Not sure where you got this. Apple has allowed all Apps since the Apple TV 4 was release with an App Store. Much like on the iPhone and iPad. Maybe even before but there would have need to be much more cooperation from Apple.

Hey, maybe I missed something? please fill me in. Besides itunes which other apps on the Apple tv allow you to purchase or rent movies, in app?

I want a region free 203D with 24p apps and digital audio inputs.

I said any app can be on the Apple TV much like Amazon is on the iPad. It is up to the App whether they want to sell movies or rent tv shows there. Just like multiple subscriptions like Netflix, Hulu, HBO and much more allow you to purchase via iTunes on the Apple TV. Some like Hulu charge a bit extra to cover the cost of advertising with Apple but they still have the options. I do not think buying movies or renting TV Shows would be cost affective.

But the point was not wether they choose to sell movies or just allow you to watch the movies you have already purchased. Like VUDU. I think a lot of Amazon Customers that may use multiple devices would have no problem buying or renting movies on there other device and then watching on either the Apple TV or iPad or Fire TV or something else. Some people like to have multiple services and they may choose the one that has the best deal.

I personally buy all of my movies on iTunes. Others may login to Amazon.com and Buy Movies there for a better price or maybe they have other devices. It is not a big deal. But I never Buy TV Shows. I might Rent TV Shows at the right price. Amazon could offer some compelling reasons for me to login to Amazon.com (which I do all the time) and Rent TV Shows (seasons). Then I would watch all of my TV Shows on the Amazon Prime App. Of course without a Amazon App I would not even consider it.

One last thing. When I buy a movie via iTunes it is always on pre-order and then it just shows up. It does not matter if I pre-order on the Apple TV or on my computer. I would not have any problem with pre-order movies on Amazon.com and then the movies would just show up in the Amazon Prime App.

Ultraflix has their own store on tvOS. There are some more just can remember their names right now.

The road show promised Amazon Video later in the year for the new ATV 4k receiver. Any one know if the previous ATV4 will be able to run the "promised" Amazon Video app?

I've been waiting for the native Amazon Video app since before purchasing the Apple TV 4 when it was new.

I will believe Amazon Video is coming to the Apple TV (through something other than AirPlay) when I see it, and not a moment sooner.

To be sure, I'm not complaining. I have scratched my head over it a time or two over the last couple of years, but chalk it up to a game of chicken between Apple and Amazon over who is going to blink first. I'm not entirely sure that Apple even has eyelids at this point, and Amazon is in no hurry, either.

It's got to be about money. Amazon would reduce Apple's "take" from rentals/purchases. I don't really have a horse in this race since my Smart TV Samsung has a Amazon and Netflix app, but I would like to see an Amazon app on my TV screen with my ATV 4k model.

I personally now don't think this app is actually going to come out. Just more fake news rumors spreading around. Amazon really wants you to use there ad ridden Fire TV instead.

or buy an Nvidia Shield, PS4 or X1 ?

Sihield or PS4 are my only options at the moment. I refuse to use the iOS app and then Airplay the video to the AppleTV.
However, the PS4 takes too much time to boot. On the Shield, quiting the Amazon app is incredibly slow.

Did that too all three send back the Shield and X1 both Amazon apps were slow, unreliable and terrible. I have the PS4 still because well I always had PlayStation's. The best is to just use a Fire TV stick, box.

.......Or Roku, the most popular box.
