They cite the cost of the NFL contract in part. They should have made that an add-on subscription, but instead everybody has to pay for it whether you watch pro football or not.
I was confused to which games where even on Prime...so I just watched all of the games free on the NFL app and the Yahoo Sports app.

Besides, how else is 'Daddy' gonna pay for his space trips?

It is a pretty good business model. Hoist useless services on me so I'm forced to pay for the whole set rather than paying a reduced price for the one that I actually want.

"Well I'm sorry electricity costs so much! But you're also getting amazing benefits like real time skunk tracking, a monthly credit to promote your favorite local retailer on AM radio for eight seconds, shoe shining at any of our one convenient locations, access to our extensive basement VHS collection, and so much more!"

Sometimes you just want electricity.
“Forced to pay”?? Lmao nobody is forcing you to pay anything at all. If you do not like it, you can simply give another company your business. What Amazon offers is not anything unique, there’s tons of alternative options.
But I understand, some people just have to play victim and complain about everything. Can’t please everyone

There is always inflation. which is why it was increased in 2014, 2018 and now 2022. No reason to expect another increase prior to 2026 based on this pattern. Can they? Sure? But do I expect them to? No.

As for the profit [] there are different level of profits
Putting this into perspective, Amazon grabbed $46B in profit per their report yesterday. Shave 1% off that 46B and put it directly into their driver's pockets -- their drivers are now making 17% more wages. Or they could put some of that back in the customer's pockets. There are indeed different levels of profiteering and Bezos is the worst. Fact.

I did not know about that NFL contract & it is ridiculous that everyone pays when it definitely should be an addon like HBO or any of the others.

I would pay extra to ensure no sports related content of any kind ever showed up in my Prime video feed.

Amazon did not have $46 billion in profits. Net income was $33.364 billion for the year and $14.323 billion for the quarter. And as I mentioned earlier, most of that is coming from AWS, not retail operations.

If you look at their retail segment, their profit was signifcantly less... $6.347 billion for 2021 and a loss of $1.833 billion for the 4th quarter.

The worst? ? Apple's 2021 profit grew 64.92% to $94.680 billion compared to Amazon's 56.4% increase to $33.364 billion. Apple's profit and operating margins much much higher than Amazon's single digit margins.

ok... and after that jump in inflation in 2021 they still only increased it the same $20 they did the prior times. So once again still no reason to expect an increase before 2026.
You think inflation is going to return to 2014-2020 levels?

Nor does dismantling the bridge to get it out to sea:

Yes let's tax the rich to pay for more useless bureaucrat salaries and military spending. How about having them give a certain percentage straight to charities or solving the homelessness issue that has become absolutely insane in major cities like LA and SF?

So their net profits jumped 57% to $33 billion but they have to charge customers more to increase salaries, if this comes to the UK I'll cancel my membership.
Prime stopped making sense in the US a long time ago when retailers started offering free shipping. Heck, Walmart will often deliver my stuff the same day for free AND they’re cheaper for a lot of things. If you’re hooked on a ton of prime videos, that’s one thing, but I rarely watch TV shows and I don’t know too many people who would pay for prime over netflix.

I split prime with my partner so it equals out to $5.40 a month with the increase. Worth it for us.

Yeah that's a good point that Apple operates on higher margins. Can't fully correlate margin with corporate greed...although that would be interesting data to see ;) I see Apple as the one tech giant who still "relatively" cares about customer privacy and isn't haphazardly stepping into/stepping on other industries. If Amazon has the resources for all that nonsense, they can unpad some of that margin.. just sayin. Then again, apple could too!

Amazon is becoming a dumpster fire. At this point the MAIN draw for me is that every time I buy something online from anyone other than amazon I get flooded with spam email. I had to make a 2nd email account just to buy stuff which sucks. That and I will not use anything other than apple pay / paypal unless I REALLY trust the vendor.

I have three or four alternate email addresses I use depending on how likely I figure the spam might be, and really ony monitor the one I use with the vendors I do want to hear from.

I also never give my primary email to anyone but friends/family. Been doing that for many years.

* Amazon has zero quality control and even less accountability, returns are a pain and fake products are everywhere.

How so? Around here I can drop off the return at the nearby UPS store or the Amazon stand within Kohls department store. Show them the return QR code on my phone and get a drop-off receipt.

Yeah same. Service has gone down the toilet in the UK as well. It’s a 50% hit rate on deliveries being on time and The Expanse has finished now.

Also Bezos is a **** ?
Still pretty good where I am. I think it’s been over a year since I had a delayed package form Amazon. I regularly get same days deliveries too.

Not sure about anyone else but I haven't had a package delivered in much less than a week since I don't even remember when. A robot vacuum to replace our dead Roomba got lost Wednesday and Amazon offered to replace with a new delivery date of 18Feb. No thanks: just refund my purchase. By 18Feb I'll be walking on a carpet of cat hair.

Got the same deal from Walmart.com (without having to 'clip a coupon') and the new one arrived about an hour ago (18 hours from order to door).

I think I might feel differently if I lived in some far corner of the US but we are in Manhattan. I get faster deliveries to our place in Puerto Rico!

I'll save my $140 this year and let Amazon keep delivering 36 pounds of cat litter and 15 pounds of cat food every 2 months for free...

An Amazon Prime subscription includes "free" one-day shipping on purchases made on Amazon,

The rich giving to charities isn't going to pay for the Fern Hollow Bridge that just collapsed. But taxing them will.

I do agree with where you're aiming, though.

Well, all you need to do is factor how many items you get shipped and if the shipping fees you'd pay are more than the prime subscription or less.

If you order a lot it is still cheaper to have prime, otherwise, you can save some bucks, but then you have to ask yourself if waiting more for the package is worth that much.

For me, I rarely order on Amazon nowadays, so no prime for me, I can wait a couple of days for the item.
Orders over $25 in the US ship free anyway. So, if I pool a few items together it doesn't take much to hit the magical $25 mark. And now that delivery times are 5+ days on every single order (since the middle of the pandemic) I'm not saving any time with the lie that is "2 day shipping".
