Option (b) Thought that the OP he was quoting was suggesting only buying 1 $69 license instead of a family pack for use on multiple Macs and thought that there might be a lock-out if they were used on the same network.
Option (c) Your guess is as good as any other because it makes not much sense at all!
Option (d) Who cares?

He was talking about what happens if you use the same copy of office xp in the same location on 2 computers

Ship Date

Just placed an order at Amazon-interesting that the estimated ship date is August 13...?!

Could it be that Amazon's default pre-order system is only capable of projecting future shipping dates in 2 month increments? I don't imagine this to be a slip-up of an Apple 'early shipment surprise.' Although, this would be highly welcome, I'd prefer that the next four months be devoted to refining 10.5, and perhaps including some of the features held out, which might have not yet been ready for Prime Time.

Listen--I didn't mean to start a mess. $69, $129, or $199 for the family pack---they are all incredible prices for an OS.

Let me change the discussion to this: Leopard will be my first OSX OS upgrade. I was on macs back in the System 7 days and then was windows for a while. I am used to wiping my hard drive on a regular basis to eliminate crud from downloads and programs, etc... I was thinking I would buy a new hard drive and install it then Leopard on it and lastly move my documents over. My current 250MB doesn't have much space on it so I was going to relocate it to being a data drive.

Is this the recommended way to upgrade or would you just let Leopard migrate from Tiger?

Thanks!

Here's what I don't understand.

Why are so many people pre-ordering this sucker through Amazon for $129 when a LOT of them are students and, if half the Mac Fans they think they are, they know they can get a nice, hefty educational discount through Apple, either in-store or on-line?

I just don't get it. You wait until it's available to order at Apple.com, go into the educational section (pick a school, any one. They never check smaller purchases anyways), and save yourself $30 or more!

Are you saying you can get the ed discount in the physical Apple store? I've never really thought to try even though it's just a couple of miles from my university, who carries a pretty poor selection of software. :/

We usually just order the family pack since we have four Macs, although I'm not sure I'll be upgrading more than two since I'm getting ready to sell the mini, and we keep my wife's old iBook under Panter to run classic games for the kids.

#1 it is, wow in 1 day it outranked all other products in sales!!!

well another #1 for apple.

putting my order in now as I type this :)

Preordering

and the benefit of preording is what?
I never did understand these things.

One of the reasons for preordering is that many times on a very poplular product or one with limited quantity to be distributed, the quantity ordered may be greater than the quantity received on the 1st & sometimes even the second shipment. This will more likely mean that you will receive your order with the first shipment.

Apple will most likely strictly enforce the "Do not ship until official release," so I wouldn't plan on getting it earlier through Amazon. And, for those who've never ordered from Amazon before, a little "heads up" is in order, specifically:

"Free shipping" means a UPS delivery in two to three weeks. In other words: Don't look for it to be on your porch tomorrow. If you want it sooner, be prepared to pay for shipping.

It's most likely that Apple will sell it through its online store, and, if so, there'll be free FedEx shipping included.

My guess? Regardless of how early you buy it, a "patch" (OS X 3.5.000001) will probably be available via the Auto Updater the minute you install it.

:D

This is simply not true. I don't know where you live but an amazon purchase has never taken more than 4 days to get to me. Plus if you are an Amazon Prime member like myself, you get it in 2 days or less. I can't guarantee that it will ship before or on the release date but my guess is, a customer just can't have the product before, official release date, so they will probably be able to ship before the release based upon customer estimated ship times. I get all my DVDs and CDs on their release dates, I don't see how that would change.

I love Amazon Prime. I used it earlier this year to order a 2.33 GHz MacBook Pro. I paid $3.99 for overnight shipping, and less than eighteen hours later the MacBook Pro arrived. :D

is there any chance that we will see a preorder for mac osx leopard server? I doubt it since amazon would have put them both up at the same time but im just wondering what everyone thinks.

Although that was a joke, I did receive both my orders of Panther and Tiger 2 days before they hit the stores. But why would anyone pay full price at Amazon when you can get an Educational Discount from Apple at $60?

Yep. That's how I'll get mine. I don't want to pay full price either.

i'm going to wait to get leopard via a install disc include in A NEW MAC...say...in Jan 08? MWHAHAHA.
I don't know how much longer I can wait, but I'm putting off a Mac buy for my dad and his house full of grandkids, because we're waiting till the new machines start shipping with Leopard, if we can stand to wait that long. Grandads like him need to avoid paying that extra OS tax if possible.

Purchase?

Am I the only one who purchased just to see if it could get to #1?

When I woke up I saw it was 2nd (from the MacRumors article update) and decided to pre order just to show the support of apple.

I would've preordered already, but I may not be at my current address by the time of release

Funny how the dull thud people seemed to hear during the keynote has not stopped Amazon from getting plenty of preorders for the "uninspiring" Leopard.

#1!!!!

Bonkersness.

That's a serious achievement considering WWDC and not out until October.

Wonder if Steve has an account with Amazon? I'mguessingyes. ;)
