Has anybody heard anything about the up-to-date program? Are the new computer puchases after WWDC eligible for free upgrade or is the cut date going to be some random 30-60 days before release?

Most properly, october and WWDC are too far away from each other.

Great to see Leopard available, but I think ill wait...discounts etc.

Could there be something similar for computers? I want a Mac with Leopard in it but since they won't come until October and I need it for the end of September... or does Apple do a discount for people that have just bought their Macs with Panther? What has Apple done previous times? It's just sh¡tty that I have to wait until October to buy it since I'll probably have to go to Italy to buy it because I think that there are no Apple Stores in Slovenia :-/

Edit: Same question as JFreak. Anyone?

it's Amazon

If you go to 'best sellers' for software, and then click on the Operating Systems category it is #6 below XP and Vista - I think the overall list must really be the 'biggest sellers' for a more recent period of time (even though it is also updated hourly), but viewing by category it is probably all sales of the given item 'ever' through their site.

Who knows. I hope they have a 'family pack' again. It's such a great value...

I went onto the Amazon.co.uk site but could not pre-order. The only thing offered was to email me when it becomes available.... :(

No, that's OSX 10.4 Tiger which has been out for over 2 years now. 10.5 Leopard isn't on that list. (maybe it hasn't been added yet, or 'Best selling OS' only includes actual sales.)

Vista comes in on #3 on the best selling OS list, below 2 different versions of XP (and going to the Visa page still shows it at #37 or so on the overall software sales list).

7 Vista packages are selling worse than Tiger (which has been out for 2 years and comes free with all macs) and only 2 Vista packages are selling better...

51. yeah sure.

It has so far been pre-ordered less than "Better Homes and Gardens Home Designer Suite 7.0".

Sure. big effing deal...

Considering we have all summer to wait for Leopard. 51st is kind of cool. Now in October 51st would not be cool at all.

Though, I don't see why people would want to pre-order something so far in advance that will not be in short supply when it comes. I am sure Apple with print enough copies...

I'll wait for a discount: IIRC Amazon typically offers new OS X versions for under $100, for pre-orders and then for a while after release. I got Tiger for $95.

It says on Amazon that if you preorder and they lower the price, you get the lower price, so why wait?

Does one really need the family pack if you have say 3 macs?

Edu price is usually $69 for single version, the price is no different for family pack, $199.

Not that I don't think its worth it, man $69 is CHEAP for an OS!!

(And yes I qualify for edu pricing thx to the wife)

im guessing we won't be able to preorder Leopard Server from amazon, i don't see it... :(

Decisions, decisions

Leopard looks awesome, but I'm not sure if I'll get it when it comes out or wait to replace my iMac. My intel iMac is not yet a year old.

Who am I kidding? I'll probably get it come October!

Does anyone have any ideas about the pricing of Leopard in the UK?

Looking at the Amazon site it doesn't give a pricing

I'm assuming it won't be a direct currency conversion?

Damn, no pre-ordering for a family pack (5 licenses). I'm getting it as an early holiday gift for my family. I know they're going to love it and if it remains the same price as the 10.4 family pack it'll be the best damn deal still.

Well the announced price of $129 for Leopard is the same price as Tiger $129.

Therefore going by the same price, Leopard in the UK is going to cost £89 or £58.75 with HE discount (current Tiger prices).

There has been a recent trend of slight price reductions on the UK store to reflect the current exchange rate, so it might go for less, say £79, but i think it most likely to remain at £89.

Haha its now 3rd in Software...

Let's remember Amazon also listed what appeared to be iWork & iLife 07, then took them off.

And the funnier thing is all the books, some of which are already released....let's hope the Beta was truely a near final copy...otherwise David Pogue, might have to start over and some others might have to release "Leopard for Dummies, 2-The Non-Beta Book"

Here's what I don't understand.

Why are so many people pre-ordering this sucker through Amazon for $129 when a LOT of them are students and, if half the Mac Fans they think they are, they know they can get a nice, hefty educational discount through Apple, either in-store or on-line?

I just don't get it. You wait until it's available to order at Apple.com, go into the educational section (pick a school, any one. They never check smaller purchases anyways), and save yourself $30 or more!

A friend of mine who recently switched to Mac found out about Leopard yesterday. "so will this be the same price as Vista Ultimate?" :D

Everyone smiled for one reason or another that evening.

I guess one must conclude that the ~$30 isn't important to them. I mean considering that that's about 0.1% of a years worth of tuition for most I'm not sure that it's worth the wait. Just set it up now and not have to think about it as much later.

I'd rather get it the day it's released in-store. I realise some people have luck in getting the copies sent to them before it's officially released, but that wont happen to me, so I'll get it at the store/ reseller.
