Amazon has begun offering Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) for pre-ordering on their website.

Amazon first offered Leopard for presale on June 12th, a day after Apple's WWDC keynote announcing Leopard's new features. It is already ranked as the 51st most popular software item on Amazon (as of this writing).

Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard is scheduled to ship in October 2007.

like i'm gonna forget the day its coming out!!
and when it does get released, i'll just walk into my local apple store and grab one off the shell. no need to wait for a couple of days of shipment!

and the benefit of preording is what?
I never did understand these things.

Not everyone tracks Leopard's progress to a "T" like us...so it's nice if you don't have to worry about placing the order on the day it comes out. More of a convenience. Your credit card isn't even charged until it's shipped anyway, so it's really an advantage to the customer.

51. yeah sure.

It has so far been pre-ordered less than "Better Homes and Gardens Home Designer Suite 7.0".

Sure. big effing deal...

Must be nice haha. I still live in the middle of nowhere, so access isn't as easy  It's OK though...I like where I live...just means I have to wait an extra day or two for shipments!

I'll wait for a discount: IIRC Amazon typically offers new OS X versions for under $100, for pre-orders and then for a while after release. I got Tiger for $95.

Hah, all lies! Remember the iLife 07 announcement before MWSF07? You won't be able to get leopard any sooner from amazon than you will from Apple...I would only preorder if it was significantly cheaper!

I'll be buying my copy at the Apple Store. I don't know, I just like walking out of that place with a white Apple bag in my hand......it makes me feel powerful.......... :apple:

The only benefit to pre-ordering is you might get your copy a day or two before everyone else does. I got Tiger a day or so before it came out, so, that was slightly cool.

Smart play. Yep, a significant discount is about the only thing that would entice me to pre-order software that's still 4 months out.

I'm just wondering how many years before release Amazon will be offering pre-orders of Starcraft 2.... :D

Pre-order

This way, you won't have to remember to order it once it is announced. ;)

Although that was a joke, I did receive both my orders of Panther and Tiger 2 days before they hit the stores. But why would anyone pay full price at Amazon when you can get an Educational Discount from Apple at $60?

Mac"Rumors".com

really this story should be written more speculatively and hyped up a whole lot more..then we could consider it worthy of being on macrumors.

justttttttttttt kidding. but really..what happened to the good rumors..seems that all we're getting now is fact.

one more thing (pardon the pun)..ppl..do u really have to complain about every story. i mean..this is just some information about leopard being pre-ordered. really something to go "well big deal" or "who cares" about? lighten up peeps..lighten up.

i'm going to wait to get leopard via a install disc include in A NEW MAC...say...in Jan 08? MWHAHAHA.

same story here... Our ill-fated PB might not be fighting many more battles... I just hope it survives the trip to Italy!

*bring on the Penryn MBP*

Has anybody heard anything about the up-to-date program? Are the new computer puchases after WWDC eligible for free upgrade or is the cut date going to be some random 30-60 days before release?
