Amazon isn't a trust (monopoly), though they are the dominant player in two of their markets. There are competitors in online shopping, online media and cloud services - Amazon's primary markets. There's competition in each of these markets. Feel free to use them.Hey! antitrust clueless people Amazon us raising their platform fees! Better get on it and cut that back!….I mean these “antitrust heroes” need to just please go away you are harming the free market. Unbelievable!
It would appear that the majority of objections here transcend the increase in price. If my finances ever reach the point that a $2/month increase is even noticed, then I’d have bigger problems to worry about.
There a podcast series called Land of the Giants that covers this really well. Basically they invest most of what they make back into themselves and their growth. They bring in such a massive amount of money that anytime investors start to worry, they can drop the reinvestment on Amazon for a month or two and post record profits, then when everyone is happy again they go back to fully reinvesting in themselves again. It is insteresting to know where Amazon get's it's profits from because everytime the UK tax regulator goes after Amazon for them to pay the correct amount of tax Amazon always responds with 'we made no profit this year'.
Money is power, always has and always will be and the Dutch have proven this to be true because they would have been fully aware that the boat would not go through the bridge once it's completed but still they allowed the boat yard to build the boat and the Dutch were not about to let an historic bridge stand in their way.
I wonder what more price rises Amazon will introduce so their boss is able to carry on buying bigger and bigger boats for himself.
As a Prime customer, I really only ever signed up with them for the ‘free two day delivery’, and in some cases one day delivery. But it’s reaching a point, where I don’t necessarily need things ‘next day’ anymore, and to keep justifying these price hikes, is not really attractive to me, when I really don’t use the likes of the movie service or the other services for that matter.
If you’re somebody that frequently orders from Amazon and you really need/want the two day delivery and that would exceed the value of your membership costs, then I could see this being non-issue for some customers.
As inflation continues to rise in other areas in our economy, I suspect that will force consumers to second-guess their renewal. But again, it really depends how much they actually utilize all the services combined.
Not sure what your point is, profit is why companies exist, customers choose to support them or not. Many flocked to Amazon during pandemic, worked great for me. Going forward I'm dropping Prime price shop and check stock locally. In US you get free shipping for most orders over $25 anyways. This is going to be replicated across many industries across the world because companies are not going to be prepared to take a hit on their profits. Any rises for the company, be it rent, utility costs, taxes, insurance, employee wage increases will all be paid for by the customer in the form of increases in the cost of the service that it provided to them. Amazon will increase their prices to their customers but you can be damn sure that when they are to produce their yearly figures it will show they did not take any hits on their profits.
I cancelled cable due to the cost and a large part of that was ESPN and other sports networks. When I cancelled Prime they had both added NFL and raised the rates. At this point I am tired of pro sports and view them as a complete negative. They cite the cost of the NFL contract in part. They should have made that an add-on subscription, but instead everybody has to pay for it whether you watch pro football or not.
I literally only have Prime for fast and "free" delivery and I'm sure I'm not alone in that.
I came here to read this , and I was not disappointed. The frog sitting in the cooking-pot... now feeling the heat rising once more. But it will continue to sit there... and sit there...
Get the $119 price before it goes up.. buy gift membership for yourself and set the date on it during purchase for 1-day after your current one expires. set current one to NOT renew automatically. At least we can put it off for another year... sigh Amazon.
Yes, companies should be able to make a profit so they can carry on existing, thats a given BUT there is a huge huge difference between making enough profit to cary on existing and making enough profit so they can be greedy. Amazon is being 100% greedy. Amazon could easily fund any price rises it faces due to economic instability and still end up being in profit but they and like with many others, they would rather get their customers to fund any price rises than for the company to use any of it's profits. There is profit and then there is greedy profit. A huge majority of the worlds businesses go for greedy profit and the muggins customers allow them to do it. 'Vote with your wallet' comes the cries and you know what, it never happens. Not sure what your point is, profit is why companies exist, customers choose to support them or not. Many flocked to Amazon during pandemic, worked great for me. Going forward I'm dropping Prime price shop and check stock locally. In US you get free shipping for most orders over $25 anyways.
Why have one when you can have two at twice the price?Oh you didn't know? His boat has a boat. (I'm not kidding.)
Actually 71.88 euros in Germany! Still cheaper that US even with conversion rateWhy is Prime so expensive in the US compared to Europe (49€)?
