For those who complain about Google, FB, but still have an Amazon account, to the point of paying for Prime... hypocrisy. I know AWS is responsible for most of the web too so you can't avoid them entirely, but these companies are all the same. I'm personally working to get rid of similar services like PayPal since they're no better.

Yes, companies should be able to make a profit so they can carry on existing, thats a given BUT there is a huge huge difference between making enough profit to cary on existing and making enough profit so they can be greedy. Amazon is being 100% greedy. Amazon could easily fund any price rises it faces due to economic instability and still end up being in profit but they and like with many others, they would rather get their customers to fund any price rises than for the company to use any of it's profits. There is profit and then there is greedy profit. A huge majority of the worlds businesses go for greedy profit and the muggins customers allow them to do it. 'Vote with your wallet' comes the cries and you know what, it never happens.
Greedy profit? What does that even mean? Profit is profit, in Amazon’s case it mean they are giving a service that a whole lot of people are using. The tax policy is a different discussion. If people choose not to vote with their wallets, your choice to insult them says more about you than them.

...do you still want your Amazon driver being treated like slave labor and pissing in a bottle in between stops?
We definitely want more money in the driver's pockets! With the 21% YoY profit increase reported by Amazon yesterday, I'd ask why they're not simply putting that incremental $50B into their driver's pockets? And with growth percentages that astronomical, they actually could be putting money back into their customers pockets too!

Hmm if this comes to UK i'll cancel - I mean I only care about the fast delivery but really there shouldn't be a 'prime' charge for this as Amazon prices are rarely competitive especially things in the grocery category the markup is extortionate. Prime Video is utter trash it's up their with Apple TV + for being rubbish but at least Apple TV + is improving where as Prime Video seems to be getting worse.

Also there's the fact that Jeff Benzos is a right *%&$!

They make so much and don't pay drivers enough, along with all the other unethical stuff they get up to.

@Mods please delete this I don't know how i've quoted myself but can't seem to delete it!

Looks like this is the push I needed to part ways with Amazon. Like many others, I don’t use their streaming services and only had Prime for the shipping, and I don’t mind waiting a couple of days longer to get the packages if that means I save $140 a year and stop helping Bezos buy another yacht-with-a-yacht that he needs to dismantle a historic bridge for by exploiting his workers.

I literally only have Prime for fast and "free" delivery and I'm sure I'm not alone in that.
If this is the case, consider that you could have 2 deliveries per month for items under $25 and pay $5.50 shipping for each and STILL come out ahead.

I’ve never actually paid for a Prime membership - I just keep taking advantage of the free trials ?

Until you all vote with your wallets, it’s not going to change. I dropped Prime over three years ago and never looked back. Most of what they list is crap anyway, and I can often find better prices even including shipping.
This is a good idea. I want to add to do your best to find local small-business sources for you needs.

That is, don’t replace one big box store with another one. ie don’t replace Amazon with Walmart.

This is going to be replicated across many industries across the world because companies are not going to be prepared to take a hit on their profits. Any rises for the company, be it rent, utility costs, taxes, insurance, employee wage increases will all be paid for by the customer in the form of increases in the cost of the service that it provided to them. Amazon will increase their prices to their customers but you can be damn sure that when they are to produce their yearly figures it will show they did not take any hits on their profits.
Do you expect them to want to take hits? This is the fallacy of taxing the "big corporations" which just become taxes on the consumer.

Firstly lay off with the insult accusation because i made no such thing and if you think what I said constitues an insult then that say's more about you than me.

As for the profit, no, there are different level of profits. If all it takes for a company to survive and keep on surviving is to make $1 million in profit a year then why would that company need to make $11 million profit a year if all it takes to keep on surviving basically paying staff wages, paying ground rent, utility bills, taxes, distribution costs, shipping costs is $1 million a year in profit, which also means having extra to put away in the bank, then why need $11 million or even more.

Amazon does not need the hefty billions in profits it makes to keep on doing what it is doing, only a few billion will do to keep it going year in year out but no, they have to make as much money as they possibly can even though they do not need to. It does not matter how you look at it, it's greed at the end of the day.

poor jeff bezos needs to fund the dismantling of a dutch bridge so his yacht can get through.

i'm happy to pay more in order to help jeff and his yacht get through safely!!

go **** yourself amazon.
Pittsburgh, PA knows how to destroy bridges on the cheap.

The secret is when someone suggests a $1.5 million renovation of the bridge, ignore it.

Then when the bridge collapses, tell the public that a trillion dollar infrastructure bill is needed to fix it.

What is greedy profit? Who is the master overlord that dictates the gross margins on sales of goods? What is the universe of "the muggins customers" that allow them to do it. Is that comparable to the apple fans that enable apples monopolistic practices and sky-high prices?

Amazon is becoming a dumpster fire. At this point the MAIN draw for me is that every time I buy something online from anyone other than amazon I get flooded with spam email. I had to make a 2nd email account just to buy stuff which sucks. That and I will not use anything other than apple pay / paypal unless I REALLY trust the vendor.

On the other hand...

* Amazon has zero quality control and even less accountability, returns are a pain and fake products are everywhere.

* Not all that thrilled about financially supporting them taking over even more businesses. It makes me cringe every time I hear amazon absorbed another company.

Stopped Prime at the last price increase and it was one of the best things I ever did.

It broke the Amazon addiction and I maybe buy 10 things a year there now .... and things arrive when they arrive.... and life is fine.

If you're up for it - do yourselves a favor.
Cancel Prime and give it a good honest run of time and I suspect you'll be better off in the long run.

It'd honestly be better for society as a whole if we spread out our shopping dollars away from this company at this point.

If everyone that has a membership with Amazon, Netflix and any other company that are increasing their prices and cancel all their services. Price increase will stop..

Interesting you mention that..
I found the same thing to be true.

When Amazon has you hooked, you mentally sort of always feel like you must be getting some great deal because "it's Amazon! Of course!"

Turns out -- their prices are routinely not the best, and sometimes pretty much just "bad" relative to a host of other options, many of which are local and I just go grab the product and not make some massive carbon footprint shipping and delivering it all over the place.

I cancelled my Amazon Prime membership about 6 months ago and have not missed it one bit. I originally used Prime for 2-day delivery but after the pandemic started, at least in the somewhat remote area I live in, 95% of deliveries were taking 10-12 days. I finally realized what am I paying $119 a year for?

I cancelled and have not missed it at all. There is no way I would pay $139 a year either.
