontinued the X chip, as there is no need to up the graphics from iPhone to iPad...
So.... just curious. With regards to your random guess (purported as fact) that the X series will make a comeback- are you thinking that the X designation will now stand for something entirely different than just a graphics bump, or do you believe that both the iPhone & iPad in 2015 will keep the exact same processor as in 2014, but with unnecessarily beefed-up graphics?? (I mean.... neither of those makes a lick of sense- but since you seem so sure, I guess I'd love to hear your reasoning, lol).

All of those cases represents a company entering a market in which they have zero prior experience. The only "fail" in this thread is yours.

Looks like it's time to upgrade from my FaceBook phone....

Ask any kid who owns a Ninetnedo 3DS...they turn the 3D off. Look at the sales of 3D TVs....they can't convince the purchasers to pony up another $200 for the 3D version. Now, it certainly is a gimmick. If they came out the holodeck technology, that would be different, but they are not even close.

I think the problem with the 3ds screen is the ghosting issue. If your not holding it straight it starts to get fuzzy. With the 3ds xl it is a bit better because the screen is a bit bigger. But the 3ds was made in 2011 and I'm sure glassless 3d and progressed since then. If amazon can make a 3d screen without it ghosting that would a success.

Thought I read some where that Google said they wished that Amazon would stop using Android lol......

Not sure If I remembered that correctly. It was in an article that also stated that Google wished that Samsung would tone done TouchWiz and that they didn't care for the magazine ux. Some one correct me if I am wrong.

Service?

Don't care so much about the 3D part, I'm assuming they are thinking more about 3D movies via streaming than just a phone gimmick. With or without 3D, this could be some serious competition for Apple.

I'm using Amazon Instant Prime more and more so buying things in the Amazon ecosystem is appealing. I also tend to only buy Android Apps from the Kindle Store instead of the Play Store. This could mark the first all-inclusive stack to take on Apple: phone, tablet, streaming device, streaming service, and store.

I love my Apple toys, but I don't love the $5.99 rental fees.

Really, serious competition? Who's going to service the frackkin thing? Sounds like a nightmare ownership experience to me. And, cloud synching with a Kindle? Wow, that's a nice ecosystem.

Who services other Android phones? The celcos of course. Hasn't hurt Android one bit. And Kindle cloud syncing -- how is that worse than iCloud syncing, esp. if Amazon doesn't charge extra like Apple does (5GB "free" is useless & an insult in 2014).

I'll be sticking w/ my iToys but I think your comments are unwarranted.

It kind of sucks that there is pretty much nothing these companies can do to get me to switch away from my iPhone.
I also feel like there is nothing these companies can do that's going to get me to switch off of iPhones, etc. But that doesn't mean everything is rosy for Apple and doom and gloom for its competitors, because Apple itself is trying really hard to get me to switch from its products. If they'd just keep doing what they used to do best (practicality, quality, usability), it'd be smooth sailing for Apple. But they've lost focus and cohesion.

I wonder where we would be if Apple had taken your advice before making the iPod, or the iPhone, or the iPad, or opening the iTunes music store...

Maybe these guys should have stuck to what they knew too...

Your advice is completely nonsensical.

Apple is now a media distribution and cloud services company - that a very far from being a "hardware" company.

Well, they certainly do those things. But the vast majority of their profits still come from hardware.
