cant blame em...does apple sell androids?

Not even remotely similar. Amazon is basically an online mall so for them to discontinue carrying products that compete with it should be investigated for being slightly monopolistic.

What if Amazon started making, for example, a better BBQ grill, will they stop selling Weber, Char-Broil, Kenmore or Kingsford grills to cut out the competition?

I don't think this is a good move by Amazon.

The real victims here are the lawyers, their phones are blowing up right now.

Amazon might unlock the wrath of Apple AND Google. Remember, it's not just the ATV they are going to ban everyone from selling.

It's kinda funny how they will ban the Apple TV but have no problem with 3rd parties selling things like swastika shoes.

Considering there is going to be a tvOS with an SDK, why don't they just build themselves an app? In the case of Prime Video (like any music/video streaming service), you want it to be in as many places as possible. Amazon wants Apple TV users to be able to get value out of (and pay for) Prime.

The only reason Amazon makes their devices at all is by and large to extend low-cost access and availability of their book/music/video products.

This is hilarious because amazon is shooting themselves in the foot. They are more or less an online retailer like a retail walmart, they have thousands of different products. This puts them in a different market then say Apple who basically makes all their own products for their retail stores and then tosses in a few they deem worthy that others make. Amazon should just make an application that works with all platforms and still sell other products, competition or not they still have customers coming to their website looking for different ventures. If a customer can't get it from them because they decided not to sell it any further they'll go else where. Frankly if I was amazon I would want to sell AppleTV, then under cut it by selling your device cheaper and advertise that on your own website!

Why not just make an app for it so it becomes compatible. I'm sure they are trying to pressure apple into making them add them as a default app, but I don't see them being a big enough source of sales for apple for that to work.

Amazon.com is a marketplace: a place where companies and individuals sell their products.

The fact they have a video streaming service now has nothing to do with their marketplace side. Soon they may stop selling iPads and iPhones, and who knows what else...
That's what happens when a company tries to cover many markets; suddenly everyone else becomes competition.

I foresee either a class action lawsuit or several vendors abandoning Amazon and moving to either eBay, Jet or any other marketplace sites.

Are they also not selling smartTVs that don't support Prime Video? Not selling phones that don't support Prime Video? Not selling BR-Players that don't support Prime Video? Not selling DVRs that don't support Prime Video?

Seems this is targeted specifically at Apple and Google. It's a sign of fear - Amazon fears Apple and Google and sees their offerings as a legitimate threat.

Gutsy move. I wonder how this will play out

When Google and Apple possibly drop the Kindle App from their respective stores, along with the other, what, 5 or so Amazon apps out there....you might see a reversal. Time will tell.

If they retaliate by dropping the Kindle App, that will sting.

Edit: I don't see that happening though. In any event I think if the other two start to retailiate you'll see this whole trend magically reverse itself as fast as it happened.

This is abusive. Amazon will lose a lot of very loyal Apple customers as a result of this. I know I'll never buy another thing from Amazon now they've decided to try and hurt sales of the Apple TV. I hope hundreds of millions of other people take a similar stand.

Not just users, but vendors as well.
Amazon is supposed to be the largest online marketplace.
If I was a vendor, I wouldn't want to sell my products on one marketplace and then sell other 'banned' products on another marketplace. It's a lot of extra work to maintain two sites if I'm not already doing it.

Why not get your service on as many products as possible Amazon? Like the Netflix is everywhere.

Call me crazy..
Yeah. I think this was a very short sighted move overall. Especially coming from Amazon, they have mostly "played nice" with the competition up until now.....at least in terms of cross platform offerings. This is pretty blatant.

"Continue to be incompatible?" I airplayed Orphan Black from my iPhone last month using the Prime Video app. Are you saying that I would not be able to airplay the app to the next version of Apple TV?

Unless this was sarcasm this is just blatant fanboi'ism that makes Apple people seem mentally unstable. Apple TV has been around for a long long time and has not "usered in a new era" of tv.
Chill dude! Can't you respect a forum user's personal opinion and hopes?

Actually, your own reaction is revealing that you may be mentally unstable and filled with hate towards people who like stuff you don't like. Better get help from a shrink soon.

Wow, you guys really don't get it. Apple (and apparently Google) threw the first punches. Amazon probably has sales data that tells them they are the #1 seller of Chromecast devices, and the #2 seller of Apple TV boxes. They've probably submitted apps and channels to Apple and Google multiple times over the last couple of years, and been rejected or delayed or ignored often enough that they've decided to respond. Apple TV is an also-ran at this point, and if they want to be the market leader, they have to support all of the biggest content providers.

This is a mistake that will likely play out poorly for Amazon in the future. They are blatantly engaging in anti-competitive behavior.

Hundreds of millions? You dramatically overestimate the number of Apple TVs sold.

As of March 2015, over 8 years after the first Apple TV was released, Apple had only sold 25 M:

Further, most people aren't fanboys who care that much. I would guess fewer than 100 people worldwide will care so much about Amazon making this move so as to boycott Amazon. You will be one of those 100 - there might be as many as 99 others like you in the world.

I have a tendency to boycott companies over moves like this, and I don't care enough to do it. It's not like Apple is selling the Fire TV on their store - why should Amazon be expected to sell the Apple TV on their store?

OK, you guys have some real reading comprehension issues. Amazon wants Prime Video on the Chromecast and Apple TV. Google and Apple are blocking them, not the other way around.
