This was always a dick move by Amazon but if true it means one of two things:

1. Apple are paying Amazon money to get the app on store
2. Apple are definitely changing the way they handle revenue share for the App Store at WWDC, which indie developers need and was Amazons alleged primary bone of contention (beyond that whole "winning the battle for the living room thing")

option 2 would be nice. Especially with Apple now banging on about how they create 12 gazillion jobs in the US with X gazillion being developers working in the iOS ecosystem. It would be nice, but kind of un-Apple?

Am I the only one tired of this scam the content industry is running where random licensing agreements result in consumers having to pay for 10 different streaming services to have access to "everything" out there?

I am a customer of both. Everyone can be a customer of both. Why would you not offer your app to a streaming device that your customers use (Prime). lol.

As others have explained, it's because 1) Apple wants a cut of any media sold in-app by anybody else, and 2) ATV doesn't have a browser, so there's no way for the user to break out to buy a movie or show from Amazon directly.

There were no terms or mutual agreements. Apple doesn't need Amazon Prime...but Amazon needs Apple TV support.

I think it's quite the opposite. Many of us own multiple Rokus because ATV doesn't have Prime.

Not sure why I'm not able to find Comcast on Apple TV. I always have to logging thru an app instead of my cable company.

You dumped Amazon Prime as a whole or you just stopped using Prime Video?

Personally, I save way too much on shipping costs thanks to Prime to consider canceling it. It's worth far more than $99/year to my family. The Prime Video and other perks are just icing on the cake.

I actually got the whole prime thingy and thought that it will be useful to me only if I had the video. But without the tv app, I got disinterested and moved away eventually from the entire prime.

I think it MIGHT have something to do with Apple hiring the head of Fire TV.

And also Apple TV is doing pretty well at getting support from other streaming services, so Amazon Prime Video being absent from Apple TV might hurt Amazon Prime Video in the long run.

Apple's not sweating the Apple TV sales.

Jeff Bezos

"Hey we need negotiate better terms for Amazon Prime Video before we bring it to Apple TV"

Tim Cook (Pauses his Netflix video)

"Huh?"

Apple doesn't give a flying monkey's arse about Roku

So in the US you will get pretty much everything but in the UK we will, even with prime, still get pretty much the square root of Zero (no all4, no itv, no 5, no ukplay), and with the apps that are there not using the functionality the Apple TV has making it a pretty pathetic option.

If only apple would put this level of effort for content outside of the USA? Oh and 4K of course....

I dumped it last month after trying it out for a bit. I've no interest in their slow-burning TV shows. The film selection is abysmal. So many extremely bad films, and the good ones don't hang around v long. I favourited a load but when I came back to watch them they'd already gone from Prime. What use is that?

I find the LoveFilm service better value - or at least it was until they started getting greedy and now limit the discs to two per month - used to be unlimited. Still ok though for £4 per month.

Amazon Prime is cracking value though, you get the Prime programmes and films and some in HDR, not sure if some are 4K yet? Plus Amazon Music and Prime delivery and cloud storage from Amazon all for LESS then Netflix's HD only monthly subscription cost.

Nice. Now I might actually use Amazon Video app.

Be careful with what you wish for. You may get your wish and Amazon Prime would be introduced with Apple's 4k ATV..... three years from now.

4K schmore-K. 4K is like 3D. All smoke (for now).

Too late for me. I cancelled Prime (for a few reasons) and won't be going back.

This will make me buy an ATV. I have an 2nd gen ATV, but haven't used it in years. Went to Roku because I can get netflix and amazon prime video on it, and couldn't get both on ATV. I'm sure I'm not the only one.

i expect this will put a dent in Roku sales.

Bosch, Transparent, Man in the High Castle.
You forgot the best show ever, Sneaky Pete. Seriously...one of the best shows I've seen on any network. Also Goliath was pretty darn good and currently watching Fortitude and Hand of God. Not quite sure yet about Hand of God. It's got great performances but I'm still not sure about the story. I'm reserving judgement until I watch season 2.

I also enjoyed Goliath quite a bit.

Ooh, yes, great points! Completely forgot about that hire!
