It's not really surprising

Pull out AWS and the one time Rivian stuff from the latest results and it's a grim picture for just the Amazon retail situation.

no one likes paying extra. but an increase after 4 years of status quo is reasonable. but w/google apps going full pay mode and netflix and amazon both charging more, itʻs all hitting us at once...thatʻs what stinks

What annoys me is that every time I attempt to purchase anything through Amazon, I'm told Prime will automatically include me as a member (a "trial" member of course). I always click No as I do not wish to "join" Prime but I have still been roped in despite explicitly rejecting it several times. I then have to go through various hoops to leave Prime. Amazon is not less expensive and does not deliver any faster than other providers. Its Prime membership options are unappealing and overpriced. Avoid, just as I have for quite some time.

You haven’t quite got the point of capitalism yet by the sounds.
When the rich profit more while their workers suffer and instead of easing the suffering, they raise prices... that's when capitalism is in jeopardy and revolutions are planned. If people want to avoid Communism, they should embrace some democratic socialism before the guillotines are built.

Bezos 500 Million Dollar Yacht does not pay itself!
The super yacht is probably paid for. This is probably for dismantling the historic bridge because they ****ing built the stupid boat where it couldn't go out to sea (they can't be that stupid so I am going to assume this is intentional and Bezos paid every dutch official to make this happen).

Lets all cancel our prime membership and use that money to crowdfund to purchase an Exocet Missile. I'm pretty sure it only takes one, the Brits can voice for its effectiveness in 1982.

I'll probably cancel Prime when renewal comes up. Only way I'd keep it is if the additional pricing went directly to warehouse and delivery workers.

Sadly, even if they said that was the case, I'd demand proof. If I'm spending my well-earned cash, I want it going to people who actually need it. Not the greedy @$$holes who think they run the world. (Newsflash: they don't, and they should be scared.)

are they making whole foods delivery free with prime?
Not that I am aware of.
They are trying to charge me essentially the price of the tube of wasabi itself just to "ship it to store", while the Whole Foods is only 3 miles from my home.
Sadly, they don't even carry the darn thing in the store.

They cite the cost of the NFL contract in part. They should have made that an add-on subscription, but instead everybody has to pay for it whether you watch pro football or not.
They can cite whatever they want. This is simply about them charging more money because they can, and people will pay it. Nothing more.

Any absolutist ideology pushed by a single viewpoint is an end game where there are piles of bodies as quite frankly some people are always more equal than others...

Actually the complete incompatibility of Amazon's business model with Europe might be its downfall at the end of the day. You can take a European (me included in that) to water but you can't make him drink. There's a huge amount of cynicism towards their practices I hear almost every day. Amazon also can't expand perpetually in the US due to market saturation risk and their entire operating model, which is pretty much low ball logistics, is fragile because it's replaceable trivially.

Lets not even get to AWS which is a monster **** show beyond all comprehension. The whole thing is sticky tape and string behind the scenes.

We’ll I’m probably going to cancel my subscription which I had since prime was introduced. I’m ordering a lot less and it’s just not justifying anymore. Also I don’t use any other services, except video. But video also only like 1 a month.

If business' would change their model to include delivery costs, Amazon would "take on water" so to say!

Might have to let Prime go. Seems like more order on a Monday and get Thursday. You used to could pay a couple of bucks and get next day shipping.
Prime Video doesn't really have good original shows. Amazon Music that is included is ok but I can stream free stuff with ads off other services so no big lost there. The only real good perk is Amazon photos allows unlimited photo storage but that may have changed
Amazon needs tier their service. One for shipping only, another for shipping and videos and then the everything package.
Unlimited full-resolution photos is the only service we can’t replace at a lower cost. So we pay for Prime and take advantage of the other included services. The free music tier is good enough to not need to subscribe to any of the big services, Prime video is good enough to avoid the big services, and we live close enough to Boston that Prime delivery is usually next day and occasionally we get same day delivery.

We have about 13GB in our Prime photos, so I suppose we could switch to Google photos, but their limit is 15GB so we may end up passing that and needing to pay anyway. And when we last checked (back in the $99 Prime days) Google resizes photos to a lower resolution.

It isn’t Bezos' problem… it’s the shipyard's problem. No delivery to Bezos, no payment for the yacht and they likely have to return whatever hes already paid up front for breach of contract.

Corporate greed, no need to increase, look at their books Billions……….

So, does this mean that companies like Amazon, Apple and others that make billions should never raise prices even if supply, demand, cost increases, inflation, etc. may warrant it?

This is the first Amazon Prime membership increase in about four years. I don't know where this year's inflation numbers will come in (they're high right now) but $139 should be relatively close to what $119 was four years ago when adjusting for inflation.

But but but it’s so much easier to demonize “the rich”. Mind you, I can’t stand the guy, but you are spot on.

“Democratic Socialism” is a farce. It’s a front to make people believe they are voting for, and therefore have control over centralized control. In the statement is the contradiction. It’s the loss of control by the people that has fostered the environment for what you describe. The most recent example is the picking of winners and losers during the pandemic lockdowns. Big players (with lobbyists) got to remain open while the smaller shops were forced to close. Do you really think that gets better by consolidating power more?
